S-Bend at Easter
Submitted by Versus on Fri, 2013-03-08 17:27Gonna head up for the easter weekend, have never been in there, imagine it will be friggin busy like everywhere else. Will trawl through the search function in the next couple weeks, but just wanting any general tips or advice for where to go etc. Will be landbased with a Prado (the soccer-mum's 4x4 of choice). I'm thinking I'll try for Tailor and Mulla off the beach, have heard of snapper and Dhuis off the rocks?
Also if anyone else will be up there and wants to have a beer or fish then drop us a pm.
cheers

Submitted by WSHN4FSHN on Fri, 2013-03-08 12:15Hi guys I'm wanting to buy some herring and Gardies (bigger than penci)l for bait on a trip I'm leaving on tomorrow and was wondering if anyone is going out tonight and may get some extras. I'm willing to pay a bit towards them. I know I can buy them anywhere but I thought some kids might like some extra cash and have fun at the same time. PM me if anyone is interested. Prefer NOR. New Yakker
Submitted by PT on Fri, 2013-03-08 10:22Hey fellas, i've been keen to get into yak fishing for a while and I just picked up myself a lifetime angler 3 fishing kayak off gumtree (205kg carrying capacity, 2 seats)
Im new to this whole kayaking business but pretty damn keen and i was hoping for a bit of advice. I've done some river fishing with pretty slim pickings and im hoping to take it out into the ocean.
Can anyone tell me some good beginner spots in the ocean to paddle out from? Just somewhere where myself and maybe a mate can paddle out without having to worry about getting smashed the hell up by waves haha. I'm keen to catch anything, as long as there are plenty biting (except blowies) - its hard to get my mates or girlfiend into fishing when you float around for an hour without catching a thing haha
Anyway, much appreciated fellas.
Paul

Rod for Stickbaits
Submitted by CityFlicker on Thu, 2013-03-07 17:45I'm after recommendations on a new rod for throwing stickbaits & minnows in the 10-25 gram range at tailor & salmon as my current lure rod is too heavy for this job. It is to be matched up with a 4000 or 5000 Stradic & I'd prefer a rod over 8ft long to help with casting distance & working the lures. Budget is $150-$180. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Fisher fined $25,000 for abalone haul
Submitted by claymore on Thu, 2013-03-07 14:49A Girrawheen man has been fined more than $25,000 for illegally harvesting 326 abalones off Ocean Reef last
As part of a Fisheries WA operation, Duy Cam Dao, 46, was under surveillance as part of a Fisheries WA operation at Ocean Reef beach on December 11.
Fisheries officers later apprehended him and found the massive haul in his backpack, including 13 undersize abalones.
Mr Dao was already banned from abalone fishing at the time of the offence and he harvested them during a prohibited period.
He appeared before Joondalup Magistrate's Court on Friday, where a judge handed down an $8000 fine for breaching the original 2007 court-imposed ban, $8600 for fishing during a prohibited period, $7200 for exceeding the bag limit and $1100 for the undersize abalone.
He was also issued a court order that banned him from being in possession of abalone.
Fisheries compliance manager Phil Shaw said it was a good result for the operation, which started in August 2012 in response to information from the public.
“The purpose of the operation was to identify people actively involved in either the illegal take or the illegal distribution of abalone in the metropolitan area,” he said.

Exmouth Yardie creek crossing and beach track
Submitted by schanmala on Thu, 2013-03-07 14:04Hi Guys,
What are the beach track conditions south of yardie creek?
I'm looking to take a small trailer down the beach to One K Camp or Boat Harbor.
The DEC site says you are able to launch small boats of the beach (so assume its hardish) but I'm more worried about going through the tracks to get to the camp sites.
We are heading up there soon.
Also would cyclone Rusty have made the creek crossing harder?
I'll be checking with the visitor center first.
But any comments/advice appreciated.
Cheers,
Scott

Big baits worthwhile at guildford
Submitted by hillbilly2013 on Thu, 2013-03-07 13:06I fish the river from top to bottom every weekend, i'm out generally feeding them to get bigger, but occasionally i have a good win, i've been doing pretty well on black bream at guildford recently, and have heard rumours of tailor and mulloway getting up as far as garvey park, just wondering if it would be worth putting a bigger bait in the channel up around guildford bridge to see what happens, couldn't be a bad idea, surely

Oil rig exclusion areas
Submitted by Gav475 on Thu, 2013-03-07 08:17Heading up to Exmouth in June and have struggled to find decent bottom fish the last 2 trips with the boat, still trying to get the " local knowledge ". Was thinking of trying out near the rigs and was wondering what if any exclusion areas there are around the rigs. Have been to the Murions, Helby bank, Exmouth reef and targeted contour lines ect for not alot and have come to the conclusion I need to change my game plan. Any other general pointers would be great.

John Dory
Submitted by Super peg on Wed, 2013-03-06 15:32hello all,
during a recent fishing trip with the family, the topic of the ones that got away arose,
my cousion and uncle mentioned a few years ago they caught a large round thing with a black spot and enlongated spines on the dorsal fins, Large head and mouth etc etc, not knowing at the time they released a nice size John Dory and only after they got back home and researched did they realise their folly.
around a year ago i visited the underwater observatory at the end of the busso jetty and was shocked to spot one lazily cruising a sand bed.
ive read these fish are one of the best of the best eating fish in the ocean, but never hear of any one chasing them
so my question here is has anyone caught one and could you release some insight into the targeting of these elusive fish?
light searching of the web and few fishing books mention a live whiting fished near the bottom...
