Red Emperor off Cape Nat!!
Submitted by Habanero on Sun, 2013-03-03 12:54Got word that a Red was taken off Cape Nat yesterday , will post a pic if/when I get one , must have been 6 years ago one was taken at Naturaliste Reef . The other unusual species making a show off the Duns Beaches is Giant Herring , with quite a few being landed in the past fortnight , mainly by people throwing light surface lures ....

Snelled hooks on a paternoster rig
Submitted by AlwaysFishin on Sun, 2013-03-03 03:02I'm keen to try snelling hooks on the dropper loops of a paternoster rig but unsure exactly how to go about it. I'm thinking of snelling two hooks together, then trimming the excess line off so I'm just left with one hook snelled to the other, then connect the snelled hooks to the paternoster dropper loop as you would normally. I'm just not sure if that's the right way of doing it. Does anyone else do this that can shed some light for me?

Salmon Fishing 2013
Submitted by Jac54 on Sat, 2013-03-02 00:22How is the Salmon Fishing season shaping up around Dunsborough way this year? The last 2 years have been very poor due to the Ocean currents being so warm.
Does anyone have any future predictions for the Ocean current temperature around April this year or is it going to be another fizzer?

Hillarys Marina Boat show
Submitted by diver on Fri, 2013-03-01 19:40Just to advise you all who may be going out from the Hillarys marina on the weekend of the 17th March,The BIA (boating industry Of Australia) are haveing their show, that is great ,except ,the car& trailer
Will be closed off By 40%,that means that of the 247 trailer bays there will be a lot less access for those who want to go out. Please contact the manager if you have any concernse, his details are as follows:
He said that we,the trailer boat users can park our cars/trailers in the oerflow park situated in the North eastern side of the launching ramps.Thois is ok but if you are a lone fisherman/boat user, you will have too,:launch you'r boat, make it fast to the end of the jetty, take you'r car & find a parking area,,possible some few minutes walk away, and mapart from annoying some people by not moving you'r boat quickly ,you could find someone has stollen a rod or two, lets face it,some people do take what is not theirs, while you are gone, not just when you go out,but also when you return. If,as I suspect, many of you are to appathetick to do anything or just do not care,Fine, but other wise phone Chriss up and voice you'r concerns, after all,Hillarys was built for the trailer boat person and apart from Ocean Reef & Quinns is all we have in the Northern suburbs, but down the other side of the Swan river, there is Cockbourn,A lovely ramp, the Two at Rockingham, basic but usable, then another at point Peron, another lovely ramp.I think the only reason we have just the one good one with all of 247 bays that we must share with the cars that the people go to the commercial shops from,is that the goverment treat us with the contempt we seem to diserve> just my views but I hope othrs will read this and add thier own. After all,its not that we are not paying a lot of money for our weekend of pleasure.:Boat Rego,Trailer rego,Fuel tax,(meant for roads) then the fees for launching & parking, the serviceing of motors, the bait, safety gear,Oh shit,I think some of you must earn far to much money and simply do not give a stuff.Diver.

Macks and tuna
Submitted by Justo82 on Fri, 2013-03-01 15:56Hi folks,
ive just had my first shot at rigging up my own lures. I've got some richter jelly babes that I rigged up with 50lb line and some good 3/0 hooks. Double crimped so should hold well.
Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone has some pointers. I've never specifically targeted Tuna before, and I'm hoping to get my 1st this weekend. I will be launching from hillarys and generally head to the NE side of rotto. I don't intend to head out further than that (this is where I do my shark fishing and bottom bouncing).
Question is, am I best off trolling around the 3 mile, or heading towards rotto? Should I be looking for working birds or bottom structure? Perhaps both? I will also chuck out a mackie lure or 2 in the spread, will they work together, or are the trolling speeds for both types of lure too different.
i don't want anyone's specific spots (but if you're feeling generous I may as well), but any help or guidance is greatly appreciated.

Marlin Fishing in November
Submitted by MTKC on Fri, 2013-03-01 09:50Hi everyone,
Just wondering where the best place in Australia would be to catch a marlin in November/December (have heard Rowley Shoals is a good bet)? - am hoping to surprise the other half with a few days chase for his birthday.
Any info on decent, not break the bank charters would also be appreciated, we do have our own boat but we're in Perth so taking it to QLD etc isn't really an option.
Thanks

Downrigger / Electric reels
Submitted by Betz on Fri, 2013-03-01 09:09Hi all,
I am considering investing in a downrigger for better coverage when trolling and it occured to me that it might be possible to use an electric reel and bent but rod with a downrigger bomb as an occational downrigging system.
Has anyone tried this? Would it work?
The expense of both a downrigger and an electric reel is a bit much for how much I would use them so just tryig to save a few bucks and have both options available.

lock up your trailer
Submitted by spook on Thu, 2013-02-28 21:30Just a reminder, had a bloke at ocean reef a couple of weeks ago that had come back from an over-nighter at rotto in his 6.5-7m glass boat to find his trailer stolen off his car. What a bloody nightmare, it was a sunday too. I couldn't think of much worse coming back to a busy ramp with the Mrs to find that. I'll be padlocking mine to the car for even a long day out now, I really don't want that experience...There really is some real shit blokes out there.
