Worth a watch - how to catch a Tarpon 'like a boss'
Submitted by dkonig82 on Mon, 2013-02-18 18:01Apologies if this is a re-post, but worth a look.
Not sure if the blood on his arm is because he tried this before and failed or if he is using it as burley!

Fishing the Narrows
Submitted by Sixapeal on Mon, 2013-02-18 15:06So ive decided to try my luck at the narrows.. ive never fished
there so should be fun. What bait do people use, im thinking
river prawns and maybe give a bag of mulies a try? I will take
a few lures and heard the twisties are a hit. I will soak a big bait
see if i can get a hit or two. Id also be chasing tailor, bream or
flathead..
Im guessing you fish from the south side im just not sure if
you setup from under the bridge to the left or right? i notice on
google maps there is a little beach type area..
Thanks again guys

Shitties
Submitted by Sea Raider on Mon, 2013-02-18 13:16Better known as the Trumpeter.
Sorry, but I was bought up in South Oz where these little beauties were refered to as Shitties and I refuse to change that.
Does anybody know of a way to reduce the accidental hookup of these little darlings while you're fishing for Whiting?
I fished Geographe Bay on Saturday and while I ended up with 12 KGW, I counted the Shitties and actually caught 42 of them to get my 12 whiting, very frustrating.
Thanks in advance

Crabs and Bream
Submitted by Cruise Control on Mon, 2013-02-18 12:21Plenty of crabs and Black Bream down Mandurah way. Went down with the wife and daughter on saturday to spend the night with friends on the canals.
Arrived at 3.30, on the boat at 4.00 and bagged out on crabs by 5.30. Heaps of smallish ones with some bigguns amongst them. Trolled back to the canals picking up some fresh tailor for bait. After a feed of fresh crabs which were packed tight with meat and a couple or four coldies we retired to the waters edge and proceeded to try for black bream. A couple of rats at first and then the bigger fish came in.
Busted off twice before landing this guy. I'm not usually a bream fisher but pretty happy with a healthy one this size. Easily the biggest I've ever landed. Measured him at 38cm before release.

New Rig and Direction Bank
Submitted by baders on Mon, 2013-02-18 11:47Well, finally getting the time to put into the tub lately after getting away from FIFO. She is a South Carolina built Scout 187 with DF140 pushing her to some good numbers ;) Have done a few shakedown trips now and as I'm originally right hand coaster, have been learning about the north metro reef areas too. I'd like to venture out to Direction Bank at some stage but would prefer company of other vessels to do this for safety reasons. Is anyone planning such a trip in the near future ? I put in at Mindarie but could go elsewhere.
Cheers
Paul.
fishing steep point out of a tinnie
Submitted by dan80 on Mon, 2013-02-18 03:34Hi all,
Just looking for a bit of advice if anyone's keen to help out.
With the old man get a bit long in the tooth we made the decision to tow a couple of 4.5m tinnies up to the point instead of running around cliffs all day, I'm wondering if anyone can give me some advice on area's that they may have fished before? Or any general info would be awsome.
Thanks heaps

The search for new spots and a monster blue.
Submitted by Chris fish on Sun, 2013-02-17 20:37 Went on another adventure with 2 mates this weekend to another remote piece of coast after some blues, kingys or boarfish on top of our wish list. Finished work on Friday and drove 2 hours out to our spot and set up camp for the night. Woke up nice and early and jumped in the wetsuits for a morning dive. Did very well with 5 queenys up to 95cm, 2 grouper up to 17kg and a nice boarfish and fox fish to top it off with some ok vis in mostly 14-18m of water off the rocks with a few deeper ledges. Had a spear pull on a nice blue right on the bottom in 22m and bent my spear a bit but we still got plenty. Went for an arvo dive and came face to face with a 30kg+ blue in a cave but couldn't get a good shot on it before it took off and the water had started to get dirty so we headed home early.

Woke up late today and went to have a look at another new spot, not many fish around just a few blues and little queenys until we found some lumps out deeper that my mate got a 90cm queeny off and I went a bit deeper and was looking at a big black shape right on the bottom in the sand on the edge of my vis, ended up being a 25kg blue and my first monster from my deepest dive of 25m!!! So happy with it, only wanted one big one so no more for me I'll stick to the little ones from now on. No more diving for a few weeks for me and a good way to finish off my spear that is now looking more like a U shape than a straight piece of steel haha

Fishing rod advice
Submitted by artygunner on Sun, 2013-02-17 13:32Hi Everyone,
I have saved some pennies and am going to purchase a decent rod. I want something that can handle 3-5kg line. It is most important that the rodis not too rigid, I still want to be able to feel the whole fight of the fish. The action of the rod is very important to me.
I will spend up to $350 which I think should be enough for something pretty special.
Any recommendations are welcome.
Thanks,
Ryan

Gopro3
Submitted by fisharoo on Fri, 2013-02-15 18:18Hi fellas, gonna buy a gopro. I was set on the new one black Ed as I haven't owned one before. Went to one of the retailers and he mentioned that the gopro2 is still best for value as I can get heaps of accessories for the same price, and also the gopro 3 had heaps of bugs. Wasn't sure if he was just trying to sell his old stock, but went home and searched the net and found that gopro 3 had heaps of problems unlike the 2.
Seems afew of you fishos have the new 3, I want to know if any of the problems I read about is true( most in America and also bought last year),or is the gopro2 better than the 3?
Cheers fellas.
