Newby saying hello
Submitted by pigdaddy on Thu, 2012-07-26 17:12Hi everyone!.
Just wanted to introduce myself as a new member to the fishwrecked family, names Jason and apart from the odd bit of freshwater and beach fishing I haven't really gone beyond that. However thanks to a bloke I work with I now have a serious bug of fishing & camping in me that I'm more than happy to indulge.
I found this site trolling (pun intended) google for fishing info, especially for WA (live in perth) and seeing some of the pic's on here has just inflamed me to get out with a big 12ft surfy and hit up some monsters, my first goal is to hit up Exmouth for some GT's and my favourite the mighty Mully. Any advice/tidbits or other info no matter how useless you may think will be taken in greatly (I've already been busted reading this site at work a few times lol). I'm thoroughly enjoying reading all the stories and now also watching/reading 'Reeltime" (bloody awesome so far!). I dont have any gear at the moment so I'm really looking to get suited up with some good but cheap stuff that'll lead me up in experience and skill to take on the big fish up north.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope to see you all around someday.

Great service at Oceanside.
Submitted by tantrum on Wed, 2012-07-25 22:43Today I swung by Oceanside tackle to grab a new rod and reel combo and was very impressed with the service I received and the deal done for me. Big thanks to Blake for setting my combo up for me and taking time out to teach me some new knots. I will be recommending Oceanside to my friends and colleagues and can't wait to put my Calcutta through its paces!

Submitted by the_dude84 on Wed, 2012-07-25 20:01Hitting warnbro sound for the first time in the tinny on sunday... was planning to launch at long point- just wondering if anyone has had their car broken into there? Will be heading out for a squiding session first then anchor up in deeper water and berley up and pray for a snapper/skippy to show up. Just wondering what depths are the best for squid at the moment (3-4m?) And what sort of depth should i anchor up in? (I have a basic sounder but its nothing special no gps) Thanks for any advice

IF ANYONE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT THESE ROD IT WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Winter Southern Bluefin in Perth?
Submitted by Camo.W on Wed, 2012-07-25 17:44Hi Guys,
Just wondering if anyone knows whether we get the same sort of run of SBT's like the east and south coasts in winter?
Ive caught a few smaller specimens in the warmer months, but wondering if it's worth a crack out deep on a calm winters day?

It's been soooo long... please help!
Submitted by Oracle on Wed, 2012-07-25 17:39Hi all,
Well at best guess, it's been probably about 6 months or so since I've had a fish around Perth and I have the day off tomorrow and the winds are being nice.
Just a basic question if anyone is willing to help. im heading off from Two rocks most likely, maybe Mindarie targeting the crappy but midday-ish tide change and just hoping someone could direct me in what is biting in what depths. Happy to search my own grounds but don't want to spend my whole day searching depths seeing my fishing days are getting tighter.
Cheers in advance

I was looking at possably a hds5 or a second hand hds7. Any opinions would be great.

Boat Fishing: Adelaide to Perth migration
Submitted by 6264matt on Wed, 2012-07-25 12:33Hi All,
This is my first post on your excellent forums, as my wife and I are moving over to Perth from Adelaide in a few months. Naturally I'm using the spare time I have to prepare for the move by researching the most important thing - Fishing. We are towing the boat over with us so will need to find out as much as possible about my favourite past time in this strange new land! :)
I have heard good things about boat fishing in Perth, and I am hoping to have those rumours confirmed! My wife and I are moving to Quinn's Rocks, which I understand is quite a ways north of most of the metro fishing.
I dont really know where to begin with my journey to finding excellent fishing spots, so I thought I'd query the experts here! Things I would love to hear about are:
- Fishing expecations from mindarie boat ramp, what species are about and what kind of areas are best to look out for and when. All my fishing knowledge is SA based, which I'm sure will need to be tweaked! My boat has about 60km round trip range.
- Fishing regulations, I have spent some time on fish.wa.gov.au reading the official brochures on bag limits, marine parks, the RFBL, etc. but is there anything else I should know that differs between SA and WA?
- Trailer/Boat registration and Operator licensing requirements. What do I need to do to convert everything over to WA registration?
- Anything else I should know!
Thanks in advance for all your input even if it is just pointing me into the right directions, I can't wait to get over there and start fishing!
Matt
PS> Attached is a picture of me with a double header of KG Whiting off the coast of Port Hughes on the Yorkes Peninsula. I'm hoping to start an even better WA photo album soon!

Who makes this rod ?
Submitted by cobia15 on Wed, 2012-07-25 00:27
Got this rod in karratha a few years ago at adventuresport. Cost about $700. It is an Xtreme SS and was made in USA. I have tried googling xtreme rods but every rod builder on the planet builds a xtreme modle aparently. It only has Xtreme SS and 30-50lb on the rod, no logos or model ect. Anyone know anything about these rods as i am selling it and i would like to provide some info to go with it.

In the Middle of Armadale??????????
Submitted by Travis Br on Tue, 2012-07-24 20:53Hey all,
Was riding home from school school today, got home and my brother pointed out that there was a dhuie laying on the side of the road(living 25kms away from the coast)?????
Could not believe what i was being told at first, but here she is -->
Its a pitty that such a size fish goes to waste along with another smaller fish :( , Aparently it had been sitting their for two days but if it were still on ice and the flesh still cold i would happily have taken it in to eat :D..
I think people really have to more considerate with the fish we have left!

2013 - Dreamteam comp?
Submitted by randall df223 on Tue, 2012-07-24 20:40I known this is a fishing forum! But who would be interested in participating in a "fishwrecked" (we can call it something else if that would upset the administrators of this site) dreamtream comp next year? we would need 18 teams to form a league of our own.

Submitted by Chris fish on Tue, 2012-07-24 19:00Been looking through a few of the state records and thought a few of my past catches would of been close to if not over the current record, mostly being sharks of various species just wondering if there is a way of weighing them without killing them or do you need to get a butcher ect with certified scales to weight them??

Currently planning a trip to Fiji for early 2014 and after some peoples experiences with companies/accomodation and overall experience.
Any personal feedback is greatly appreciated, if you feel its too negative and has the potential to deface brand please PM me as to keep this post smut free for admin sake.
Currently looking at packages that include 7 night accomodation with 4 or so days fishing. So far Bite Me Gamefishing kadavu look reasonable with the GT pandemonium package perfect for my needs.
Thanks in advance
Ps - i know ill need vast amounts of Poppers, stickbaits and jigs.

Tailor fishing
Submitted by Fish guts on Mon, 2012-07-23 19:04G'day folks.
I want to take my young bloke out to grab a few tailor of the beach. Unfortunately I live in down town High Wycombe but with the freeway systems in place now days it doesn't take all that long o get to a decent beach. My question is where is a good spot to take him to rip into a few? I understand no one is going to reveal their prime time locations but any response will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
