swan/canning fishing
Submitted by Davy_G on Wed, 2009-11-18 12:46hi guys
went out with a few mates on sunday to canning bridge. nothing much to report but my mate got a small bream on a switchblade.
apart from that just blowies, we saw heaps of fish: grunter, whiting, we think a few tailor and a few small bream.
so with not much success there we walked up to the scouts jetty. again nothing to report.
With us all wanting to catch a fish we walked to rookwood jetty.
as we were crossing the bridge we saw about 200 medium tarwhine.
so we raced down the steps and started chucking lures at them but they werent hungry.
when we arrived at rookwood we all had a few casts with nothing biting
Then we tried all around the rock walls around there with a few follow ups but no hook ups.
we had 10 minutes left so we decided to go back to rookwood
on my first cast i got hooked up to something big, went for a short run directly away from me pulling line at a rapid pace, then went for a even bigger run up towards the end of the jetty and snapped my 9lb line.
was using a soft vib the whole time
Any ideas of what the fish could be?
i think it was either a big bream or a small mulloway

Looking for suggestions for an overhead surf rod
Submitted by Colin Hay on Tue, 2009-11-17 16:05I am hoping to pick up a Shimano Trinidad 20DC overhead reel soon, but I am wondering what rod I should put it on.
I would prefer something at least 12 foot long and able to handle throwing lures through to medium-sized live baits.
Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot, Colin

$4000 abalone
Submitted by bod on Tue, 2009-11-17 11:34This week's Cambridge Post reports that a Mt Claremont man must pay more than $4000 after being caught with more than four times the permitted amount of abalone. The man was approached by Department of Fisheries officers at Mettams Pool in Trigg in November last year. He tipped his bag of abalone on to a rock - the officers counted 90. The bag limit is 20 per day per fisher.

Someone found some more tailor
Submitted by Colin Hay on Tue, 2009-11-17 09:02I hear a lad and a lady from Fishwrecked did very nicely on the tailor this morning. I have seen a picture and there are some very fine fish in the haul.
I think they were making the most of the tailor run before thefront comnes through and blows the fishing out for a few days.

The question
Submitted by catchalittle on Mon, 2009-11-16 23:27Been watching a show where the presenter asks this question
You have a day to live before you die and you can have two meals what would they be?
Mine would be 1) Asian dish called Punday Cassway its a soup dish with chicken/noodles prawns and lots of condinments
2) Fresh Mane lobster with sour dough bread and garlic butter
So I pose the question what would your's be?

Buying an unlicensed boat and trailer
Submitted by kackles on Mon, 2009-11-16 22:55Hi guys,
l'm in a dilemma at the moment as to whether to purchase this boat as its going super cheap, however, the nature of the sale is not so simple:
The seller claims since the boat is unlicensed there is no need to fill in any transfer boat documents. Ditto for the trailer. I would just have to fill up a statutory agreement saying that i purchased the boat from him and then take that and register it?
Is this really the case? If so, would i just need treat it as a new boat registration and register the HIN and send the trailer over the pits?
The trouble is the trailer belongs to the guys dad who is in adelaide is unable to do the transfer. The boat he claims belongs to him, but when i ask him for the licensing information, he doesn't have it as he says he also bought the boat when it was unlicensed.
I dont think the boat or trailer is stolen, its just that the guy who owns it is a mess. Anyone encountered such a scenario and care to shed some light on the matter? Any advice would be appreciated!
Cheers,
Kackles

Pristine Walpole Waterway under Threat
Submitted by bod on Mon, 2009-11-16 21:15
Receiving pure rain straight from the Antarctic, Irwin Inlet
and the Bow River which flows into it, are among some of the most pristine and
untouched water systems anywhere in the world.
The mouth of Irwin Inlet opens to the ocean at Peaceful
Bay and provides essential breeding grounds for a significant number of diverse estuarine fish and birds.
Despite that, and the recent announcement that the south
west including the Walpole/Nornalup Inlets Marine Park, the Valley of the
Giants and stunning coastline through to Green Pool/Denmark being listed in the
world’s 10 most desirable places to visit, the Water Corporation has announced that it is
considering damming the Bow River to supply water to Albany, 100kms away.
The planned complex would include a water treatment plant
with a 10 gigalitre capacity (Albany currently uses 4.5 gigalitres per annum);
flood 250 hectares of the Bow Valley and its tributaries; involve bulldozing
all vegetation (riparian and surrounding) in the flood area, the majority of
which is in the proposed World Heritage Walpole Wilderness. It will also remove 20 plus landowners and
their families from the small community infrastructure and compromise an
important water source for other district farmers.
Damming goes against the National Water Initiative of which WA is a signatory. The NWI proposes re-use and
recycling; desalination; rainwater/stormwater and managed aquifer
recharge - dam building being the least preferred option and receiving no
federal funding assistance, which all other methods do. The USA and Europe are actively demolishing
dams in an effort to restore ecosystems damaged by dam development.

Crabbing North of Woodman Point
Submitted by Bluebonefamily on Mon, 2009-11-16 16:14Popped into Oceanside Tackle and Marine today and picked up three more crab nets (we only had five nets when we went to Busselton last summer,) We have never been crabbing around Perth and understand that people can crab north of Woodman Point.
Does anyone have any idea what to use as bait here in perth. In Busselton we used spleen. Also any clues on how long to leave the nets before pulling them would be greatfully appreciated.
The kids are keen to give crabbing a go in the tinny.
Should have asked these things at Oceanside Tackle today but I was too busy looking at the DVDs and working out the release weight.

A great light tackle day in the Pilbarra sun
Submitted by crasny1 on Mon, 2009-11-16 13:12Regarding Trout bait with stripey fillets.
Craig with the little one use a whole fillet or strip bait it.
Had a ball yesterday on small tuna. Great bait too. Must have hit the jackpot (birds everywhere) because caught about 30 in the 1-3kg range, but they werent Mack tuna. Had hardly any colour markings just silver. Scutes on the back. Fins bland. Maybe baby long tails but definite not Northern Blue or YFT. Any ideas?
Kept 3 (I was going to feast on Sashimi but all three got used as bait and the NW snapper (blue lined and Red throats) and strpeys (which I love to eat) loved that. Got 2 trout, just 1cm under limit. Fillets as per the NW would have gone 30cm but I just dont break rules. Probably 60 fish in total between Gillian and myself.
Kept 4 Large Stripies and two large blue lines. Just enough for a feed. Now I have to take the bloody camera out but it is not a cheapy and I use it in my job so reluctant. Have a old 5mp camera and I suppose that would be better than nothing to break the Yeh right sound off a fantastic day.
All around Courtney head with the Tuna and the shoals for the bottom. Sharked heaps but only the baits, not the fish. Decided to upgrade to the Max and boat sided a large Black tip on 10kg main and 150pd leader. Dont know the weight but about 4ft+ long and bloody angry. Nothing like going light and hearing the Saragosa work. Will post this up aswell but thanks for the info and awaiting reply.
Neels
From a PM to Craig Pearce but I thought I would share on the forum.
