Tailor at Night
Submitted by DieHard on Tue, 2008-10-21 20:38hey guys,
was wondering if i can go down with my dad sometime to mullaloo beach for some tailor or skippy or herring etc. and what rigs i should use and any suggested bait though we will be using light gear. Also any locations from the shore at mullaloo beach would be good
one last thing i saw a pretty good location at the Surf livesaving club ( mullaloo) there was a lot of reef around so i whent for a snorkell and saw the reef had liitle caves and the reef stuck quite high out of the sand its only about 50m out so i thought that would be a good spot
Cheers,
Eric

How the time flies....12 months ago 2nd weekend of October. Jurien Bay, my best Dhuie...... Was really excited when that fish came up...... but on reflection and with the current issues, maybe it would of been better if he could have swam back down.

Harimitsu Jigs
Submitted by 7739ian on Mon, 2008-10-20 13:54After reading Brenz's post on the Harimitsu lures, i PM'ed him and spent a few bucks on 3 jigs as i was sure i would be out on the bay the next week. Needless to say, the boat is still having the floor fitted ( love that 2 pack sealer) - so i swapped a 3.5 pinky orange jig to a mate for a spare fuel tank. He went out to the 4 mile yesterday - 3 of his favourite jigs out plus the Harimitsu. Score finished at Favourite Jigs - 0, Single Harimitsu jig - 3 Squid and 1 Cuttlefish. He won't reverse the swap bugger him so it i will try the 2 others shortly and let you know - and thanks Brenz, i knew what they all said about you was bull.

Baldchin Groper
Submitted by Bodie on Mon, 2008-10-20 08:49Just wondering if someone can fill me in on catching baldies..
Ive managed to catch one or 2 in the past, but not really sure what depths, type of reef, baits to use etc...
I know Dhuies stick around broken ground, and snapper is generally better on larger lumps (From my experience anyway)
But I've found baldies taste bloody awesome, and even over the weekend i was hoping to get a couple, but sadly they were not around.
So if anyone could provide some info for me would be awesome.
Ive been fishing in the 30-40m range, on both lumpy ground and just broken ground...
Do baldies school or swim in pairs?
Thanks!

Reopening of Logue Brook Dam supported
Submitted by Colin Hay on Mon, 2008-10-20 08:38Water Minister Dr Graham Jacobs has re-enforced the Government’s commitment to reopening Logue Brook Dam for recreational use.
“Unlike the previous government, which made decisions based on political or emotional grounds, the Barnett Government’s decision-making process has been based on all the relevant facts being assessed,” Dr Jacobs said.
The Minister derided ill-informed comments by Shadow Water Minister Francis Logan about the dual use of Logue Brook Dam.
“Linking the closing of Logue Brook Dam to increased sprinkler bans showed that
Mr Logan had less understanding of his shadow portfolio than he did while a Minister during the recent energy crisis,” he said.
“Mr Logan’s statement that ‘…5.3 gigalitres .. was due to be drawn from Logue Brook dam this summer’ showed he was not across the facts.
“If Logue Brook Dam is to be integrated into the State’s water supply it has to be rested for two winters to improve the water quality, something that the Shadow Minister apparently did not bother to check.
“The fact that the second desalination plant is due to come on line in 2011-12 also appears to have escaped Mr Logan’s attention as this should compensate for the
5.3 gigalitres that may not enter the system from Logue Brook Dam.”
Alternate sources for the integrated water supply system are currently being assessed by the Department of Water and the Water Corporation in consultation with the Minister.
“Following diligent and scientifically-based consideration, the right decision on Logue Brook Dam will be reached and implemented,” he said.
The Minister said alarmist Opposition comments that the Harvey Water Trade deal would be placed at risk were completely inaccurate as the Logue Brook component of the agreement played only a small part in the proposal.

Cape Naturaliste Auction Trip Yesterday
Submitted by gpc123 on Sun, 2008-10-19 19:30Got the word from harro, The trips on,WOOOOOOO, packed the car got away from work and headed down to dunsbrough, down there by 5 and booked into the accomidation.

Quick trip over to coles to get some supplies, walking around with my fishwrecked shirt on and i get a, "Hello", "Oh youve got a fishwreked shirt on", "My husband goes on that site," turns out to be 7739ian's wife(watch out mate she knows about your plan for the husky) Had a very nice chat with her,What a small world.
Next morning its off to harros place to say harro(sorry mark we couldnt help it) And we met up with mark and his daughter. We knew the house because we saw SEADUCED.

We launched the boat, headed out to sea, 20k's out we stoped on some nice ground that looked really good, the sounder was alight but the fish wern't biting. The waves were so big and i nearly fell over a couple of times.
Harro took us back into the bay were it was a little bit calmer and flatter and we set up a drift on some nice looking ground, did 1 drift, lots of bites next thing we know this boat comes over! Turns out to be a mate of Harro's, couple of guys out for a fish with no electronics on their boat, harro turns round and says ",how did you go?" they say",been out for 2 hours, no fish" Harro says ", The lumps over there" they go across the lump and pull up a nice queenie! Back we go across the lump and my son(luke)gets hooked up on his first deep sea fish.

He pulls it up and it turns out to be a nice sweep, the first sweep harros seen out there ever and first fish for the trip, Hes broken the drought!

Couple minutes late harro gets hooked up on this very nice Blackass.

we kept trying all day,we tried different spots, different places but the fish wouldnt play. Very quiet day and mark was very dissapointed and has very kindly invited us down for ROUND 2 witch was a very generous offer that we will happily take him up on.
Thanks mark, was an absolutley great day.(we were totally Seaduced)
Regards:Geoff & Luke

Cray Season
Submitted by Watto069 on Sun, 2008-10-19 16:08Hi All
There has been a bit of talk about crays and as the season is nearly upon us I just wnated to know how many people are planning on getting a licence this season and where abouts they normally go. Also interested in what method everyone uses to catch them
I will be getting my licence and will head out from Mandurah to the 5 fathom bank and other spots. I like to dive for crays using a cray loop or just use my hands under some ledges. I will also be putting some pots out this year.
Best of Luck to all those heading out this season and can't wait to see the photo's and reports
Cheers

Flatrocks
Submitted by Dean on Sun, 2008-10-19 15:18Fished flatrocks this morning, using lures didn't get any tailor but had one follow my popper in close.
There was a heap of herring around so we pulled in quite a few on soft plastics, one on a 30g twisty and a few prawns.

Opinions on small spinning reels
Submitted by WODF on Fri, 2008-10-17 16:38Soon will be getting a new reel but first wanted to hear some opinions from others. I was looking at either a 2000 Daiwa or 2500 Shimano around $200. Will be matched on a 7', 2-4kg stick and used for throwing small lures on 8lb. Reasons to buy or not to buy would be helpfull too
Thanx
