Fish finder - advice needed

I am looking at buying a fish finder and have found a couple of Hummingbird Pirahna Max units at a good price.

There are two models available, the 210 and the 215.  They are both the same price so I was wondering if anyone owned one and could let me know what they think and what the difference is as I can't see much??

CheersSmile

Best leader

After I  lost good fish after having the leader bitten through on the weekend I am on the lookout for strong, abrasion resistant leader. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Many thanks Colin Hay

Furuno or Lowrance, What to buy

HI

I am in dire need of a 1kw sounder for fishing deep the furuno 585 or lowrance LCX 27 that is where i am at, both have a bit of sex apeal.

a 585 furuno is the first option although for similar dollars the LCX 27 or 37 comes with a plotter and my nave man ploter does not hace the same coverage using C map as the navionics card.

what should i do?

I want to try out deep so need the power.

Tagged Pinky Recapture

Had the interesting experience of re-capturing a fish on Saturday that I had tagged with Tim back in November last year. A little Pinky opf 43cm, had grown 2cm in that time and moved about 2nm west.

I didn't realise it was a tagged fish until I had it in the esky. The tag was well and truly covered in slime and was on the other side of the fish as we landed it. Will be giving the guys at fisheries a ring in the morning.

Has anyone else recaptured their own tagged fish as yet?

Just waiting for the 70 odd cm Dhuie I tagged the same day to show up again in a few years, once its had a chance to put on a few extra kilo's.Wink

Sambos in the swan

Hey all went fishing today with original teenage, was at e shed when nothing was really going on so we left to go to that bridge just round the corner, the one with the really fast current. Dunno what its called but it goes under all the trafic. Anyway, when we were walking along the bridge we looked down into the water and wtf! sambos?! no shorter than a meter long, tried everything but it just turned its nose at us. Squid,Mulie, Lures, Plastics, wasnt interested in a thing! then we noticed another 3 more just cruising around the shallows of the bridge. Got photos here in my mobile but cant find my cord to the computer, original teenage has some photos that he could post.

Beautiful fish just to watch cruise around effortlesly in the shallows, tried to hook up to one for a bit of a pull but they didnt want to play ball.

Oh well didnt catch a thing or i woulda tried a livie infront of it, still a good day out just to see one at the river mouth.

Gday people ! Thinking of going out with Saltwater Charters this thurs/fri  has anyone been out with them before?? cheers

Custom made Sea Anchor, took me a while!

Over the years of bottom bouncing i've never been really happy with the sea anchors i've used. I tried the cheap tarp material type, the parachute material type and the very expense ones also with average performance. Some didn't last long and well some just didn't work well. This recently has changed when i told my sea anchor supplier that i'm still not happy with what i've been using so he came up with a suggestion.

He said "how about i make up one that is made of strong material, opens up all the time, slows the boat down just nicely and you test it out and let me know your thoughts".... that sounds sweet i said!

I've been using this prototype/sample for sometime now (in all conditions) and i'm completely impressed with it. It opens up all the time, slows my boat speed down and isn't a big bulky thing. I gave him the nod and he's now made them up for me to sell.

They're suitable for 6-10 metre boats, has two swivels, a dump/retrieve cord and a carry bag. They normally sell for $199 but i'm doing a " limited special " Only $149 but whilst stocks last. I can get more but they'll be at the normal price however. If your in the market for one or you've had issues like i've had then check them out!

PM me for any more enquiries!

Cheers

North/South Mole

Hi all

My family and i are heading up to the show tomorrow and we will be staying near the north and south mole. I was wondering if it is worth throwing a rod in the car and having a fish there and if it is worth it what is the best techniques and gear to use.

Cheers Connors

Monday - Two Rocks

Monday:  NE winds 5/10 knots shifting NW'ly 10/15 knots by midday. Winds increasing W/NW'ly 15/20 knots during the evening. Seas 1.0m to 1.5m. Swell to 2.5m.

Anyone heading out from Two Rocks tomorrow ?

With any luck the weather guru has thrown the right dart for Monday and it holds 5-10 through the morning !

Fish today - Work Tomorrow !!!

Saturday Mako

Showed either my complete lack of picking weather, or tragic addiction to fishing and put in at Hillaries at 5.30 saturday morning. Afters shortening my spine by a few inches arrived west of rotto to chase some Kingies and ambers 2 hours later. Nothing much exciting to report on the fishing front, but for the first ten minutes we had about a 12ft mako going nuts 50m from the boat launching up in the air obviously chasing bait - was impressive to say the least.

Fishwrecked Rotto trip

How about we try and get a fishwrecked gathering at Rotto this summer......Bathurst Beach Pens

Theres about 30 pens so we could have a pretty good turnout. Anyone interested....

A few beers and crays with a bit of sambo jigging to boot!

Going down south

Hey guys,

As the weekend currently looks quiet nice i am thinking of taking the Duck (4.7m/40hp) down to Bunbury or Busselton and try my luck in scouting some spots. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what launch jetty's are the best and what are some good areas to patrol, hoping to pickup some Snapper/Dhufish if their around but I am completely new to the area so not sure where to go.

Cheers in advance,

Stevo.

Hey Guys! Tues nite Fishing

Hey guys,

As i said i would post how i went tuesday night fishing. well. no good. Went to scarborough with my mate at about sunset and fished for about 3 hours, caught some herring with the light gear but really wanted my spool flying off on my weighted rod. didnt happen. We even packed up and headed for north mole, stayed there for another few hours and yet again it was herring and nothing taking the big bait.

Was a bit of weed around north mole which sucked, thought that it woulda cleared but guess not. Im going to head out again next week sometime, if anyones up for a late night and are heading out gimme a buz or post on the forums, im usually lurking around.

$4.50 for a Block of Mulie. Gets the Girls Wild.

Left Hand Overhead's

Avet or Alutecnos... what to get

Just checking out the avet AVETLX63SL I have not heard much about these reels though the speces suit me for jigging & GT fishing the two speed is a bonus when deep too, if this reel was going to be as good as a shimano  I would own one already and not be asking qustions.

Left hand wind seems to be neglected by the big companys.

Is avet a good product if so why is no one selling them in australia?

I hate using right hand wind, I do not want to get used to swaping hands when i fish, the rod stays in my casting hand while I lift and wind, The stupid hand does the winding the strong arm lifts the fish, has anyone thought of this or are me and Steve Starling the only people that think this makes sense?
