Going down south
Submitted by Stev0 on Thu, 2008-09-25 11:51Hey guys,
As the weekend currently looks quiet nice i am thinking of taking the Duck (4.7m/40hp) down to Bunbury or Busselton and try my luck in scouting some spots. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what launch jetty's are the best and what are some good areas to patrol, hoping to pickup some Snapper/Dhufish if their around but I am completely new to the area so not sure where to go.
Cheers in advance,
Stevo.

Hey Guys! Tues nite Fishing
Submitted by Smoothie on Wed, 2008-09-24 22:41Hey guys,
As i said i would post how i went tuesday night fishing. well. no good. Went to scarborough with my mate at about sunset and fished for about 3 hours, caught some herring with the light gear but really wanted my spool flying off on my weighted rod. didnt happen. We even packed up and headed for north mole, stayed there for another few hours and yet again it was herring and nothing taking the big bait.
Was a bit of weed around north mole which sucked, thought that it woulda cleared but guess not. Im going to head out again next week sometime, if anyones up for a late night and are heading out gimme a buz or post on the forums, im usually lurking around.
$4.50 for a Block of Mulie. Gets the Girls Wild.
Left Hand Overhead's
Submitted by Justin Poole on Wed, 2008-09-24 19:41Avet or Alutecnos... what to get
Just checking out the avet AVETLX63SL I have not heard much about these reels though the speces suit me for jigging & GT fishing the two speed is a bonus when deep too, if this reel was going to be as good as a shimano I would own one already and not be asking qustions.
Left hand wind seems to be neglected by the big companys.
Is avet a good product if so why is no one selling them in australia?
I hate using right hand wind, I do not want to get used to swaping hands when i fish, the rod stays in my casting hand while I lift and wind, The stupid hand does the winding the strong arm lifts the fish, has anyone thought of this or are me and Steve Starling the only people that think this makes sense?
Please Help...

kalbarri report
Submitted by original teenage on Wed, 2008-09-24 19:31hey guys.just came back from kalbarri..its a lovely and relaxing place to stay. = ]..go for it if ur thinking of heading up that way.when we arrived..we headed straight to chinamans point..everyone was there and the place was packed with anglers...although no one got any fish..except for a couple of anglers pulling in seagulls lol...annoying little buggers..once ur bait touches the water its gone to the birds..even before casting, they come right close to ya back and steal ya bait before u do a overhead cast...we tried everwhere..red bluff, wittecarra, rivermouth, blue holes with no success..for the past three days we were there...shameful and dissapointing ..until last night when i plan to do a overnight at the jetty..not sure what jetty but its the only 1 with lights at night.first cast whack ...a baby lil mulloway..and then follow by a school of tailor...seeing them smash every bait we cast out on the surface..seeing them whacking it was fascinating..but no big ones around..only manage to caught 1 legal sized 1 which was release..after the school of tailor ..i had a massive run on the live mullet...took around 200-230m and nearly spooled me...manage to control it and get back a bit of line on the first run..than its second run..ran me into a pylon at the opposite side of the jetty..arrgh..it felt like a mulloway of at least 10kg..but ..oh well always another time...but continued fishing and landed my pb mulloway at 70cm..released it = ]and caught heaps of baby mulloway after that...end of report =]

What happened to Monday
Submitted by Colin Hay on Wed, 2008-09-24 15:22Checked the BOM site this morning and it is forecasting 26 degrees - so I thought Monday might be a cracking fishing day. Seabreeze is now predicting 30 knott winds. Looks like Sunday will be the go.

south of perth for the past few days. As my parents will be visiting from Singapore for the weekend (26th 27th Sept), i was
thinking of showing them my new found hobby(fishing). but did not want to end the day empty
handed like i normally do. any advice on *location, bait ( squid, prawns and sand worm are what i am using), rigs, time would be most welcome.
thank you

squid jig
Submitted by brenz on Wed, 2008-09-24 09:36went out monday with some japenese people from harimitsu etc in search of some squid. needless to say the japenese were excited to hit the sound only to be greeted by servere cloudiness in the water. the gear brought on the boat was nothing short of phenominal and left me in awe these guys had it all . we ended up with quite a few squid of good size and i ended up learning a new techinque of squiding and also learnt that there is so much more to "egi" than i thaught . after taking them out i have had to come to reality that my yozuri jigs just dont cut it next to the harimitsu jigs getting outfished on average 5 to 1 lol.

Where is the Best Shore Fishing in Australia?
Submitted by Liamo on Tue, 2008-09-23 23:12Hi guys,
I am writing to you from Ireland because after another incredibly crap summer here (~3 days of sunshine - no kidding) I have had enough and I am packing in the job and heading to warmer climes.
I am a fanatical shore angler here in Ireland - when the weather permits - but dwindling fish stocks and huge commercial pressure has left the shore fishing in this part of the world a mere shadow of what it used to be.
So the plan is to find a destination with some awesome shore fishing and build a job and a new life around it afterwards :-) I've been looking at the Exmouth/Ningaloo area on the NW coast but I am wondering if I am missing out on better elsewhere?
Have a look at my website, this is as good as land based sea fishing gets here in Ireland - trust me! I need more and bigger fish - where do I go!?
Cheers,
Liam

Checking in.
Submitted by Bloke on Tue, 2008-09-23 21:10It's been a tough couple of weeks that's forsure, however I'm now back
home with a bourbon and having a surf, finally some normality setting
in again.
Today was awesome at work unwrapping a heap of
new Hobies and getting them organised in my display area, and I'm
excited to say our dealership is now well under way and getting
organised.
See you out there
Al.
What am I doing wrong??
Submitted by tango and cash on Tue, 2008-09-23 17:53Hello, I am by my own admission a very unsuccesful fisherman. I have little knowledge and try to pick things up from this site as I go along.
I recently bought a little tinny and yesterday went out just outside the Marina at Mindarie for a fish after work.
I intended to go for Skippy or Garfish. I used a number 6 hook and a little fluro bead on line with prawns from the river as bait. I also had a burley bucket out and some fish oil.
I was fishing about 20-30 metres away from the outer harbour wall where everyone seemed to be pulling in heaps of good size fish. However, with two rods out I didn't even get a nibble.
I am clearly doing something wrong, any thoughts. I have 15lb line on one rod and 6lb on another. Does heavier line put the fish off?
Please help or I am going to have to take up another hobby as I cannot take much more of the wife's piss taking
I don't have a fish finder but then neither did the guys on the rocks!! I am more than happy to take someone out for a fish if they are willing to show me where I am going wrong.

Favoured wind directions
Submitted by Colin Hay on Tue, 2008-09-23 16:30I was just fiddling with the Seabreeze graph checking out the winds for the weekend and I was wondering what wind directions do people prefer when fishing ofshore in WA?
Someone told me once that mightn't go out if the wind was blowing from a certain direction, even if it wasn't overly strong, as they reckoned the fishing was always poor when those conditions prevailed.
Any thoughts?
