Submitted by Tim on Wed, 2008-04-23 20:25For all those who are planning on fishing Saturday (Looks like going ahead at this stage) its time to get organised and get into Oceanside or Compleat Angler Joondalup and drop your money off so we can get some prizes organised. G'Day from a new member
Submitted by Shortly on Tue, 2008-04-22 17:19Hi Everyone,
I just signed up today, decided to become legit instead of loitering in the background.
Well I suppose I better tell you a bit about myself. Dont worry i'll keep it short and sweet.
I have been fishing since I was born just about lol, no kidding I have a pic of my dad and myself at 3 with my 1st whiting.
Have been out of the fishing scene for some years now, but in January this year my partner and I went fishing at Busselton and im afraid we
were bitten by that blasted fishing bug. Even went out and bought a 4WD so we could go beach fishing as we are land based with no access to a boat, (thankgoodness with the price of fuel these days).
We fish mainly in the Northern suburbs marinas and beach with a few trips down to White Hills, have yet to try out Wilbinga yet as im not that experienced at 4WDing, but im getting there.
Well i said I would keep this short and sweet, dont want to bore you all to tears.
cheers,
Shortly

Reel to use with a Nitro Innovator Surf Assassin?
Submitted by till on Sun, 2008-04-20 19:48
Hiyas,
I picked up one of these recently, and am using it with a BG90, but it seems a bit heavy and a bit clunky for it. Are there any 5000 or 6000 reels that have taper spools for surf casting? I think there is a JDM one called the PA Prosurf or Spin Joy with some nice features, but don't know much about it.
Any other suggestions?

totally disgusted
Submitted by MacMan on Sun, 2008-04-20 09:21My mate and I have been fishing quite a lot these past few months on the beach and on the Swan River. Every time we have fished i we speak to people that complain about the Asians and Indians that come here and take every fish they catch regardless of their size. Then as we are fishing with these same people (not wanting to be racist but they are white Australians) we see them catching plenty of juveniles AND KEEPING THEM! Taking home Bream that clearly are undersize and choppers that would be lucky to be 15cms long!
We have said to a few of them that the fish look undersize and then they turn and say "One won't hurt" yet they have a bucket load! Same goes with crabs. It is easier to blame the Asians and indians, than it is to take responsibility for their own actions.
Last night I threw a Bream back that was 24cm long (undersize by 1cm). This guy that was there fishing as well said "It is only just undersize mate, keep it." This attitude outrages me.

Dhuie Rigs?
Submitted by Big Kev on Sun, 2008-04-20 09:17Hi guys, I'm curious as to what type of rig, style and hook size you guys use to target Dhufish. Many years ago we used 100lb handlines padenosta rig with 7/0 8/0 hooks in suicide pattern. Now I still use the dropper rig but use smaller 4/0 5/0 Big Red hooks. Does anyone still use huge hooks or a different style of rig?
Cheers Kev.

salmon but bonito
Submitted by kaitan on Sat, 2008-04-19 17:47had plans with my mate to meet at the mole at 7am in the morning yesterday. but he didnt show up till later around 10am lol.. there were many salmon schools around!! u can see they are massive but non of them are reachable!! too far!! we can see from a distance that the birds are going for bait fish and u also can see that they are jumping!! as i was fishing with lures hoping the get one!! i saw something was chasing this bait fish that were reachable so a guy that who i met over there cast in first !! immediately he got a hooked up!! so i cast mine !!! where the bait fish was jumping and not even a second and i'm already on him!!! didnt know wat it was but it fought hard on my bream gear!and the guy next to me lost his fish due to not enough tension on the line so he decided to give me with a hand since he had the net, he was so excited that he fell trip and fell in the water luckily i was also alert and grab on to him!! basically half of him body summerg in water !! and finally there it was a bonito!!! hmm i was hoping for a salmon but bonito is fine!! measured to 51 cm weights 1.8kg after gutting it!! that was my heaviest landbased fish i ever land so far. i was so happy and thankful at the same but yet i felt abit bad coz he fell and hurt himself (the guy that helped me) as he was bleeding at his ankle, thighs and elbow. i guess it's karma. i help many people i guess this is one of my deed.

mulloway
Submitted by hlokk on Fri, 2008-04-18 15:44According to my almanac (and other people), today or monday should be good day to fish (at 10pm and midnight respectively). Though mon doesnt look like a very high tide? I think a new moon is best for mulloway, but either side of a full moon is also good? Is a full moon worth trying, or is there some other species better to try? I'm hoping its a good time as I havent caught a mulloway (and would like to).
According to seabreeze it looks like 20+ knot southerly winds tonight which rules out most beaches. I'm guessing the north mole, the groynes, the marinas and Pt peron/woodman pt would be out of the wind, but I have no idea which are best for mulloway (if any). The other option would be to head north to lancelin (fish at night and dawn-early morning). My friend has a fixed camper up there which I could use, and it would probably be better fishing for other stuff as well (also heard sambos cruise around the jetty, and you can leave a live herring out and perhaps catch one).
The other option would be the river near the narrows.
Does anyone have any suggestions on where/when. If lancelin is a good option (either fri or mon), then there will be a spare spot (leave perth say 5-6ish and get back by 10 the next day). Sun night is also an option. Of course, no point doing this if there is better or just as good fishing closer to where I am (wembley).

AMAZING THING IVE EVER SEEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Submitted by SPESS on Thu, 2008-04-17 16:53On the way back from quoting a job in Beeliar today, myself and my misses were cruizing up the freeway just before (about 1km) mounts bay road i was happening to look out into the river when i seen the biggest river frenzy ive ever seen!
Ill pulled sraight over to the umusement of my wife to see a large school approx 80m across getting smashed up by 2 large bull sharks at about 5 feet long!
The school of fish where hard to identify but they looked to be large mullet, the 2 sharks were circling the school around and around and then swooping in for a bite or two! All this was happening in about 1metre of water and about 5 metres from the shore! I jumped the fence and watched this for 15minutes in shock as the sharks where almost beaching them selves to get a feed then it went slowly further out and i couldnt see.
Even my misses was amazed by it and she hit the nail on the head when see said that "god i bet you wish you had a camera"!
HELL YEAH! Bluddy awsome!
