Hey i caught this fish ages ago in  denmark western australia and never really knew  what it was i thought maybe a type of snapper because of its head what do you guys reckon.

Weather is looking pretty good swell currently @ 1.8 light winds forecast,hopefully it will make up for saturday.

While the rising tide coincides with dawn, I thought I might try my hand at catching some tailor (or salmon if i'm really lucky) on poppers. Want to head up to the capricorn club in yanchep, but given the chance of rain in the next day or two, somewhere closer might be a better option.

I'm thinking swanbourne would be best, but I dont know where to fish there. Last time I thought I found the right spot but it said no fishing (just south of the surf club area). I'm guessing then that you would park near the surf club and walk north, casting towards reef? How far north do you normally walk and are there any other no fishing areas I need to be aware of? Looking at google maps there doesnt look like theres a lot of reefy areas (though south of cottesloe does)

One of our cray boats was short of a decky today so i was skipper and my step bro took the decky work with myself also helping out. The crays are sh!t atm but i'm posting this becasue today my step bro nearly got a snapper lead and 2 big sets of gands in his head whilst the winch was spinning a hundred mile an hour ;)....;)

State Government funding for Pilbara boating facilities

More than $241,000 has been allocated by the State Government to improve two recreational boating facilities in the Pilbara this year.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said the two grants provided:
· $225,000 to the Shire of Roebourne to replace and duplicate the boat launching ramp at Johns Creek Boat Harbour near Point Samson; and
· $15,450 to the Shire of Ashburton for an upgrade at Beadon Creek in Onslow.
“Boating is a big part of the Pilbara culture and a major attraction for visitors to the region,” Ms MacTiernan said.
“Boat ownership in the Shire of Roebourne is 146 per 1,000 people, which is more than three times the State-wide average of 42 boats per 1,000 people.“An additional launching ramp at Johns Creek Boat Harbour will help meet growing demand from Wickham residents and visitors at the Point Samson caravan park, including many Karratha locals on their days off.
“The installation of fencing and additional lighting at Beadon Creek boat ramp will make the facilities safer for local people and visitors.”
The Minister said the funding was provided through the Recreational Boating Facilities Scheme, which provided new and improved boating infrastructure by reinvesting boat owners’ registration fees.
“Since 2001, the scheme has allocated more than $1million for boating facilities to local governments and other agencies in the Pilbara,” she said.

Good times ahead for recreational boaters in the South-West

Boating families will be able to access the Collie River and Leschenault Estuary, now that $500,000 worth of dredging work has finished.
While visiting the site today, South-West Minister Mark McGowan said the dredging had created greater access and dramatically improved safety in the channel.
“The river mouth and connecting estuary had become virtually inaccessible because of the sedimentation over the years,” Mr McGowan said.
“It’s a fantastic spot for recreational boating, but this silting process made the channel very shallow.”
Dredging was carried out in September last year to remove the excess sedimentation, after the Department for Planning and Infrastructure (DPI) received several complaints from boat owners who had been grounded in the shallow water.
Mr McGowan said part of the project also involved installing navigational markers, which had improved safety in the channel.
The South West Development Commission and the DPI co-ordinated the dredging efforts, including an independent environmental assessment, public consultation and liaison with indigenous elders.
Collie-Wellington MLA Mick Murray said the significance of the area to the local Noongar people had also been recognised with a bronze plaque at Pelican Point, opposite the river mouth.
“It acknowledges the cultural and spiritual beliefs of the Noongar people with respect to the Ngaarngungudditj Waugul, the Collie River and Leschenault Estuary,” Mr Murray said.
“The dredging project should keep the area accessible for at least the next 10 years.”

I am thinking of heading down to Ocean Reef boat harbour to toss a line in. Has anyone had much experience fishing there.
I am wondering if the best spots are on the end of the main wall or the smaller wall.
I am also wondering if that little groyne just to the north is worth a try?

Righteo, doing one of the silliest things possible and predicting a good day out tomorrow. Got a combo for every possible fish and for every situation the wind may present on the Westside of Exmouth tomorrow. Hopefully there will be another tinny marlin and at worst a nice coral trout or rankin/coronation. Steve (boutime) and I have rigged up for the final occasion of us fishing in Exmouth for quite some time, so hopefully the tinny can produce as his big boat is in for a service. I will report in tomorrow night with some results or serious disappointment, one way or another I'm well prepared and am going to enjoy my day on the water one way or another. Bring it on I say!!!!

I’m after some information regarding rod guides.
There has been talk of braid wearing into guides and wanted to know if
Aluminium Oxide Guides will stand up to braid or is it to soft..

There are some clever chaps on this site who like to experiment with different rigs.
I have been working on a new setup which has been pretty successful for me and I am wondering if you guys have any ideas for some adaptions.
To make the rig I take a length of mono leader, about a metre. I make a loop on one end, like you would for a paternoster rig. But instead of putting a sinker on that loop put a set of gang hooks. At the other end tie a one-way swivel. About a foot below that swivel make a dropper loop of about 6 or 8 inches. Get some lumo tube, cut a piece that is about 1 inch shorter than your loop. Thread the loop though the rube. Then put a small suicide or long shanked hook on the end of the loop. Repeat that process with another loop about 12 inches above the bottom set of gang hooks.
Place a mulie on the gangs and pieces of mulie (or whatever you like) on the smaller hooks.
The mulie acts like a sinker and a burley cage at the same time and also has the chance to catch a tailor, salmon or mulloway.
The top hooks will catch tailor, herring, whiting, etc.
The lumo tubes act as an attractant and also keeps your loops straight.

As you don’t have any lead, you need to use this rig when there is not a lot of wind (or an offshore wind) and not a lot of surf. But in the right conditions it is deadly.
One adaption I made recently was to use a set of gangs with a treble on the end on the bottom loop as I was being hit by squid. It worked a treat.

JUST WONDERING ON THE FISHING IN THE PERTH AREA (WOODMANS POINT GARDEN ISLAND ) LATLY IVE BEEN FISHING IN THIS AREA, NOW IVE BROUGHT ALL THE GEAR I NEED TO FISH OVERHEAD ROD REALS, LURES ,POPPERS ,BAIT AND SO ON AND THAT MAIN GEAR FUEL $1.52A LITRE  IVE BEEN OUT 3 OR 4 TIMES THIS WEEK AND ALL I COULD BRING BACK WAS 3 SQUID AND 3 GARDIES PREETY SAD IF YOU ASK ME I KNOW THE FISH STOCK ARE LOW ,SO WHY DONT THEY START BREEDING FISH LIKE THEY DO EVERYWHERE ELSE ,BUT BREED THEM IN PENS SOMEWHERE LIKE AROUND GARDEN ISLAND OR CARNAC WHY ARNT THEY DOING SOMETHING LIKE THIS,INSTEED THEY CUT FISHING TIMES DOWN OR DECIDE TO BULID A F@#$ING BOAT RAMP THAT WE REALY DONT NEED YET AS THERE IS NO FISH TO BE CAUGHT IN THIS AREA CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY THEY DONT DO THIS AS IT PISSES ME OF THAT THE POLITICANS THINK WE NEED A BOAT RAMP BEFORE WE NEED MORE FISH

Hi guys, looking at organising a trip for a week or so up to Broome in July. Probably the week before school holidays start.



Going with the gf, but still as much fishing as I want . Want to go out on the ocean at least 2 days, other days i'll fish from the shore or the jetty. Read a bit of info on what you can catch off the beaches, so compiling a list of what I could catch and where.



Would really like to catch some GT's and wahoos most of all, but also interested in catching some queenfish, threadfin, mackerel, sailfish and mangrove jacks/barra if they are around (not sure on the seasons for them).



Info found so far: cable beach rocks popping for GT's and queenfish. rising tides near creeks for barra, gt's , threadfin. jetty for gt's, queenfish, mangrove jacks at night. mackerel at end of jetty. north of rocks/nude beach on rising tide for threafin. For the creeks, someone recommended willie creek, but what about the one near the broome townsite?



Is there fishing platforms on the jetty or would I need a cliff gaff? For what to use and where to go landbased, talking to tackle shops should yield enough info (and will pick up one of those NW angler magasines).



There are a few things I want to check way before I go which is tides and charters. Not sure what the tides are doing the week i'm going but I think its 'normal tides' at about 6m or so. I'm guessing it shouldnt be a problem fishing most days of the week, but some species prefer differing tides.



The other is I wanted to go out to target some wahoo or something similar like that. I really dont want to go on some charter with 16 other people using alvey winches for bottom fish, so looking for something with only a few people, preferably on a center console type boat for 360 degree fishing casting or trolling lures. Would also like to go GT popping with someone who knows what they're doing. I have the boat gear, but no heavy shorebased gear (unless I use a boat rod which will probably not cast all that far ;) ). I'll be open for a charter to go sportsfishing, but would rather go out with someone from the forums if possible.



Also would be great to catch up with some guys to do some landbased fishing as well (but If I can get out on a boat often, all the merrier). So if any of you guys want to catch up for some onshore/offshore fishing let me know.



Gearwise, I might be a little undergunned for some of the fish up there, probably would take my aspire 4000 with 20lb braid and the nexave southern spin 9'. Thinking of getting a short 6.5-7' or so 20lb rod though to replace one I already have if it will work well. Boat rod is a 50lb combo which should be fine, but may be able to borrow gear depending. How will the 20lb setup go for queenies, GT's, mackerel, etc?. Some recommend 50-80lb popping for GT's, but perhaps thats only for the big fish in certain areas? I also have an emcast 4500 with 30lb fireline but the matching rod is a 12' surf rod which may be too big (plus a little heavy). Other options I have are a 15lb overhead combo, and a 4lb combo (though this seems woefully small for the area :p).

Does anyone know where I can get hold of a plastic (or metal) stick on reel seat? I think Fuji make a metal one which is called a plate reel seat.

Hi all,

I am interested in trying out WA's trout fisheries.  I do not have the first idea of what the fisheries are like here as far as timings, closed seasons, trout behaviours, et, for the area.  I have done a fair bit of trout fishing over east.

Is there a tackle store in the perth area that specializes in this sort of fishing or is there any one on this website or know of anyone that I could talk to and hopefully point me in the right direction?

1 When using occy for bait what is the best way to present it for bottom bashing (assuming paternostr(spelling)rig).
2 Do you leave the skin on or off.

Headed out today from rockingham at 7am to Hillary's Fad, some big swells running out deep, some i rekon hitting 4 and half m, pushed out there to find only one other boat there, which left not long after, thought this isnt a good sign.

The current was pushing 100miles an hour and made fishing hard, tried cubing for the dollies but nothing, couldnt stay in the area long enough, so decided to troll around a bit, craig had a small very half hearted hit that didnt hook up and we saw 3 dollies jump near the fad, all good fish around 7 to 8kg, then decided to troll a few lures for a while towards PGFC which is no longer there either, no tuna at all even though we trolled alot of bait schools.

Headed then to the 90's for an hour bottom bashing, pretty quiet, only a few small bites, then got the nice pinky and it was time to head in.

 Andy you will pleased to know i hit my herring spot and got heaviest herring again today 3 comps in a row now.

All in all around 80nm for bugga all but was nice being out on the water and had a huge pod of dolphins follow us for a while which was very pleasant, some huge ones too

hey guys,went for a night fish off bunbury friday night in 40m caught one dhuie .this dhuie was 900mm long but only weighed 12kg its head n tall were massive but it was only around one hundred mm thick.it had no eggs or food in its gut but spewed a hole cuttle fish up on the deck.the dhuies i normaly catch are black this one was light silver.the flesh looks like big pinky color n texture .havent eaten it yet.i never got a photo .i filleted it at the ramp at 4am and then headed of to work for 10hrs.my phone shat its self out at sea with the boat launching every swell,painfull-still painfull.lol.whats the go with this skanky dhuie?

Met Matthew on the ramp at 6 o'clock we headed out north, conditions were good. Things were a bit slow as most patches weren't holding any fish. Did a lot of miles .by days end we had a good feed of fish with some gear stuffups, hooks snapping knots slipping and a straightened hook there was a few bronze whalers sharks around as Jesse hooked up two around the 10kg
5 x Dhuie’s 2 released
2 x Sargent bake all released
1 x baldie
5 x Break Sea cod
1 x sand snapper
2 x sharks all released
1 x stingray all released
4 x blowies all released
Plus as said before 4 x fish dropped on the way up.
We had to pull out the game chair for the ray as I needed to sit and rest ( that esky needs some padding )
