Tomorrows Dive Weather

Whats happening in the morning weather in Perth, Was looking at going for a dive tomorrow for some crays and will need some others aswell, easy can take three, maybe four if your all close, BUT todays seabreeze prediction was 16-17 knots but recorded 6-8 knots.

Whats the weather actually been doing in the mornings, I just got back into Perth today, has it been blowing in the mornings or not. Can head out after 9 ish.

To fully roll, tip roll or not roll at all?

In the process of setting up a 24kg mono trolling outfit and was curious as to peoples thoughts on which type of rod they would recommend.

Never fished with a fully rollered rod before so i was wondering if there are any advantages of going with such a setup for this line class. Obviously roller maintenance will be an issue but that wouldn't be a problem.

Will a roller tip only be just as beneficial?

John

One combo, which would you take?

If you were going on a Skywest mystery flight in W.A somewhere and allowed to take one combo from your arsenal, which one would you choose?

Landbased suggestion needed

I am planning on taking my 14 yo daughter fishing tomorrow night. I am hoping that someone maybe able to suggest somewhere north of the river that would be worth a crack for some landbased fishing.

Coral Bay Advice

Hey Guys

This is my first post and i would like to say gday, look forward to getting to know some of you.

Anyway, I am going to Coral Bay on th 26th December for about 10 days. I have never been there before and really need some advice on:
Were abouts to fish (no secret spots just a starting piont)?
What to expect in terms of fish?
What rods/reels,lures etc. to take up there?
And any other advice on coral bay.

I will be landbased only because our boat won't be ready in time and i was hoping for light tackle fun with lures. I aslo really want to get a spanglie on a lure.

Thanks heaps guys

Fisheries’ compliance checks to step-up this weekend

Fisheries’ compliance checks to step-up this weekend

Fisheries and Marine Officers will be out in force this weekend, targeting metropolitan boat
ramps; to make sure people are complying with fisheries laws and marine safety rules.
The warmer weather attracts more fishing and boating activity off the Perth coast and the
Department of Fisheries is calling on boat users to keep safety in mind at all times and reminding
fishers to be aware of the fishing laws.

South Metropolitan Region Compliance Manager John Breeden said Fisheries and Marine
Officers would be at boat ramps and out on the water constantly during summer.
“We have a very important role in monitoring marine safety rules and also to check fishers are
doing the right thing by not exceeding bag and size limits or breaching other fishing rules,” Mr
Breeden said.

“Boat ramp checks will be done at different times of the day, so, if people are heading out on the
water, we will be checking whether they have the appropriate marine safety equipment on board
and, if they are returning, we will check the catch that fishers have brought back with them as
well their safety equipment.”

Anyone wanting more information about boating safety can find out more from the Department
for Planning and Infrastructure website at www.dpi.wa.gov.au/marine. Details on fishing rules
are available online at www.fish.wa.gov.au. Click on the recreational fishing tab at the top left of
the home page and follow the links to your area of interest.
Mr Breeden said fishing rules were designed to protect the sustainability of stocks and ensure
that there would be fish for the future.

“At this time of year there is a lot of interest in rock lobster fishing, which is one of our fisheries
that requires a licence, so fishers should make sure they have a receipted licence or the official
licence card from the Department of Fisheries,” he said.
“As well as boat ramp and on the water patrols, Fisheries and Marine officers also have vehicles
and boats, with high tech communications, capable of targeting remote or hard to reach
locations.

“Of course, the bottom line is that the community expects us to deal with those people who
ignore or breach the rules and we encourage fishers and other members of the public that see
suspicious activity to report it to FishWatch on 1800 815 507.”

Just wondering if there is any scallies around at the woodman point jetty, I was thinking about going down to get some bait.

jagging

Had my 5 year old daughter pestering me to take her fishing so that she could try out her new outfit so took her down to Kent street weir, she didnt catch any fishing but did pull in about four rigs that had some very large treble's attached to the end, obviously someone is down there trying to jag bream which is a shame no wonder there are no fish there at the moment.Bought her for her birthday a daiwa luvias 2500 matched to a shimano lipstick loaded with 8 lb pink bionic braid her second outfit.

Lancelin Wednesday Report

Wednesday did not get off to a fantastic start after some wonderful staff member pulled a sickie which caused me to get home at 1.30 in the morning. Anyway seeing as it had been too long before drinks I did not call it off and 5.30 saw Munners calling at my front door to get my lazy arse up. Bit later start then planned but I was still feeling pretty good and when we came over the hill at Lano I started feeling great.

Beach launch went smoothlyand the iced coffee and Bacon sanger from the servo had me wide awake and keen to try out the new outfit. Hoping to see some TUna on the way to our chosed spot I had a 20gm raider rigged and ready on the new Branzino. About half way there we came upon a small school but they were too quick and after a few casts we gave it away.

Got to the spot after a 30 min run and all looked good, little drift, great vis, but not much on the sounder. We looked around and could see afew fish so decided to have  adrop anyway. Not expecting too much I dropped down the 20gm raider, complete with stock treble. HIt the bottom, two flicks and I was on and in trouble. The fish took half the spool before stopping and turning. and on a 10lb rod with the small hook I thought it was only going to be luck if I saw it. The Branzino was awesome, super smooth drag but still had enough power that I could at least put a bit of hurt on. Anyway, 15 minutes later I had my best Sambo at the boat. 34Lb on a 20lb Fluro leader, probably my best ever catch. The better thing was that he had a few friends that made him look small. I chose to stay with the light gear as it was hell fun, but Munro pulled out the elephant gun. 20000 stella, 100lb braid and leader on a Jigmaster. After a few comments relating to the inferior size of his tackle he put on a 300gm knife jig and screwed down the drag. NOw Munners is not a small boy at 110kg can put some serious hurt on with this gear. BUT, he had not reckoned on the sambo from hell hitting him. He was in pain, and due to my previous insinuation about men who let sambo take drag must have small willy, he refused to back it off. End result was his loop knot splitting at the leader. He then did what all true men would, and retied and dropped back down. We proceeded to pull up a heap of AMberjack, YTK and sambos. At one stage he was skull draggin a skippy that would have gone 3-4kg and we could see a massive Sambo trying to eat it the whole way up - insane.

Finally the seriola clan wnet off the chew, but it was 2 hours of the best fishing I have seen iff perth.

We then went hunting for a feed, as I was keen to try a new Bay Rubber jig I picked up from Bluewater. First drop in about 40m and I had a lovely Queen snapper of about 4kg. We went on to pick up a heap of skippy until I tried my luck over a very reefy lump and got onto a fish that I could not control on 20lb and got busted off. The southerly was well in by then so we called it a day.

I made a conscious choice to fish light all day, and ended up outfishing munners which is very rare. 20lb leader and PE 1.5 main was great, and if you are wondering if the new Runbber jigs work, the answer is a definite yes. I can't wait to get another one and work out how to use them better.

yesterday's bash

Went out to the Containers with Simo yesterday,we met Bouttime,Jody and Sam at the ramp so headed out in tandem,The Sambos were being a bit fussy out there,Sam as always was on to the fish first,I lost count how many fish he caught and released but every time we looked over at the good ship Bouttime Sam was loaded up,Simo was the first on his boat to hook up on to a Sambo on bait,I persisted on Jig and after our 5 drift was finally rewarded with a decent sized Sambo. There were a couple of charter boats out there that were not doing too well the odd fish caught here and there. The highlight of the day was when a pretty big mako came cruiseing around the boat after it had just bitten one of Sams Sambo's in half.
We then headed in to the 70 metre where we caught a couple of undersized dhuie's,scorpion cod,and Simo was fortunate to catch a Bonito.
Overall the fishing was a bit slow but the weather fantastic, the company good and as they say a bad days fishing is better than a good day at work.
Thanks for taking me out Simo

who went out today

gidday all anyone get out today ?? how was it did u do any good?? cheers craig

This spring would have had to be one of the best for bottom fishing in a long time. Seems like fish were everywhere, heaps of dhuies about! Does anyone else have the same opinion?

Neap Tides

I have a question about neap tides. For places like Exmouth and Mackerel Islands is it better to fish when there is neap tides?
