Jiggy

Have been doing a bit of searching around and I know Samsons aren't overly fussy buggers, taking spanners & the likes.
But if you were to have ONLY two jigs in your kit, & price was not an issue, which off the shelf ones would they be and what colour would you choose??

There are so many on the racks, I'm getting buyers confusion.

Cheers
Jody

SW inland Fishing help?

Ok guys,

The possibility is that over the xmas new years break, I may be able to head down south for a few days, however, my wife and her family usually go down to a lake to camp every year near arthur river (wagin sorta proximity)... just wondering what estuaries and fisheries would be closest to this place to go fishing in... for bream or trout or whatever is around to flick lures at...

Anyone know much about the esturine systems down there and where abouts they are located, lakes or rivers, mainly landbased...

suggestions would ROCK!

thanks guys!

dacron vs braid?

does anybody knows the up and down side of a dacron vs a fully braided line??

i found out that dacron is not suitable for spinning? apart from that i wouldnt know anything else?

can anybody help me ?

New reel

Picked up a new Penn Affinity 4000 from Oceanside yesterday. What a sweet little reel. Met Honshu. Nice guy, great shop. Any suggestions for a light spinning rod to match up with the Penn anyone. Didn't get a chance to ask Honsu as I had to race off to an appointment at the Australian Marine Complex. I don't if anyone has been there lately, but that would be one, great, landbased fishing spot. Only trouble is, with the navy seting up there in a big way, I don't think there is anyway you are going to get to fish off the groynes there. There of hundreds of metres of groynes, dropping straight into 11 metres of water. Must be something in there. the Regards Colin Hay

woodman point l/b fishing

hey people...i was fishing at woodman point today...was using mulie....miss a stingray of about 10kg as i could already see it on the surface...but did'nt have enough time to get the net....my dad could not make it to the car to get the net.....than about an hour later...another big hit...calling it to be a shark...as it snapped my line right away.....and about 2hrs later the biggest hit i ever had.....tookmy bait and ran about 70m and then i got the hook up...than it pulled about 200m of my banax reel.....on tight drag...calling it to be a very big mulloway .......and it went on and on...after about 40mins of pulling and running....about 40 m away from me...it snapped my 30lb line....and damn i was pissed..

Cockburn Sound Crab Closure extended

Cockburn sound crab closure has been extended for another 12 months.

FADs on Monday??

Thinking of heading out to the FADs on Monday for a look see.  Anyone want to tag along?

Bundegi Boat Ramp

"This project has experienced some delays due to adverse findings from a recent geotechnical investigation which confirmed that the rock layer was much deeper than the initial external report had indicated. This has resulted in an engineering re-design incorporating an additional 12 piles and a subsequent price variation. The good news is that the Department of Planning & Infrastructure have now endorsed the project variations and therefore the project is now back on track with work likely to commence in a matter of weeks, subject to any limitations such as cyclone season. It is however anticipated that the piles will be installed by January 2008 and the decking shortly after."

Catching and caring for released Samson fish

The Samson Science research project has created protocols aimed at maximising the survival of fish to be released by anglers. These protocols have been developed from fishing activities over the last few years from the spawning aggregations:-

Please download and read the brochure before heading out Samson fishing this season. Remember that these fish are spawning and need to be carefully handled and released to ensure the future of one of our iconic sport fisheries.

Just thought I'd put it out there and see what everyone is planning to do / target over the weekend.

Have a good one guys n gals.

mindarie

ok well havent been out from mindarie yet i drove up for a look at the ramp the other day and it looks pretty good, the only thing is i would take its a pretty busy ramp on a weekend? also, whats the go with heading out, looks like there might be a few reefs around, is there any leading lines etc to head out or to follow any paths, also if you were heading out from mindarie what would be the best direction to fish and what depth atm

No bling reel

After the disaster of having the drag fail on my reel last night I popped down the road to buy something a bit tougher. Picked up a Banax iso 7000. This is a no bling reel if I wever saw one. No gold paint, just a plain metal colouring. At least I won't have to worry about scrathcing it on the rocks.
I have heard these are pretty tough reels and the sales chap rated it pretty highly. It will should certainly keep me going until Santa brings my Shimano baitrunner.
Anyone have any knowledge on these reels. All input appreciated.
Regards Colin Hay

FADS

I was just wondering when the fads will be out, or are they already out there?

Lots Of little Black Butts

We went out thursday and all of our spots in this one area were full of little baby black arse, from 15cm up to 30cm and only a few bigger ones.  As soon as you bait was on the bottom it was getting hammered by them, hopefully good signs for the future.

Pic of the biggest

Dean

p.s.  Cheers Ryan for showing the dropper loops, used the rigs yesterday and worked great (no tangles), getting the hang of tying the knots aswell, will be down you way in a few weeks probably

Chasing a deckie spot - loosing the boat

Looks like we're upgrading, the boys are detailing the boat on Sat, and will be on the market for Sunday. Their timing sucks! Weather looks great.

Sooooooo, looking for a deckie spot for the weekend, and probably for the next few weeks until we find a jem, chip in for all the usuals. don't mind if its NOR or SOR.

Cockburn crabs stock still needs more recovery time!

Media Releases Cockburn crabs stock still needs more recovery time Date: Thursday, 22 November 2007

Fisheries Minister Jon Ford has extended the closure on recreational and commercial crab fishing in Cockburn Sound for a further 12 months to allow stocks to rebuild after several years of poor recruitment.

“Research advice indicates that although blue swimmer crab stocks have started to recover in the Sound, breeding stocks and recruitment remain at low levels,” Mr Ford said.

“The quickest way to allow stocks to rebuild is to extend the current closure for 12 months.

“Department of Fisheries researchers will continue to monitor the recovery of crab stocks in Cockburn Sound and I will review further scientific data and advice late next year to consider whether crab fishing can recommence.“

Mr Ford said the Carpenter Government had committed significant funding towards blue swimmer crab research in both Cockburn Sound and the Peel Harvey Estuary and the findings would help guide management strategies to keep stocks sustainable.

“Now that we’ve started down the road to recovery and the signs indicate we are heading in the right direction, we should give the crabs in Cockburn Sound a little longer to rebuild their numbers,” he said.

“If we keep the fishing pressure off the crab stocks in the meantime, this will help speed up the recovery.

“Once the blue swimmer crab numbers return to reasonable levels, our goal is to keep the stocks sustainable through careful ongoing management strategies.”

The Minister said his decision to reduce the bag and boat limits for blue swimmer crabs across the rest of the West Coast Bioregion (extending from Black Point, east of Augusta, to the Zuytdorp Cliffs, north of Kalbarri) was also an important step for sustainability.

“As of November 1 this year, the daily bag limit of blue swimmer crabs in the West Coast Bioregion for recreational fishers has been reduced to 10 per fisher and the boat limit is now 20,” Mr Ford said.

More details about the new rules for blue swimmer crab fishing in the West Coast Bioregion are available from the Department of Fisheries website http://www.fish.wa.gov.au
