Stolen Gear: Perth 26/5
Submitted by till on Tue, 2008-05-27 11:04
The following was stolen from my house yesterday afternoon;
Nitro Innovator Surf Assassin 12'
Shimano Stradic 6000FI
Id brought it back from the North Mole yesterday, and washed it. It was in my (walled off) front yard and not visible from the street. Its spooled with a 25lb fluorocarbon leader, uniknotted to 5-10m of yozuri hybrid 20lb, then albright to Stren Microfuse in glacier blue, 20lb. Pretty sure there is still that bit of protective clear plastic on the handle still, it goes on the last bearing, so you don't scratch anything with it. Anyone follow that?
Reward offered, PM for my mobile, and just call me if you see it in a cashie or at the mole or whatever.

Modern Day fishing website!
Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 2008-05-26 20:19Well after so much that has happened lately i feel i need to say my bit.
I appluade Adam and the FishWrecked mods in what is a hard task (been there) and to the FW members that make this Modern Day Website happen. With the Fisheries trying to put more & more pressure on us and we individuals living hectic lifestyles we still find the time to ask/share/show & tell fishing stories.
Seems that to some catching/killing and sharing pictures is frowned upon but to me its life & reality also and to preach to the converted or semi converted is no good......JMO
Again, just a well done Adam & FW, often ppl are happy to have a go but rarely do ppl stand up and say well done when fit!

Things wot numpty fisherman do!
Submitted by Willy on Mon, 2008-05-26 19:04Bit quiet, so I thought I would start this thread.
Whilst living in Victoria, we bought some fish and chips and decided to eat them down by the Mornington boat ramp.
A brand new BMW was pulling a brand new fibreglass boat. The proud owner, with his trophy wife in the boat reversed down the ramp and put the boat in the water. He tried pushing the boat off the trailer to no avail. I asked if he needed help, but the hero declined. I suggested unclipping the safety chain and the winch. He then decided this was a good idea. So with his wife in the boat holding the painter, he was able to then launch his pride and joy into the harbour. Imagine his surprise when he realised the motor wasn't started, his wife didn't know how to start the boat and a boat which was left to drift off.
Can't remember how he salvaged this situation, but I do recall it being funny at the time. I have always enjoyed the action around a boat ramp and have seen many unusual launches, especially the ' Go flat out, slam on the brakes and watch as your boat first hits the concrete and then slides gracefully into the water'.
Anyone else?
Cheers

Sinker rip off's
Submitted by tailor marc on Mon, 2008-05-26 12:57Started to notice this about 6 months ago at last resort locations like servo's deli's.
Sinkers are unussualy shiny and when you hold them they are lighter than they are spose to be.
Its allmost as if they are cutting down the lead with tin (solder) to make more $$$ or they are using solder to make sinkers!!
To be honest i dont really care paying the same or a little more for 100% lead but it sucks when you buy some star sinkers of the normal size you have allways bught only to have them not hold the bottom or cast as far.
Anyone else notice this?

Submitted by eddie on Sun, 2008-05-25 22:34Ok, so my mate and I are heading out tomorrow to do some drift baiting. Looks like a perfect day for it.
only problem is, we don't know where to go!!! We're heading out from Hillary's and will probably be start looking in 30-40m of water.
I'm not asking for gps coords....unless you want to pm me!
But let me know what depth, and many general areas from Hillary's that you would be trying for pinkies/dhuies.
cheers! for helping to rookies who are trying to learn the ropes!

Hillarys was on fire
Submitted by Colin Hay on Sun, 2008-05-25 09:52It was a great morning to be out fishing off the north wall at Hillarys. A bit overcast and a slight drizzle, but only a very light breeze when I arrived there at 5.30 am. Hillarys was on fire, bait fish jumping around and my baits were getting hit as soon as they hit the bottom. I ended up keeping two big trevally and releasing another seven and five tarwhine.
Only wish I hadn't have been slack and stopped to watch some of the cricket from the West Indies as I think I only arrived for the tail end of the action.
Hope everyone else had a successful day,
All the best, Colin Hay

Submitted by DK on Sat, 2008-05-24 17:21Hey guys..
just came back from north mole aiming for some luck but had no luck..did u guys know whether the left side of north mole is more productive or the right side?coz last yr when i was there, people were putting their rods on the left side and managed to get a few but tis mornin, most of them were on the right and a fisho caught a decent ones..and it was westerly winds..so i dont see why they didnt fish on the left...

SWISS GOVERNMENT TO BAN ‘CATCH AND RELEASE’ FISHING
Submitted by Tim on Sat, 2008-05-24 15:34Did anyone else see this. http://www.eftta.com/english/news_indepth.html?cart=&SKU=2047259523
Swiss government is going to ban people from deliberate C&R fishing. Wording is "it is not permitted to go fishing with the 'intention' to release the fish."
And anglers in the country will have to demonstrate their expertise by taking a course on humane methods of catching fish. (Not such a bad idea this bit).

Rod Tips
Submitted by Hank on Fri, 2008-05-23 16:08G'day all.
Would like your thoughts regarding boat rod tips, roller or eye? Maybe the merits of both. Most of my fishing is bottom bouncing using overhead reels. I use full rollered rods for trolling. Thanks guys.

Halco Max
Submitted by Stevef on Fri, 2008-05-23 14:45Has anybody had a go trolling with the new Halco Max lures yet. I was thinking they might be the shot for trolling when moving between spots when you want to go a bit quicker than 6-7 knots. Maybe a spread with some Xmas Trees and the Max swimming below.
I bought one the the Bluewater F18 in the smaller size the other day and they swam really well at around 8 knots but the water was flat calm and I reckon they would start to blow out at that speed in some rougher water.
Any feedback or ideas would be great
Cheers Steve

Shore-based fishing at Lancelin
Submitted by Colin Hay on Fri, 2008-05-23 12:13I am thinking about making a trip to Lancelin to do a bit of fishing. I wonder if anyone has had much experience shore-based fishing there and if they know of any good spots to toss a line. Unfortunately I don't have 4wd, so I will be a bit restricted. Any suggestions on good places to stay would be welcome too.
Many thanks, Colin Hay
