AMAZING THING IVE EVER SEEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the way back from quoting a job in Beeliar today, myself and my misses were cruizing up the freeway just before (about 1km) mounts bay road i was happening to look out into the river when i seen the biggest river frenzy ive ever seen!

Ill pulled sraight over to the umusement of my wife to see a large school approx 80m across getting smashed up by 2 large bull sharks at about 5 feet long!

The school of fish where hard to identify but they looked to be large mullet, the 2 sharks were circling the school around and around and then swooping in for a bite or two! All this was happening in about 1metre of water and about 5 metres from the shore! I jumped the fence and watched this for 15minutes in shock as the sharks where almost beaching them selves to get a feed then it went slowly further out and i couldnt see.

Even my misses was amazed by it and she hit the nail on the head when see said that "god i bet you wish you had a camera"!

HELL YEAH! Bluddy awsome!

Wet weather gear

With long range predictions suggesting it is going to rain everyday for the next two weeks at least - except next Wednesday. It is time to get the wet weather gear out.

Does anyone have a particular type of wet weather apparel they prefer.

For fishing from the rocks and beaches I definately prefer a jacket that is not too bulky so I still have freedom to cast.

I am thinking of buying a steamer or something similar for winter beach fishing sessions. Has anyone had experience using wetsuits in this manner?

Many thanks, Colin Hay

bonito?

hey guys does anybody know whether bonitos are around at the mole already?

LB berley question

I've got some questions about using berley when fishing from land.

What is the best most effective method from rock walls/groynes?

Is it useful to berley while beach fishing?  if so, how do you go about it?

please, be specific and don't be afraid to state the obvious, I'm very new to saltwater fishing.

THanks!

Saturday Fish Help

I've been fishing around GI & Carnac with mixed results & looking to try somewhere else, anyone got any tips on where would be a good place to launch & search for some new ground to bottom bounce? Have a fish finder but my dilemma at moment is a) no navigational gps & b) no offshore flares so limited to not going out wide :(

If any deckies know some good ground & looking to get out let me know

Bunbury Crabs

Went out in the Bay of Bunbury this morning the water was smoothe as silk cloudy sky a big thunder storm coming in from the West put our Crab nets out and trolled along the old Wooden Wharf plenty of fish on the sounder but no strikes on the Gold Twisty. We managed 2 nice size Hering before we decided to pull the nets. First pull we got 3 under sized which went back then the rain came down there was lightning thunder rain but no wind, rain was falling straight down it was nice on the water but it felt real eerie. The rain stoped so we checked the nets again we got 2 keepers the Crabs were very scarce I thought I would at least pick up a dozen. After more rain and 3 hours of trying we called it quits we had just 3 size Crabs which we put back as it was'nt worth the efort to boil the water. I'm heading out deep in a couple of days to target bigger fish so I hope things will be better in the fish department.

Cheers Kev

Does anyone know where I can get or have some fiberglass poles or old surf rods that I can buy to make a set of short outriggers? I have a set of bases that have a 32mm ID.

Thanks

dickhead beach drivers

gday people diff here and not very happyYellwhile on holidays down south cheynes beach (very nice place to stay),i love driving on the beach looking for salmon and other spieces, as some people would know cheynes beach is slowly but surely dissapearing, so its starting to become a little harder to get on to bluff creek which it is the bottom end of cheynes alot softer so we have to take it easy getting on and staying on other peoples tracks when possible ,so why would a bunch of dickheads go on there to cut the f--- out of the beach and make it inpossible to drive on the beach when there is only very little beach left,to those people unless your looking to have a fish  or just like driving on the beach with the boys or your family stay the f--- away you will wreck it for everyone and they will  end up closing the beachs for good just like perth beaches

New management study

This was released by the CSIRO yesterday

Science solves puzzle of marine management

CSIRO’s Wealth from Oceans National Research Flagship and the Western Australian Government have developed practical tools to help planners manage potentially competing uses of Australia’s marine ecosystems.
10 April 2008
The Federal Minister for Industry, Innovation, Science & Research, Senator the Hon Kim Carr, and the Western Australian Minister for Environment, the Hon David Templeman MLA, will launch the North West Shelf Joint Environmental Management Study (NWSJEMS) today in Perth.
NWSJEMS project leader, CSIRO’s Dr Scott Condie, said this research was vital because coasts and oceans worldwide are being exposed to growing pressure from increasing population and industrialisation.

"Our team developed a sophisticated model that allows users to envisage different development scenarios and management options, and comprehensively evaluate their potential impacts on marine ecosystems,” Dr Condie said.

“The study found that the North West Shelf environment is in good condition, but will need to be carefully managed to cope with the current industrial expansion. NWSJEMS provides the scientific tools to enable this.

“The sophisticated techniques developed for this study are being further improved and can be adapted for any marine ecosystem facing pressures from potentially competing uses.

“Our team developed a sophisticated model that allows users to envisage different development scenarios and management options, and comprehensively evaluate their potential impacts on marine ecosystems,”
Dr Condie said.“They’re already being applied to the Ningaloo Marine Park to make the next benchmark in modelling tools for marine managers, and are being used in south-eastern Australia.”

Minister Carr said the study was a good example of the importance of collaboration and how major national challenges can be tackled.

“The study delivers real tools for planners to tackle the complex issue of managing the impacts of multiple human activities on the Australian marine and coastal environment so as to reap social and economic benefits, while maintaining environmental integrity,” Minister Carr said.

“The project is a powerful example of how collaborations between federal and state agencies, working hand-in-hand with industry, the community and local government, can develop innovative approaches to our major national challenges.”

Minister Templeman said the study was important to Western Australia on several levels.

“Western Australia enjoys a magnificent marine environment and a booming economy. Our Government is committed to sustaining both,” Minister Templeman said.

“The outcomes of NWSJEMS will not only benefit the North West Shelf region, but will also provide a foundation for ensuring sustainable development of other marine ecosystems in Western Australia, around the nation and internationally.”

Industries that rely on the ocean include; oil and gas, mining, shipping, fisheries, aquaculture and tourism. But Australians also treasure the environmental and recreational aspects of our marine ecosystems.

Dr Condie said the impacts of all these uses were interconnected and often wide-ranging.

“So, rather than examining various marine issues in isolation, our team took an holistic approach, linking all the key elements of the natural and human system and integrating the impacts of different marine uses,” he said.

The A$7.7 million study was initiated by the Western Australian Government and jointly funded by the Wealth from Oceans National Research Flagship. Many organisations contributed to the NWSJEMS project, including federal and WA agencies, industry and regional communities.

dickhead boaties!!!!!!!!

righteo just to clear things up this is not a sledge at all boaties just a handfull of dickeads that need to learn a bit of etticut.
salmon fishing at wyadup beach sunday the salmon schools were thin to say the least and very spooky . upon this observation ive looked at the bright side of i have had a couple of hook ups no boats so it cant get any worse........ WRONG! around the rocks comes what i presume is a local at dunsborough as we have seen him there for the past 4 weekends a white boat full of clowns . the first big school comes swimming past so the knob parks right on top of the school causing them to sink and shy right off. the law states that boats must be 500m off the beach there but these guys seem to have found it in there power to sit no more than 50m from the beach and eliminating the little chance we had of hooking another salmon.
does any 1 else have this problem or am i a bit out of line with this particular winge

Flathead

Hi guys,

Apart from some offshore species, the next
fish I would like to target (and am yet to catch here) is flathead.
I've been down to the claremont jetty twice at dawn on a rising tide
but didnt have much luck (as well as loosing my lure last time Frown ). Also tried around canning bridge twice just before high tide (around dawn and around dusk) and again, no luck.

I'm using a rio prawn, 13gm, casting it out and retreiving it in a
'hopping motion'. I.e. lift rod, wind in, let drop for a second or
three then repeat.

I'm guessing I should be casting
downstream most of the time and retrieving back. I.e. because the tide
is coming in, i'm going with the tide, as I assume the flatties will be
facing that direction, waiting for something to float by.

Wednesday morning is looking good as theres high tide around 9:30am, so
I figure i'll probably fish around 6-8:30am or so, or would this be
cutting it short? I could stick around later, but then i'd want to
start later.

Can anyone recommend some spots where I might
actually have a chance of catching some flathead and not some weed
instead? Alternatively, if anyone wants to go with me, i'm sure that'd
help a lot more  (but I wont hold my breath Laughing)

Flat rock

hey guys

just wandering if any of you could give me an idea as to where flat rock is??

cheers

Bunbury fishing

Hey Fisho's
Im going down to bunbury on wednesday for a week long fishing trip with some friends. Wondering whats being caught there this week. We will be taking the boat aswell. Thanks

Hillarys sunday morning

I popped down for a quick fish at Hillarys yesterday morning. Arrived at at 5.30 am to find I had the whole north wall to myself. The conditions were pretty good and I managed to catch a really good Tarwhine and a nice skippy. Then the blowies came so I headed home.
There certainly were a lot of boats heading out of the harbour to make the best of a good morning. I hope they all had good fortune.
All the best, Colin Hay
