Fishing Clubs
Submitted by terboz123 on Mon, 2015-01-05 09:47Well, im back in NZ and amazingly it was sunnie and 27 yesterday! with remours of the first marlin tagged off NP making me smile even more!
Thought i would bring this up on discussion, Here in nz, i am a member of the New Plymouth Sport Fishing & Underwater Club. Week in week out, they are open wednesday through sunday (weekend lunch period as well) from roughly 3 pm. Cheep piss, Cheep and quality food and good company.
I am more so curious as to why it doesnt happen over in here in WA. I am unsure of regional fishing clubs, and i understand the EGFC does open thurs-sun.
Its a great way to meet crews, and get more involved within the reco fishing industry/fishing club, social times etc etc...
Be interesting here to PGFC thoughts, as i know they are a user on here.
thoughts?

Mandurah Crabbing - More precisely dawesville/Bouvard Way
Submitted by crasny1 on Mon, 2015-01-05 08:08Hi Guys
Quick report. Went out Sat and briefly Sunday and the big blues are certainly in, albeit a little empty so give them a week or 2. The pots was lean but the youngsters jumped overboard and caught most off the big blues scooping the Pinjarra side flats opposite the parkridge ramp. Will post proof but all the blues were at least 10mm over legal with 2 absolute monsters.
For 2 novice kids at scooping they did very very well, but their excited cries dragged a crowd over. I didnt know the range of crab fear profanities could reach this high a level, but the Mrs and I on the boat certainly enjoyed seeing youngsters having a ball.
Drifted the flats but found it much better to have the 2 on Port and starboard side, idling along stirring them up, and then releasing the catchers to chase.
WARNING: if you are going to do this make sure the kids CLEARLY understand that the call "Neutral" has to come first before they abandon ship to chase. I am a bit off a Safety Nazi!!!
Pulled the pots twice for 1 legal size keeper, which we returned as it was tiny compared with the big boys.
Enjoyed a feed of very fresh crab, alfafa sprouts and butter sangas on Saturday, and classic crab and corn "fishcakes" last night -- Yum.
Good luck. From the amount out there it might be a nice season.

can i fish at hilleries or under bridge into perth cbd
Submitted by tassy on Sun, 2015-01-04 20:05i was wondering because it says your not allowed once shops open up.i was also told it is stricktly enforced.
Is this true.?
As for bridge into cbd. Apparently in wa your not loowed to fish on bridges...where as in tassy you can. I am not sure about laws in wa for fishing under that bridge. One coming from armadale direction ( if there is more than one)
Cheers

Finally got a chance to build myself a rod!!
Submitted by barneyboy on Sun, 2015-01-04 19:10Awesome, just finished my new 15kg stick. It is a bit longer than a standard stroker at 6 ft 3in but suits my needs perfectly with a bit more length for clearance around the boat. The pattern is a 4 sided split diamond with a varigated bacground. It was an epic build. 10 hours of chair bound fun.
Now I have just gotta get out there and bend it up.
Fish on!!

King George sound
Submitted by lachieH on Sun, 2015-01-04 17:39hi everyone, after an awesome trip down at Yeagerup beach catching lots of flathead, bream, tailor and salmon (no report unless people want one because not many pics) mum and dad surprised me, saying they had booked a trip to Albany near the end of the holidays. I won't be doing too much fishing because my parents want to have a look around and after a week of fishing non-stop, they reckon that I can fish in Albany but they want to have a look around aswell.
anyway my mum says (like usual) that she wants a feed of fish and after all the fish we took back from Yeagerup, she is thinking that she wants more fish. So this means that I have also set myself a challange, to catch a King George Whiting in the King George Sound. I just want a reliable spot that I could hopefully come home with a few fish, nothing that needs a 4x4 (I have never been so don't know is some parts of the sound is 4x4 only).
so if anyone has a suggestion, please say. I also want to know a good rig? Is something like a paternoster rig with whitebait gangs and whitebait good? Also is a star sinker good? I know I have asked lots and lots of questions but I only have 1 more. How far should I cast? I am not the best at casting but I can get just below an average cast of an experienced beach fisherman when I'm at my best.

Submitted by crowie on Sun, 2015-01-04 14:00Gday Guys
I'm heading down to esperance for aussie day and im taking the boat (7 meter hard top) and was looking for some advice as to where anybody can recommend for both bottom species and top species like the bluefin tuna that i'd love to get. I have had some advice from a few others on a different site but i thought i may as well ask on this one too. Any advice would be great
Thanks
Which day
Submitted by Dirt on Sun, 2015-01-04 11:56 Monday or Tuesday, what are people's thoughts. Tuesday looks better in the morning but has the potential to get messy pretty quick around lunchtime plus has some northerly winds in the morning. In my experience it can normally be a little messy with northerly winds. Monday dosnt drop down as much but dosnt get above 14 knots all day. Easterly heading out and southwest winds coming home. At this stage I'm leaning towards tomorrow. What Is everybody else thinking

Need some advice on gear
Submitted by Mayfly on Sun, 2015-01-04 00:32I plan on buying some new gear in the future so I did a bit of research to try and find the best set up for me.
I've been mostly targeting bread and butter fish in the river and want to start targeting bigger fish such as mulloway and snapper.
I'll mostly be fishing landbased in the river for the mulloway and the north mole during winter to hopefully land a snapper and maybe beach fishing every now and then.
Would this setup suffice?

3 must-have lures for yellowfin tuna
Submitted by Notorious on Sat, 2015-01-03 22:52So I have accepted the fact that shooting one is near on impossible. So trolling for YF tuna is the only option, what are the 3 lures I must have to give me a decent chance? I have no idea about trolling.

Coral Bay advice
Submitted by Hambo on Sat, 2015-01-03 08:54Hi Guys Im after advice for fishing from my boat around coral bay. I know its a bad time of year due to wind but Im taking the mrs and kids there for a holiday for 7 nights mid to late Jan anyhow and didnt want to leave the boat behind, fingers crossed I jag a day without wind. Im after advice on some places to start looking/sounding around keeping in mind I might have limited time before the wind does pick up each day so the earlier I can get into some fish the better. Will be heading out of north passage in my 6.1m tub. Any advice on ground would be much appreciated not asking for co-ords on anyones favourite lumps ect would just like to pick up a couple of reds for the trip to chuck in the freezer after the 16hour treck up there. Cheers fellas. Anyone in coral bay from the 17th - 24th of Jan stop by and say hi and have a beer.

Any good fishing holes with easy access
Submitted by tassy on Fri, 2015-01-02 18:57Does anyone know of a good spot to fish by chance that has one of those concrete pontoon sorta platforms so u don't have to climb on rocks . I have arthritis these days from life at sea so I can't really climb round on rocks these days.
I have spent some tie on google maps an will slowly check them all out. But some bonified fish holes would be great. Ii have some beach ones to try already but I prefer to stand out above water.
Cheers

Live bait
Submitted by Fraser 5.25 on Fri, 2015-01-02 17:12I fish out of Garden Island and the other week, I thought that I would try live baiting as I've got a live bait tank on my boat and I thought that it may as well get used for what it was meant for. I was catching whiting and butter fish and would put the alive fish on a single dropper paternoster rig. I've had more luck with using the butter fish as the whiting don't seem to kick too much and quite a few times, I've put down a whiting only to pull it up with the bottom jaw chewed off and missing and a dead livey. The first time I caught a nice sized dhu and a few sambos as they seem to be in close at the moment and again once more since and had some more fun with the sambos. Generally, the only live bait with success is the butter fish. My question is, are scallies or yellow tail a seasonal fish to catch locally around Garden Island and do they congregate in certain spots or depths? I would like to try using different bait fish to use as live bait.
Thanks,
Ken.

Crabbing harvey estuary
Submitted by joycey on Fri, 2015-01-02 07:52Hi all,
Hoping to go crabbing in boat this Sunday in Harvey Estuary. Winds in morning going to be 15knots South to Southeasterly. Is this wind ok for dropping crab nets in estuary?
Also not sure whether to use Dawesville or Parkridge boat ramp, which is better for launching / retrieving.
Cheers,
Joycey
