Sydney fella is heading over to WA for his first time! My gear sorted sound good?
Submitted by bradizle on Thu, 2014-02-13 09:09Hey guys well Ive decided to spend a week in WA fishing! Not sure which charter to take yet... I want to go jigging, flick plastics for species and maybe try for some small gts on stickbaits ... I'm not bringing any dedicated popping gear... my big egrell can suffice.. its a serious stick... like a nitro godzilla sort of...
The gear I'm bringing is only two reels.
Morethan Branzino 3000 loaded with Tasline 20lb (breaks at 32lbs). on an egrell s10 for light plastic work and loads of fun
and a SALTIGA 2010 4500 loaded with 50lb (300M) braid with a 7 foot egrell 8-15kg "Bear essential for deep plastics, poppers, stickbaits on the reefs and trolling big minnows and trolling up some big spanish or black jews"
I want to do a few things while im up there but have no idea where to start? leader to bring and what plastics ? size jigheads? and maybe some big poppers for reef species and a handful of jigs for the amberjacks....
2 reels. 3 Rods. and a whole lotta lures.
Anyone also recommend any charters ? I perfer just to fish by myself with the guide to be honest... Trying a few different things throughout the day...
bring the big fish on!

Marine Parks
Submitted by Rick Mazza on Thu, 2014-02-13 07:18Hi All,
Looking for some feed back on what people think of Marine Parks and the proposal to declare more (Kimberley), do they serve an effective conservation purpose, is there value to the community or can the cost of managing marine parks be better spent on fishery management. What are the long term effects to rec fishos?

Albany deep sea fishing
Submitted by Piggy on Wed, 2014-02-12 18:07Hi fishos
I have been searching the site for info on deep sea fishing in Albany but can only find minimal information. I am hoping that someone might be able to tell me a bit of information? I have looked on navionics and there doesnt seem to be too much reef structure ect around so I was wndering if anyone could tell me where to find ground and what sort of ground I should be looking for? I know in Perth I look for bombies and big ground, but when we go out in bunbury I look for flat corals so I was wondering what to look for? Also do you still get dhuies ect there?
Any info would be fantastic
Cheers

Queensland Petition
Submitted by Mick C on Mon, 2014-02-10 20:07Hello,
I received the bottom email from a good mate, and beach fishing partner, of mine in Queensland today. In essence, he wants as many people as possible to sign a petition to stop/modify commercial netting of migrating schools of fish just near the beach on Moreton Island. I added a first-hand account of my experience with this practice north of Noosa, as also set out below.
I am certainly not an advocate of banning commercial fishing, just sensible management in certain places that have a high recreational fishing value. I believe this may have been done in WA in the past?
It would be appreciated if you could have a look at the information and if you consider it worthwhile, help him out. I understand there is a minimum number of “signatures” required to get it heard in Parliament.
Thanks.
Mick

Hello,
Attached is a photograph of commercial fishing near Double Island Point recently.

It was during the school holiday period where recreational fishing (mums, dads, kids and mates) was at a peak. I am sure the catch from these people would have been a fraction of the “net full”, and unfortunately the recreational catch was fairly poor over the period.
It was really depressing to see the amount of dead juvenile fish just discarded back into the surf as the commercial guys couldn’t take undersized fish (understandably). Unfortunately, most of the young fish didn’t survive due to the time taken to clean the net and the only beneficiaries were the packs of sharks that came in close to the beach, in the middle of school holidays, to “clean up” the by-catch.
Regards,
Michael
*************************************************************************************************************************************************
Hi all,
I have visited Moreton Island a few times, and love the natural beauty of the place. A significant part of the allure has been the beach fishing on the Island. Over the past 10-15 years the fishing has progressively become worse on the island and it is a common belief that the commercial netting of the migrating schools of fish is the major contributor to the decline in fish being caught.
I would appreciate 2 minutes of your time to sign a QLD Government e-petition to stop or at least reduce Commercial fishing over at Moreton.
For those of you who have been to Moreton and seen the commercial fishermen off the beach, you will know how frustrating it is to watch the netters shoot a net around a school of whiting whilst you have none in the bucket. Don’t start me on the wastage of by-catch and juvenile fish dying on the beach etc. etc.
Click on the link below and it will take a few minutes to sign this, and hopefully Moreton can get back to being a haven for recreational fishermen.
http://www.parliament.qld.gov.au/work-of-assembly/petitions/e-petitions
This petition closes on 28th Feb’14 – no time to waste.
We have the opportunity to lobby the government to ban the commercial fishing on the island. This will relieve the pressure on the fish stocks and in a few short years return the island to being a viable location to catch a few fish and to teach our own kids to fish.
Please feel free to forward this email to anyone you think may support this cause.
Thanks
John C

No luck yet
Submitted by Hutch on Mon, 2014-02-10 17:16Hey guys,
I've been soaking baits for quite a while now in the hope that something decent might have a go (hoping for a mulloway). I have tried various locations and techniques and just not hooking up. I have tried snelled circles, snelled j-hooks, leaving my reel in freespool, securing rod in a holder with a tighter drag, letting the fish run with the bait, striking as soon as the bait gets picked up and various whole, live and cut baits. Only had one hookup to date which I think was a shark that stripped around 200m of line in no time before busting me off on boat moorings. Just wanted to know if I'm doing something obviously wrong or do I need to just keep putting in the hours? Any advice is much appreciated and will be taken on board.
Many thanks
Hutch

Jigging or soft plastic ?
Submitted by joycey on Mon, 2014-02-10 15:07Hi guys,
Going to give jigging and soft plastics ago for some metro demersals ( if it ever stops being windy ! )
Set myself up with jigging and soft plastic outfit.
Just wondering how you decide whether to fish a soft plastic or jig. Are there certain situations/conditions/depths where one method is preferable to another.
I fish anywhere from 10m behind Garden Island to mid 40's south of Rottnest.
Cheers for any advice,
Joycey

Shimano TLD 10
Submitted by JimmyG on Mon, 2014-02-10 13:01Hi Guys
I've got a couple or TLD 10's sitting in the garage that I am thinking of setting up for metro trolling.
I was thinking of running 10kg mono on a 10-15kg rod?
I bought these reels sometime ago and never got around to using them, do you think they will be up to the task?
Any input or suggestions welcome.
Cheers
Jim

Smile on your dial Monday
Submitted by sunshine on Mon, 2014-02-10 12:45Getting Older:
When I was ready to check out and pay for my groceries the cashier
said,"Strip down, facing me."
Making a mental note so I could complain to my local police about this
running amok security rubbish, I did just as she had instructed.
After the shrieking and hysterical remarks finally subsided, I found out
that she was referring to how I should position my debit card.
Nonetheless, I've been asked to shop elsewhere in the future.
They need to make their instructions a little more clear for seniors.
Man, I hate this getting older stuff
