Yellow fin tuna?
Submitted by wrappa on Wed, 2013-11-13 22:47Hi. Looks like the weather is going to be kind to us on sunday and looking at heading out to the trench for some trolling and a look around. Probably a little early but has anyone heard any tuna being sighted or caught or should we just stay out the back of rotto jigging for sambos? Having the opening day for PGFC this weekend hopeing to see a few boats out wide for some good info.

Overhead or big reel?
Submitted by RobSkippy on Wed, 2013-11-13 22:47I am considering a new combo to fight the bigger species for boat fishing and looking for advice. Can not really decide whether to go for:
- an overhead or a big reel combo;
- braid or mono;
- line rating?
I will use the combo for setting out unweighted bait and have a lighter combo for bottom bouncing.
Also interested in what would be a good buy around the 200 dollar mark. Any advice appreciated!

twinfisher 4.6 /4.9
Submitted by Boppo on Wed, 2013-11-13 11:42Anybody here have a Webster Twinfisher in the 4.6 or 4.9m? Seen a few 5.2 but after the smaller size. Keen just to have a close look at one before going any further.
Which site do you believe
Submitted by Poppy on Wed, 2013-11-13 11:21After 5 months of doing up the Craigie house we bought in June, it looks like I will be able to take the dinghy out to catch a few whiting on Sunday. Seabreeze showqs that winds will be gentle at around 5-6 knots until the middle of the day. I did a check on Willy Weather and that site shows that winds will be more like 16 knots. How can there be such a difference? My tub is an older (much older) Pongrass of about 14.5 feet and not as wide as the newer boats, so I have to be pretty careful of conditions. Also, I'm new to the Ocean Reef/Hillaries area and don't know where all the reef structures are.
Any views on Sunday and the expected conditions will be helpful.
Thanks
Baz

landbased fishing tours
Submitted by tangles on Wed, 2013-11-13 10:02So been crunching numbers and ideas for a while now and am in the process of organising to set up a landbased fishing tours business out of kalbarri from frustrations north to the emu fence which is 30mile north. there will be full day tours and also overnight camping fishing tours available. All gear will be supplied and i will only be catering for maximum 5 people on the tour as not to upset a few of the local crew that do fish up the coast. 5 people is also easier to monitor especially when fishing from the rock ledges up north. There will be landbased ballooning for mackerel as well during the season when weather conditions are suitable. Just trying to get an idea of how many people on here would be interested in the idea of going on a landbased fishing tour up here. The vehicle will be a polaris 6 seater which is easier to have everyone on board instead of having seperate quad bikes. This will be a dedicated landbased fishing only. I know that landbased fishing is very popular and a different avenue than going on a charter boat.
The overnight camping will be full camping facilities with swags supplied and meals, toilet n shower setup.
If this does go ahead i will be coming on board here as a site sponsor. Just putting it out there to see what interest can be generated from people on here. I know there are alot of guys on here that love their landbased as much as i do! It will be all year round and depending on weather and swell conditions is where the tours will run to but it will have a 28-30 mile stretch that can be used.
thanks Tangles

Bag Limit of Herring to be cut.... Oh Noes
Submitted by Karak on Tue, 2013-11-12 14:55au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/wa/19782808/herring-bag-limit-to-be-cut/
Catch limits for herring - one of WA's most popular recreational fishing species - could be slashed under State Government efforts to combat a dramatic decline in stock numbers.

squid jig storage
Submitted by shortfuse on Tue, 2013-11-12 08:58A little while back I purchase a heap of squid jigs at a heavily discounted price from a local specialist store that was moving. Sorted through to get a good range of different sizes and colours to compliment my existing stock and put them in a large tackle tray minus the original packing.
On the weekend went up to Cervantes for a couple days and headed out for a quick afternoon jig. When I opened the tray all the new jigs are bent like bananas cloth is peeling off and are unusable. Suspect that the plastics used in the squid jig were not compatible with the tray. I was aware that soft plastics can melt in this situation but had not seen squid jigs go like this.
Has anyone else seen this and what do you store your jigs in?
The ones I did not put in the tray are still all fine

Dhuie ban
Submitted by Boppo on Tue, 2013-11-12 05:53Why do fisheries pick these two months instead of any others? Surely the one fish/ two per boat , no take for crayfisherman, pro bans in certain areas is enough and we don't need any ban at all.

Monster Mesh Max - twisting
Submitted by Noxious on Mon, 2013-11-11 22:40G'day
I have a Daiwa Monster Mesh Max.
I like the rod itself. Lately I have noticed that the reel seat has started to twist, so that the reel is not inline with the guides as I am fishing (the reel is off center). I can twist the reel back into a central position, but it will move over a days fishing.
Has anyone else had this problem with these rods? I like the rod itself a lot, but this is pretty annoying. Have only had the rod less than 12months. But it has seen quite a bit of use.
Can anyone suggest how to fix this?
Cheers,
Alex

Super SARCA anchor - best anchor??
Submitted by JW on Mon, 2013-11-11 22:20Needs some advice pls.
I have a 6.7m ali boat. It has the traditional "plow" anchor. I find it hard to use as it does not bite down fast and tends to just drag on its side.
I have been told to get a Super Sarca No 3.
Any advice to the best all rounder anchor?
Cheers,
JW

Protecting your boat from cray pots
Submitted by Piggy on Mon, 2013-11-11 16:54I tried searching but couldn't find anything that relates.
however I'm wondering if and what everyone uses to protect the gunnels on your boat when pulling up cray pots. I have 2 out there at the moment and every time I pull them up I take paint chips out the top of the gunnel. If anyone has the same issue and has got something in place to protect it please let me know!
cheers

ROV Inspection along Mindarie
Submitted by HSSS on Mon, 2013-11-11 15:05So we finally got one our ROV's into the water around the Mindarie Rockwall yesterday. And what did we see?. Not a whole lot unfortunatly.
We inspected about 80m of the outer side wall but came up empty. The footage can be viewed HERE for those interested.
I think the best bet would be to burly up for a while first and then send in the ROV. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Cheers

Best Fishing Headlight
Submitted by crasny1 on Mon, 2013-11-11 11:40I had a nice Birthday not long back an received a a LED Lenser SEO7 headlight as a present.
Now I have over the years had a few but this little lightweight packs a punch IMO.
I certainly noticed the lack of battery pac and new technology since my last few efforts, and I am now in the market to get another one for the fishing buddy.
Just wondered about other if not better opinions as there appear 100s on the net.

land based hillaries?
Submitted by johnjohnthedon on Mon, 2013-11-11 07:43whats the go for fishing hillaries? What do most people target when they head down? I was thinking of going down tonight or tomorrow arvo.
Do people generally fish from the rock wall or the beach? The beach looks like it might be a nice spot for some whiting? Maybe?
Any Info you could give me for fishing this area would be much appreciated!
Thanks!
