Best rig?
Submitted by Stewart on Sat, 2013-09-07 13:29I have been fishing a lot lately using a 2 hook paternoster rig and a slider rig but all I seem to catch is either PortJacksons or sea trumpeter (not complaining as its better than not catching) but I'm not sure weather I should be fishing the bottom or putting a unweighted mueli out on a set of ganged hooks? Any info would be great, I generally fish around shore marks like ocean reef and hillarys. Cheers

Family friendly fishing this arvo
Submitted by Super peg on Sat, 2013-09-07 11:46Hello all, I've managed to talk the extended family into a fishing trip this arvo/dusk, however they haven't exactly fished before and as you all know one good session with fish on the chew and you'll be hooked on this past time we all love, as I never really have fished the metro area for smaller fish e.g whiting small bream, herring and such I'm a bit at a loss as to where to take them.... No offence to the ladies on here but they are all female so I can really take them rock hoping too much,
so my question I pose to the family men on here, where have you taken the family to get them into some fun ? The swell is down atm and the wind also so that's a Plus

Rod for monties trip?
Submitted by Shark B8 on Sat, 2013-09-07 11:08Hi all am off to the monties soon and I am looking for a nice rod to take over there for flicking lures around, something that's going to handle the big GT's. I'm looking into the shimano range but I'm not to sure on which will suit, pairing it up with spheros 1800. Any suggestions or anyone have something laying around they want to get rid of? Chasing something around 7 foot or so. cheers kane

WANTED - abrolhos deckies
Submitted by scotto on Fri, 2013-09-06 13:54...and boats...
the spearfishing club WA Undersea is doing a mothership trip to the Abrolhos, next month October 11th - 13th, and they require 2 more med/large boats + crew to be towed over by the 25m island leader II.
the HUGE mothership can sleep 25 people, carry 4 smaller ( sub 15ft) boats on her upper deck, and can tow 2 larger boats behind. they still require the 2 bigger boats (plus skippers and crews)to tow over, to make the trip viable.
if you've wanted to fish the Abrolhos, but thought your vessel was too small, then this is the trip you want! it is a sleep on the deck/in the cabins of the island leader arrangement, so you don't even have to have a bed on your own vessel. once they get to the islands, everyone gets in their boats and goes fishing/diving. you can even fish/dive off the mother vessel if you don't have a boat/crew.
obviously, this isn't just a spearfishing trip, and it is open to anyone - divers, line fishers, etc. any interest and costs can be directed to http://www.waundersea.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1953
as mentioned, they still require the 2 larger boats plus respective skippers/crews to permit this trip to go ahead.
get on it!

Preston Beach
Submitted by metroLBfisher on Fri, 2013-09-06 00:54Looking at heading up to preston beach sunday, with a few mates. Weather forecast looks to be pretty good so thought we would make the most of it. Just wondering what the weed situation is up there and what the beaches are like to drive on atm?
Might kayak a few bigger baits out see if we can tempt a shark, while having the surf roads out try for some gummys, tailor or if we are lucky maybe even a mulloway
Any info on the area would be much appreciated

Rod for Stradic 5000? HELP PLS
Submitted by Robbo88 on Thu, 2013-09-05 19:06G'day fellas,
For fathers day my boys got me a Stradic 5000 (yeeeoooww) but I don't know what rod to match it with. I was set on the Monster Mesh PE2-4 but after reading Snuffs recent post I'm having second thoughts. I currently have a Stradic 8000 paired with a 7'6 Catalina but I find it a touch to long for the boat.
I will mainly be jigging and bottom bashing with bait for King George and Snapper. I don't want to Re-mortgage the house but I happy to spend a couple hundred and buy something of good quality that will last me years!
Cheers for you're help in advance!

Monster Mash PE 3-4
Submitted by snuffs on Thu, 2013-09-05 09:00Snapped my second Daiwa Monster Mash (overhead) PE3-4 rod in about a month last night chasing snapper. Both broke about 3 guides down from the tip. I acknowledge the Monster Mash are a cheaper rod ($299), but I use them as spare rods stored inside the cabin of my boat when we were not on dedicated fishing trips (and for friends to use). Either way I wouldn't expect this to happen (twice). Both were 6-12 months old and used 1/2 dozen times or so. Anyone had this issue with these rods before. Both rods were kitted up with Daiwa LH30 reels with PE3 braid set on 1/4 drag. So no issues with drag or strain on the rods. Disappointing more than anything. Expect I will move to demon bloods for my spare rods now ...

Tomorrows options?
Submitted by Robbo88 on Wed, 2013-09-04 21:32G'day everyone!
With the light winds tomorrow I'm putting the boat in the water, But I'm unsure what to target due to the swell. I'll have the brother in law and his Mrs as well as my other half and our 2yr old in tow so heading to FFB is out of the question.
I'm thinking we'll heading out mid morning in the Cockburn sound for some squid. Anyone heard whether they are still about? Or maybe Mandurah estuary for some tailor?? Any ideas guys?
Cheers

Montebellos tackle advice
Submitted by ricey on Wed, 2013-09-04 18:24Hey team.
Planning a live aboard charter at the montes next year and wanting some advice on what gear to take as will have to limit, especially if I fly up.
the plan is bottom bounce/ jig two or three days, and two days in dinghies .
question 1
for bottom species, terminal tackle sorted here.
Talica 8 PE 4 or Torsa 30 PE 6? Are sharks the reason to get the torsa out to pull up fish quicker?
question 2
dinghy/ shore fishing.
I have a PE 2 Stella 5000 pe 2-4 demon blood combo jerk. Is this long enough or do I need a 7 to 8 ft rod?
should I go to PE 3?
what lures? Troll, poppers, slices or stick baits?

Binoculars
Submitted by paulbazza on Wed, 2013-09-04 17:34Just wondering what types of binocs people use out on their boats?
I checked these out today http://www.leedervillecameras.com.au/binoculars/sol/sol-hd-8x32-binoculars ,
· 8x optical zoom
· 32mm diameter in lens size
· Nitrogen filled
· Waterproof to 5 metres.
· Bak4 coating on the lenses (Bak 4 is a type of coating on the lens, meaning it is a full multi coated optic, and performs better in low light)
seemed very comfortable and a good fit to my eyes,
very clear image also.

Cockburn Sound help
Submitted by dant on Wed, 2013-09-04 11:46Gday All,
Going to take a couple of POMS out from work next week that are keen to get onto a few fish, thinking about heading out into the sound for the first time (from Freo) thought i would try and keep it as flat as possible as i dont think many of them have there sea legs.
I have never fished in the sound before but looking at the search engine on here and the Navionics app i was thinking of hitting up D9 or maybe out the back of Garden island to FFB
i understand the issue is most of the fishing will be morning and during the day and we might miss out on the pinkies but where do you think the best chances would be to find something for the boys to latch on to?
Worst comes to worse il find some sort of reef out there and send some floaters out, burley up and try and stretch there arms on some sambos.
Thanks again gents as always any help appreciated.
Cheers Dan

Wagoe setup
Submitted by Versus on Tue, 2013-09-03 21:25Spending a week at Wagoe over the new years break, plan to do lots of fishing (obviously) but I think i'm overdue to upgrade my beach combo. Got a Penn 950ss with 10lb mono on an old 12ft $50 job, which casts about 30m with a strong wind at my back. Would like to try ballooning but from doing a little searching on here it seems I'd probably need an overhead setup with a few hundred mtrs of line.
Would a spin reel with lots of line capacity work on the old cheapo rod for ballooning?
Also am considering getting something like a 2nd hand sensor surf to match the 950ss for general beach fishing, thoughts?

it is school holidays and Good Friday is April 18 then as many days off as your work gets for that into the following Friday is Anzac Day and another long weekend.
Great opportunity for a holiday with only a couple of days off work officially.
may want to book your trip early.
