Amberjack off five fathom today
Submitted by bayliner on Sat, 2013-08-24 19:25Headed out to the five fathom off mandurah with a mate of mine thats never been out fishing before, he caught a few wrasse followed by a western australian devilfish and a few trevally, i was wishing for something a bit larger when my prayers were answered..... my wilson venom live fibre rod loaded with a mullie ran off screaming, 10 minutes later after several strong runs emerged this wonderful amberjack, my best fish ever it weighed in at a little over 17 kilos. what a day to remember, needless to say my mate wants to go again very soon. just to confirm guys amberjack or sambo????

Rod building kit
Submitted by Yewiefish85 on Sat, 2013-08-24 08:54Hi guys, I know there are a few guys on here that build rods so I hope you can help, I'm looking at buying a samurai/fuji rod building kit from Motackle, they state on the website that all you need extra to what is in the kit is thread and epoxy
My first question is what type of thread do I need?, also can I epoxy the rod without a rod lathe?
Cheers Yewie

Found a good tackle shop in Bali
Submitted by beeroclock on Fri, 2013-08-23 17:33Gday all - I was in Bali recently and was surprised to find a large fishing tackle shop, Ive been to Bali heaps of times and never seen one till now. Its on the corner of Jl. Raya Kuta and Jl Blambangan (Jl means "straight of" if you didnt know alraedy) its inland about 2 -3$ by taxi from Kuta They sell all sorts of stuff in there, theres literally hundreds of lures, deep jigs cheap etc all different brands lots of brands ive never heard of also cheap cheap.. Best of all they sell all the Rapala brands and they are the real deal not immitations I just stocked up on them for a Coral bay trip in early October (wind permitting). All the usual terminal tackle, rods reel etc If your trying to recover from a big Bintang session from the night before its worth going in there for a look. Prices were around 2/3rds or less the usual perth prices. The pelagic season is coming so if your over there stock up Cheers Dave

dont try this at home kids
Submitted by petermac on Fri, 2013-08-23 17:30trying to find something usefull to do at home I had an idea get all the old bait out of the bait freezer turn it into burley blocks , out the freezer comes 3 old blocks of mullies and some old boxes of squid and bags of prawns into a bucket and start to mash it up with a potato masher , this is hard yakka I thought there has to be an easier way, struck with another idea I get the wife's food processor out the back and start feeding all the bait through it, worked great until wifey got home and saw what I was doing she hit the roof and says she has cut of congical rights and also says she wants a new food processor. So a warning to you blokes out there don't mess with your wife's kitchen tools

Logue Brook Dam
Submitted by Mike17 on Fri, 2013-08-23 13:13I'm planning on taking the family up to Louge Brook Dam for a night or two camping and fishing.
I have never fished in fresh water so am looking for as much advise as i can get. I have read that there are trout and redfin in there?
So what sort of lures or bait, rigs etc. Water depth, troll, anchor, drift are there any structures in the dam?
I will take up the boat so hoefully this will increase my chances of getting something.
Thanks

Safety Bay-Bent Street Ramp. Just about closed in with Tern Island.
Submitted by Moking on Thu, 2013-08-22 18:12Just giving the heads up,as I've seen boats all this week getting stuck when leaving the boat ramp/jetty.
Tern Island has just about closed in on the RH side/corner as you are leaving the jetty, it's that shallow that you will need to get out and push your boat off the weed banks/sand.
Those in the know are turning left(port)when you depart the jetty, and are following in very close along the shoreline until you get past the weed bank, then head out.
I wonder when the so called dredging is going to start?

Anchor Retrieval
Submitted by Ericl on Thu, 2013-08-22 11:45Hi
Putting together a reef anchor retrieval and wanted to use a cheaper clip than the commercial units. Can anyone comment as to whether the unit shown will be strong enough to meet the rigors of being jerked of the bottom
Thanks for any input

Kids want to go fishing
Submitted by EricBananaMan on Wed, 2013-08-21 21:34Gday all. We are in Perth for a couple of weeks and my 5 & 6 year olds keep wanting me to take them fishing EVERY time we drive passed the Swan or a beach. I took them the other day and they were rapped when they kept catching blowies and watching them blow up. Any suggestions where I can take them to get herring or skippy or whiting or anything NOT blowie related? They like taking their catch home with them and were devastated and the tears flowed when I said we cant take blowies home! I await your response. Cheers!

Perth tuna
Submitted by Travis S on Wed, 2013-08-21 21:25Heading out from 2rocks tomorrow, weather looks bloody nice.
Was wondering if anyone has seen any tuna working in the last week or so.
I haven't done a great deal of metro offshore fishing , other places I have trolled a high speed skirt between spots when wide.
i have heard story's of yellowfin in around 60m two rocks way, are the any chance this time of year?
Also any schools of small tuna to throw a slice at or is water too cold.
Any help appreciated
North mole
Submitted by Mad fisherboy on Wed, 2013-08-21 19:35Does anyone know when the north mole opens again?
Also any suggestions on where to go this weekend? Any spots in particular firing? Thnx we are mainly going for tailor or herring.
need a trimmer
Submitted by petermac on Wed, 2013-08-21 19:25I have a humminbird sounder they fit into a cradle that has lots of copper points, as some times I leave the boat on the front lawn I thought I better get a cover made up so the cradle dosent fill up with water (have it covered up with placky bags at the moment) I went to a local trimmer in rocky and he just said Nah to busy to do a little job like that try my opposition up the road , so I did went and saw him and he said ok I will do it I ring you Saturday so you can pick it up , no phone call so went down to his shop and it was all closed up. This brings me to my question are there any trimmers out there that will do a small job that any one knows of??
Took the "Ball n Chain" out fishing today
Submitted by outdoinit on Wed, 2013-08-21 19:13Well it was decided last night that we would hit the water and get some fish back in the Freezer..
We left the marina about 7:30 to a little honey hole just out the back of the reef.
So below is the result of 3 drifts.
First drift seen a double head Dhuie and Black Ass and another bigger Black Ass
Second drift another Dhuie.
Third drift a Baldie..
didn't do a fourth as we had enough to last us a couple weeks so we headed back to have a go for some squid, but didn't get any.
Ps: for anyone thinking we were over our limit, our 4 year old grandie was along for the trip..
