Anyone tried Aquaponics?
Submitted by Braxi on Sun, 2013-08-18 18:21Has anyone on here tried Aquaponics? Ive been looking around at a few setups and might be good to run a couple of Barra in a bathtub or something like that. Good bit of a water feature. Ive seen a couple of varieties now. Pretty cool idea. And you can get some fresh vegies or herbs to put on the barra once they are big enough. Might do some grow and release. See how many I can put back into the water system. Should be able to get them to a decent size to give them a better chance of survival.
Anyone got any photos of their setups or mates setups? To buy one off the shelf they are pretty expensive. Might try and sikaflex the hell out of some pipes and try make my own.

Looking to change to Low Profile Baitcaster- any suggestions???
Submitted by Braxi on Sun, 2013-08-18 18:14G'day,
Im thinking of changing my baitcasting setup for this years barra season to get a bit lighter and better capability to cast a range of lures and SP's. Ive currently got a Cacutta 200B and a Calcutta 400TE. The 400 is an awsome reel for trolling and live baiting but the 200B is a bit of an awkward size. I might look towards the Low Profile reels. Possibly Shimano or, worst case scenario, a Daiwa. Anyone get any recommendations or any one used one of the higher end Low Profile baitcaster?
The Curado seems to be quite a popular reel and being used on some charters it should be able to take a few hits. The Daiwa Zillion with the 7.1:1 wind ratio would be great for a variety of lures, especially around some structure. And it has a pretty good line capacity and decent drag.
Any info is much appreciated.
Cheers.

furuno sounder issues
Submitted by donlovesfishing on Sun, 2013-08-18 01:58hi..was just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same issues. I have a furuno 627 only about 4mths old..It was working great until the other day I went out and switched it on.it came on but wouldn't show the depth, the contours were showing but no bottom. So I turned it off and on a few times and unplugged it a few times then it worked. .but the next few times it did it again. I checked all cables and connections they seem all fine. I have noticed though that wen I first bought it and tested it at hm it made a pulsing sound wen turned on..but the other day I turned it on no pulsing and no bottom reading.does anyone have any ideas that I can try pls..thanks in advance. .cheers don

GOPRO copy feedback wanted
Submitted by tim-o on Sat, 2013-08-17 23:19A few places are selling these copys that look ok for around $130. Comes with various mounts, remote, can flip video after uploading, so I was told, 2.4" touch screen. I dont want to fork out for a hero3 just to get some deck footage and I like the idea of the remote and the screen for playback. Wondering if anyone has any feedback on them, Ill probably buy one anyhow unless a few people say they got one and they were rubbish, cheers

Another boat coming to grief near Carnarvon way back in the 80s
Submitted by Gadsy on Sat, 2013-08-17 17:17This time it was the EWS, an old lugger that was about 100 years old that ran aground south of the Quobba Blowholes beach one morning.
We were having breakfast before going out mackie fishing and saw a flare in the sky south of Black Rock.
She didn't look so good after a couple of bad days of weather unfortunately!

Catching Pike (how?)
Submitted by Butters29 on Sat, 2013-08-17 16:48After seeing the Pike pic on here it sparked my interest.Years a go I remember my old nan&pop used to catch a few out the front of Duns.
I have never tried myself and was wondering if anyone can enlighten me on the best way to catch them? From memory they used to troll with para veins and baits? What are the best water depths, bottom type, trolling speeds etc? Are they any good on the chew?
Any other pearls of wisdom you could pass onto me would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

My PB on a line is only 14kg.
I can remember 20 years ago we caught one off Augusta on a pro boat on a drop line that went 28kg gilled and gutted. I was only about 14 and my old an had a pic on his shed fridge for years but it deteriorated and we couldn't find the negative.
Awesome fish wish it was weighed before being gutted. Anyone elce seen or caught a simalar/bigger.

onslow to monties
Submitted by Pauldarie on Sat, 2013-08-17 10:23morning all
heading to the monties next week (first time). originally we were supposed to haul up to dampier and meet up with some guys from Hedland for the trip across.
(i'd organised a place to leave car/trailer for a week at Karratha)....
however the guys from Hedland have pulled out so now we figure we may as well leave from Onslow.
so i have a few questions for guys whov'e done the islands from Onslow...
-can anyone suggest a place to contact re - leaving car/trailer for a week (or if anyone has a contact up there who likes beer)
-any advice on the course to take from Onslow-Monties / things to lookout for along the way (hazards)
any pointers/general info greatly appreciated
thanks
Paul

Worth heading out wide??
Submitted by Robbo88 on Fri, 2013-08-16 23:02So Sunday is looking like the first day of light winds, according to seabreeze 5 knot southerly and dropping during the day! With this forecast I'm looking for some advise on the conditions out there. Our intentions are to take my 5.8m Genesis and head to one of our marks 45-50km out from the Dawesville Cut nice and early to fish the high tide (6am-9am) and hopefully snag a Dhu or Pinky. I'm unsure if the seas will still be rough after the recent blows? Also what are your thoughts on demersal activity after such weather, will the fish be on the bite or hidden away?
We haven't had any luck fishing for Pinkys or Dhuies and it not due to lack of trying, but this time around we're making sure every box is ticked haha. Any advise on increasing our chance's of catching one of these very common fish will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance fellas!
Robbo
