HUGE Room For Improvement
Submitted by outdoinit on Wed, 2013-03-06 18:55I wonder how many others go out fishing and get a bit wound up in the moment and then forget to take a few decent happy pics???
Had two days out fishing over the weekend and caught some decent fish, but after the dust settled below is what I ended up with... ;-)
Hence why the heading of "HUGE Room For Improvement" Also managed to get half a snap of a decent cray in the bottom left.....

John Dory
Submitted by Super peg on Wed, 2013-03-06 15:32hello all,
during a recent fishing trip with the family, the topic of the ones that got away arose,
my cousion and uncle mentioned a few years ago they caught a large round thing with a black spot and enlongated spines on the dorsal fins, Large head and mouth etc etc, not knowing at the time they released a nice size John Dory and only after they got back home and researched did they realise their folly.
around a year ago i visited the underwater observatory at the end of the busso jetty and was shocked to spot one lazily cruising a sand bed.
ive read these fish are one of the best of the best eating fish in the ocean, but never hear of any one chasing them
so my question here is has anyone caught one and could you release some insight into the targeting of these elusive fish?
light searching of the web and few fishing books mention a live whiting fished near the bottom...

Let me know if you got a spot available.

Decent Overhead Combo?
Submitted by Pezdog on Tue, 2013-03-05 19:02Hey guys
Looking at getting a trolling/bottom bouncing combo. Something decent at both as I don't go out often enough to get one for each.
I like the look of the Tyrnos and the price seems reasonable. Combo around $400 is where I would put my budget at.
Not sure in which size too, I guess the smaller the better because of the weight but wouldn't have a clue.
Would be used metro to try for macks, tuna, Dhus etc
If not the Tyrnos any other recommendations would be great.
Cheers

My first ever mackie!!!
Submitted by Chris fish on Mon, 2013-03-04 22:20Got my first Mack this weekend up near leeman on spear. Never been so excited to pull a trigger on a fish or just to see one cruising by as I was sitting 10m down looking around. Didn't fight that hard as I got a good head shot on it and had it to the surface and in my hands in a few minutes.

Exmouth and full moon
Submitted by Tandawg on Mon, 2013-03-04 14:24Hi all,
I am planning a trip to Exmouth during the 2 weeks of April school holidays. As I have only 1 week to spare, I can go on week 1 or 2. The full moon coincides with the latter half of the first week and I would like some feedback from fishos as to your exploits around the full moon. Will be doing the normal Exmouth stuff of trolling for pelagics, bottom fishing in the 100's and evening fishing in the shallows.
Any feedback would be awesome.
Thanks in advance
Chris
Filleting at sea
Submitted by chris raff on Mon, 2013-03-04 14:03I'm thinking less work , mess and time when we get home . So I suppose the go would be to put the fish on ice to firm it up for a while , min 30cm length fillet with skin and scales intact . Then give it a wash in the sea water and put into a largish ziplock bag and expel all air ... Put it on top of ice bag ready to go straight into fridge / freezer when you get home.. Any of you blokes fillet on the boat ? ... The regulations seem clear enough , but could I get confirmation that I'm reading it right and that it includes filleting dhu and snapper etc ... Cheers in advance
