Submitted by sambo24 on Wed, 2012-04-11 17:20
Hey all,
Got my first Dhu today, in 15m near Rotto. He was just undersize, bugger :(
But still a Dhu nonetheless, hopefully I'll be able to upload a shit quality pic soon if my phone co-operates, just for proof haha :)
photo added (sorry bout the rubbish quality). and just so you know, all his weight isnt concentrated where my right hand is holding him, my other hand is supporting must of his weight,
Cheers

Crease for reels
Submitted by rails8291 on Wed, 2012-04-11 15:47Hey guys, how are we all,
Just wondering what sort or brand of crease people are using on there reels, do you have to use the proper reel crease that you buy from tackle stores or is there something you can get elsewhere cheaper and a larger volume, like repco etc. Opinions would be helpful.
Thanks Rick

Trying to expand my fishing offshore fishing areas..
Submitted by terboz123 on Wed, 2012-04-11 11:55Hey all
with one month to go, im putting in serious effort to land my first decent dhue on the tub...Alot of my fishing has been arond rotto, and its up and down, with mainly boldies and black bums.
Im intrigued by fishing off hillaries/ocean reef, and curious to know is there good round offshore there? or should i do the drive north to mindarie/two rocks.
Launchin from mindarie do you still generally head north west?
Intrigued in starting to fish north more, but with all the two rocks marina threads here unsure what to do. I dont mind getting up and leaving before dark, but two rocks would be an hrs drive for me to the marina anyway.
Is direction bank reachable from oceanreef?
any info would be good, and no im not asking for your co ords,im asking for general info on the area. Currently going through the search functition as well.
thanks all

Is this boat worth saving?
Submitted by Beerzy on Wed, 2012-04-11 09:49Here is the story of the monument boat.
When I was about 7yrs my father bought a boat, still to this day I'm not sure what make of boat it is, I remember going out in the boat several times back in the day.
When I turned 16yrs for unknown reason the boat was not used again....
I am now 33yrs and this 19ft half cabin boat has stayed in the same position for 17yrs, the elements have taken a toll on this boat and the tyres have become one with the concrete. The trailer springs are rusted, the decking ply wood is stuffed and various other bits and pieces have aged over the time.
My father after 17yrs wants to send the boat off for scrap metal and I can't let this happen because I can see the potential value of this boat if it were to get restored.
The boat is now mine providing I move it from it's location in Perth and take it down to Busselton where I live.
I have some questions for the guys who know there boating stuff..
Is this boat worth saving or just scrap it?
How can I move the boat down south? The trailer is not road worthy, If I replaced the tyres can the boat and trailer be pulled up on a tilt tray?
Does anyone know what Model or Make this boat is?
I have heaps of photo's and I will attach the important ones for you guys to inspect.
I would really appreciate everyones advice and help with this.

Thomascraft 45 opinions
Submitted by snaphead101 on Wed, 2012-04-11 06:41Hi All,
I'm looking at buying a WA built boat, a Thomascraft 45 single engine, to use in Mackay QLD where we get a nasty 2 to 3 metre chop on a regular basis. Has anyone owned a 45 Thomascraft, or been in one, that can give me an opinion of their rough water handling and stability at rest. Thanks

Lure Flicking shore based rod
Submitted by Davy_G on Tue, 2012-04-10 21:23G'Day all,
been a while since I last posted here, have been really busy.
With the approaching salmon season, and the tailor biting well in the metro area, i have decided to fork out on something other than bream fishing and am in need of some advice on a landbased lure flicking stick.
Budget around 200-250 for rod+reel, I was thinking maybe a starlo stick 9ft for the rod and a 2500-3000 sienna-saros for reel.
Cheers

bloody photos
Submitted by meglodon on Tue, 2012-04-10 21:16there has been some great photos of catches various members have made with some very big fish being shown.
If i make an observation and offer a bit of advice, it would be a good idea if fw members remember that the green brigade will make use of any material they can get to show fishos in a bad light. showing pictures of blood covered fish and fish impailed on gaffs is courting adverse publicity.
Some years back the hunting and shooting society learned the hard way about showing pictures of game that had been shot and had blood patches on it. there was a great hue and cry over what was seen to be (by the greenies) to be photos of game that had been quote "shot to pieces" by blood thirsty mad men with guns. No criticism of fw members is intended I'm just giving fellow members a bit of a "heads up" about the unforseen consequences of photos of fish showing bloody flanks bulging eyes etc.
I'm a hunter and a fisherman and don't have a problem with such photos, but others will and use such against us.

Jurien weather forecast.
Submitted by Anthony Hall 87 on Tue, 2012-04-10 20:26G'day Fellas,
Heading upto Green Head next friday/Sat for a bit of fishing and diving. What do you guys use for a fairly reliable weather forecast up there. Looking at Sea breeze it has Lano and Gero but no where inbetween.
It sounds good in theory that it will be somewhere in the middle, just wondering if anyone is using something else I don't know about.
Anyone been up there lately, usually do quite well this time of year with weather and fish.

Broome - fish 1 - Pez 0
Submitted by Pezdog on Tue, 2012-04-10 20:16Ok first days fishing and I went and threw a few twisties around Entrance Point but no luck in a couple hours. Went to Gantheum but wind was all wrong, the jetty I wouldn't have been able to release anything let alone get it up (the fish not the manhood) and so many people on Cable Beach to throw lures around. Anyone else having luck anywhere and wanna let a green Perth boy out trying to get onto fish? No 4wd and looking to get stuck into anything.
Otherwise anyone heading out when the wind dies and need a deckie?
Cheers

What could it be
Submitted by Tankisnowfishing on Tue, 2012-04-10 20:06Hey guys
SOn Monday we re fishing approx 10km mark off Ocean Reef. We departed the ramp at 5 am amongst that almost Bermuda triangle fog. Was pretty spun out when the fog lifted and there was boats only a couple of hundred meters from us that we did not know were there.
After a nice flathead from my 11 year old we hooked up on about 3 rays and shovel nose sharks, which gave the gear a good workout. We moved around a bit to try and find some ground as I am only just starting out. At one point all three of us fishing had our hooks cleaned off the leader, no big bites just pulled it up to find no hooks and some leader missing. Was using 60lb mono leader, and did not get snagged... Any ideas what it might of been.
Either way a little disappointed we only went hom with a flathead after ten hours on the water, bt still feeling those rays now. Caught an arrangement of reef fish, well my 11 year old did mostly including a juvenile dhu. Pity no sized ones. My brother inlaw had a small purple color cod type fish on just outside of the marina on the reefs a few km out, but before he landed it something flashed silver and grabbed it took the line for a huge run and he struggled for about five minutes before it spat the original catch out with no marks fully intact.notsure what that could have been either other than shark maybe.
A boat close to us got a good run off something soon after that made him run right around the boat. Splashed around a bit. They got it to the side of the boat and then struggled to get it off the hook, so assuming that must of been a shark as they didn't seem to keen to get it in the boat even after such a fight.
Sorry turned out to be a question into a report, sorry for the long winded query...

Samurai reaction 302
Submitted by Yewiefish85 on Tue, 2012-04-10 19:06hi guys, was wondering if any of you guys have owned or used a samurai reaction 302?, my question is what reel was matched to it?, i am considering buying one but as i live in Port Hedland can't just head to a tackle store that stocks them and have a look for myself, was thinking that a daiwa luvias da 2500 or 3000 spooled with 14lb braid may match?, any info would be greatly appreciated.

Does Ground Holding Lil Dhuies = Bigger Dhuies?
Submitted by surfer on Tue, 2012-04-10 16:36G'day Guys,
Recently acquired our new boat and have been fishing (sounding) the ground off Garden Is (pt Peron). We've done a lot of miles looking for our OWN ground away from everyone else, to the point that we've probably been doing more sounding and driving than fishing. All of the spots that we have found produce undersize dhuies in the 200mm - 400mm size. We have caught dozens of fish this size (probably around 30 or 40) for not one size Dhuie. The question I have is do the smaller dhuies tend to inhabit areas were the bigger dhuies don't (or vice versa)?
Maybe the bigger dhuies prey on the smaller ones?????
We've been fishing dephts from 25m to 55m.
p.s. all undersize fish have released well with a weight.

light travel rod
Submitted by Righteo on Tue, 2012-04-10 15:41Looking for a light travel rod/reel combo, all i can find atm is shimano tcurve and raider (i havnt looked to hard). Want something 2-4kg rated will be used with braid (say4-8lb) but suited to small lures/soft plastics as a well as metals to 15/20g. Basicly looking at a 1000/2000 size reel stradic ci4, fj 1000, daiwa fuego 1500. Rod needs to be 3 or 4 pc with travel tube in the $150.$300 price range, want 6'6 but seems most are 7'0. Think i can find a reel to suit but really looking for advice on a rod.
Cheers

Demersal jigging
Submitted by Cruise Control on Tue, 2012-04-10 13:49For some time now I have been reading many, many posts about the success that various anglers have had jigging for demersals with either plastics or metal jigs. I have been slowly acquiring a combo consisting of a Demon Blood CJ64, a Twinpower with 30lb braid. All I needed was the right jigs. Oceanside advertised a new supply of Fankys so went in and bought a bagfull.
I managed to try these out in 40-50m on Monday out the back of Rotto. First drop and bingo a dhui in less than a minute. Undersize to be sure but still a dhui on metal was a big first for me. Guys on bait got 2 undersize. High 5 on the jig catch and all fish were released carefully. Now I just need to do it again to prove it wasn't a fluke. Thanks to Allboats for the advice on the Demon Blood and Oceanside for the Fankys.
A couple more jigging trips local and then hit it hard at Coral Bay and CarnarFin. Really looking forward to picking up a few more on the jigs.
cheers
