Auxiallary Motors

I have noticed over the past few years, auxiallary motors on boats are pretty much non existent.

I only have a tiny, so we carry oars as our auxiallary. However, on upgrading to a larger vessel an auxiallary will be on the list.

I am just making the comment as each time we head out of Point Peron the Sea Rescue boat seems to always rescue someone with motor issues.

One step forward two steps back for Geograph bay.

Heard that a scallop trawler has been allowed back into the bay and is also allowed to trawl for whiting. After a win with the seine net fishing it seem a backwards step to allow a trawler to start back up again. Anyone that has dived the four mile in the bay would have seen the destruction these guys did in the past. Areas that would of once been large areas of coral gardens are now just flattened out bits of rubble. I am no expert on the matter but to me and a lot of the locals I have talked to can't believe this would be allowed to happen again.

fiberglass repairs

Flounder

Who of you guys go out to catch these fish, I caught one of the Rockingham jetty last night. It was 30 cm fish. We took it home cleaned it, stuck it in a pan and baked it with lemon butter and worcester sauce. Must admit, it was pretty tasty, very much like sole, was a bit bony on the edges though.

Ciguatera Disease

Hi, I read a post containing this word (Ciguatera) and thought I would google it. Fasinating stuff, wonder if I have this desease lying dormand as I have eaten some of the spesies mentioned below. Never got sick though. I guess the fish I ate did not have the disease. What amzes me is that there are so many common species that could potentially have the disease.  Any of you guys caught it before? Wondering how bad it realy feels when you get it?  Below is a Quote of the web page and here is the link, http://www.holistichealthtopics.com/HMG/ciguatera.html#Ciguatera%20-%20General%20Description%20and%20Incidence

Spanish mackerel
Dog tooth tuna
Skipjack tuna
Pacific kingfish
Barracuda
Trigger fish
Jacks
Snapper(Lutjanidae)
Various species of cod or groper
Sea bass
Barramundi

Reef shark
Moray eel
Coral trout
Dolphin fish
Trevally
Sea perch
Parrotfish
Surgeon fish
Yellowtail
Mullet
Pigeye shark

Of these fish, large carnivorous reef inhabiting fish such as the barracuda are generally considered the most toxic species ( 2, 9, 11,18, 26 ) although pelagic fish like the Spanish mackerel seem to cause the most outbreaks of ciguatera ( 18 ) Some fish, such as red bass ( bohar snapper ) and paddletail, may be banned from sale in some localities

fishing at this time of year

is there any spots in perth where i can catch any fish at this time of year or should i just wait till summer?

New Rod rack

Well with the wife and daughter away in Melbourne for a few days I decided to get stuck into a project down in the shed I've been putting off for a while, actually went down and started it at 3/4 time of the Freo game yesterday as that was not worth watching. Anyway, time to knock up a new rod rack as the old one was falling over. A couple of 1.8x90mm x 19mm lengths of that durian timber for the top section and a 1.8m x 70x70 length of dressed pine for the base from Bunnings. Lined the top recess sections with a felt strip also from Bunnings. Drilled out the holes in the base for the rod butts with a 38mm spade bit. The tight section in the recess area where the rod sits in the top section was drilled out with a 20mm spade bit first and the rest was cut away with a jig saw. A coat of flat black paint and space cleared against a wall and we were all done.

Cheers

bremer bay trip

i was also wandering how do you catch prawns and do you get them in bremer bay.

sharks

hey guys

just wanted to know if there are any good spots around perth for some land based shark action? was wondering whether it is just a case of berleying up and getting lucky or if there are actual 'good spots' that sharks tend to hang around? Have never really tried going for sharks before so any tips on rigs/bait/locations would be greatly appreciated :)

what braid?

hi everyone,

so heres the thing, im in the process of spooling up my luvias 3000 da-custom with some braid, but im not too sure on what type of braid i should get. im thinking of going somewhere around 20-30lb. i will be using it for light jigging, bottom bouncing up to lets say 40-50m, and casting.

I was thinking of sunline pe2 (20lb) or some varivas avani light jigging pe2 (33lb) but then i thought i could just get some berkley whiplash 30lb.

with the sunline and varivas i could probably get just under 300m with minimal backing and with the whiplash i could get probably double that as its very thing.

any suggestions will be great.

Daiwa Moonraker

Hey people of Fishwrecked, I'm looking at adding a new rod to the collection and would like some opinions regarding the following rods: Daiwa Moonraker 13'8'', Nitro Messiah, Daiwa Sensor surf 12''.

I will be chasing Tailor etc of the surf, Intend to run 15 to 20lb braid on a medium size spinning reel. Would like to know what people like/dislike about any of these rods. Thanks in advance.

North Mole Squidding

hi everyone

Can anyone give me some advice on where to go squidding at North Mole as I have been there many times not knowing where to go and just trying random spots. I have tried the main wall facing North at the end. Also the east facing wall into the Cut and the south facing wall in the South Mole direction. I never see anyone else squidding so feel a bit silly and as yet have not managed to get one yet. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Chasing bream in the Swan

Hi folks,

I know there are a million and one threads on catching bream. I've done a bit of reading on the site and have not found any pattern in the info to answer my questions.

Have had a couple of sessions lately - yesterday towards Guildford and previously at Garrett Rd Bridge. Will be heading back to Garrett on Sunday hence the thread. I'm yet to catch my first blackie in the river.

I've been throwing baby vibes and micro vibes out and trying different techniques all for the same result. I've tried flicking around the pylons, into the channel, around the snags - but no hits. I've thrown the odd bait out too (river prawn) with no takes and have just invested in one of the diving scorpion lures to try something new. I've also picked up some soft plastics to try and match a few small "somethings" I saw swimming about yesterday in the river.

With the HB vibes for those who have had success is any particular technique better? eg fast retrieve, slow retrieve, flick, winding only...etc? Or is it a case of each to their own? No rain of late so I'm assuming the bream will not be contained in the deeper water.

Additionally, are tides a factor when chasing bream?

I can see me getting frustrated trying to catch these things so any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you

Buschy
