Palm Beach Jetty
Submitted by tommytomato on Wed, 2009-02-04 07:58The City of Rockingham is porposing to undertake reconstruction of the
Palm Beach jetty early in 2009.
The design for the new Jetty incorporates improved recreational fishing & swimming facilities including a universal access low level ramp.
Palm Beach Jetty Dimensions
Length - 125m
Jetty Approach Width - 3.3m
Jetty Head Width -6.5m
A component of the redevelopment is Council's recognition of the Z Force Memorial included in the Palm Beach Foreshore Landscaping
TT ( karl )
It will be good to see the jetty come back, all those guys who used to fish there were up in arms about it been pulled down, it was becoming un safe to even be on the old Jetty.Looks like we will have a nice new one is place very soon

Next fishing purchase?
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Tue, 2009-02-03 11:40Just wondering what your next fishing purchase is going to be? I've been looking at some PE8 popping sticks and am still undecided as what to get. Thought I'd put the question out there to see what you are thinking of getting next.

Tides
Submitted by One Eyed Phil on Tue, 2009-02-03 08:43Morning All
I use "The Fishing Almanac" as a gide to tides and times. Looking at next weeks tides there is some data I cannot understand.
the setting for Fremantle Has the following tides for Monday 9th Feb
06:41 0.25m/0.8ft L
14:03 0.52m/1.71ft H
14:31 0.52m,/1.71ft L
22:51 0.9m/2.95ft H
How can you have the high and low tides in the middle of the day at the same hieght and 28 minute apart? Is it high tide or low tide? Since the low tide listed at 06:41 is only 0.25m and the high tide at 22:51 is 0.9m what are the figures around 2 in the afternoon?

Google Ocean
Submitted by Stevef on Tue, 2009-02-03 08:11Saw this article in today's Australian Newspaper. I wonder if will be of any use to the average fisherman?
THE search engine Google launched a new service to allow internet users to explore the depths of the world's oceans from the comfort of their homes on dry land.
The "Ocean in Google Earth" feature will allow users to "dive beneath the water surface, explore 3D underwater terrain and browse ocean-related content contributed by marine scientists," a Google statement said.
"Google Earth is equipping itself with a new dimension: depth," Jean-Francois Wassong, an engineer at Google France, told a news conference.
Nearly four years after Google Earth enabled users to zoom in to view streets, and later explore galaxies in the sky, the latest version of the software allows virtual travellers to dart across miles of unchartered territory underwater.
"Oceans cover more than 70 per cent of the planet's surface but only a little bit has been explored," said Florence Diss, head of Google's geographical partnerships, referring to findings that humans have examined just five per cent of world's seas.
By allowing users to explore underwater volcanoes, hunt for whales and learn more about shipwrecks, Google says Ocean in Google Earth offers a platform for everyday internet browsers to link up with the scientific community.
The feature includes 20 different layers of content contributed by leading ocean explorers, scientists and researchers, such as photos and videos of "hot spots" around the world and information on marine protected areas.
It also has an animal tracking device in which users can follow animals that have been tagged by satellite.
Ms Diss said the decision to expand Google Earth to cover the world's oceans "is not about making money". But she would not reveal the project's cost.
Since its launch in June 2005, Google Earth has been downloaded more than 400 million times.
The free software gives internet users access to satellite images and maps around the world.

Warnbro Beach Surprise
Submitted by luke george on Mon, 2009-02-02 21:52Me and a mate were fishing warnbro beach for tailor on friday night having an awsome night with around 15 sized tailor and plenty of herring decided to put a herring on for live bait. After about an hour of insane tailor fishing forgot about the livey so went to check on it and the reel had been spooled! but not snapped my mate fought the fish in for about 10 mins getting ready for a wobby or fiddler as there was no fight what so ever.I walked in the water to check it out and it was a 5 foot black tip reef shark. We were stoked to say the least put out more liveys and had around 6 or 7 chomped clean in half but no hookups. Went down again saturday night again plenty of tailor and herring so out went the liveys after about 10 liveys being clean chomped in half and only one hookup that ran for about 50m with insane head shaking then spat the hooks decided to call it a night. Seems to me that theres a few sharkies around the tailor schools will be giving it ago again quite soon

Help With Montebello's
Submitted by Lui_F on Sun, 2009-02-01 19:25Hi there all,
We usually do a boys trip to Exmouth every year with three boats, even met Adam last year at the cleaning station at the main marina while he was helping out the fisheries up there, but we want to do something different this time around and were thinking about taking a charter at the Montee's, can anyone tell me if it's a worthwhile trip and if so who would you recommend for a 5 or 6 nighter. Any feed back would be much appretiated. Thanks.

Fishwrecked's February Food Fiesta - Competition
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Sun, 2009-02-01 12:47Hi Guys and Girls,
I've thought about a new competition for February, that being the best presented seafood dish which will be voted on by members. Organise your seafood delicacies (cooked or uncooked) into a beautiful platter and take a photo and submit it to the site with the title FebFoodComp - 'Entry name'. The winner of the comp will take home a cook book (any suggestions on a good one appreciated) and a fishwrecked pack. Look foward to seeing your entries. Here's a great example from GrahamM.
Cheers,
Adam
