Submitted by metallicsharky on Mon, 2007-07-16 07:29Rigging and Presenting SP's
Submitted by rickets on Sun, 2007-07-15 16:51Just curious how people rig bloodworm styled gulp's and SP's?
Im used to using the jerk shads and grubs and shrimps etc but never really known how to actually present a bloodworm styled lure...
Hmm maybe there is a site somewhere that gives the lowdown on rigging and presenting different types of SP's and styles?
Anyone got the low down?

Barrow Island
Submitted by poida on Sun, 2007-07-15 10:05I'm fortunate enough to be headed to Barrow Island to do some work and am wondering if any one has ever been before??? Will definaltely pack a snorkle, if i'm lucky enough to get a couple of hours off, but would obviously love, as a fisherman, to wet a line. Any one been there or know of restrictions???

today
Submitted by luke george on Sat, 2007-07-14 17:06great day out today on the water as you would all probably know, went out about 12k's picked up about 8 blackass and 2 big harlys about 50cm each. Then burleyed up on the fathom and had a few skippy sniffing around then in the trail a 6 foot mako shark came into it so i threw a bait in and it took it straight away then ran and lept totally out of the water shaking its head and then spooled me. All in all was a good day on the water and i hope everyone else had a good day with the comp

Safe to swim
Submitted by dogsoldier on Thu, 2007-07-12 11:29"Naw," the man hollered back, "they ain't been around for years!"
"Feeling safe, the tourist started swimming leisurely toward the shore.
About halfway there he asked the guy,"How'd you get rid of the gators?"
"We didn't do nothin'," the beachcomber said.
"The sharks got 'em."

REMINDER!!! NOR v SOR Comp details (Saturday 14th July 2007)
Submitted by Andy Mac on Thu, 2007-07-12 09:09WE ARE GREEN TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Merchandise
I will have beanies available for sale at the NOR comp, so come and see me before you launch if you want one. Unfortunately I won't have any shirts except for those who have already ordered them.
Beanies are $15 each.
Launch time
6-30am from Mindarie. Note there are only two launch and two retreive lanes so be patient or get there early to avoid the rush.
Retrieve
All boats need to be back at the ramp by 3-00pm with fish landed. If there is a big line, as long as you have pulled up near the ramp that's fine, however entering the Marina late will mean your catch will not count towards prizes.
Entry Costs
Please can all skippers collect your team's "prize donation" entry fees and place them in an envelope with your names on and hand it to either me or Tim at the launching ramps. It just makes it easier for us to reconcile who has and who hasn't paid.
Points
The points system is the same as the SOR comp, so please download the data sheet so you can keep track of your points. I will put up a fresh link shortly.
Weigh -in (Dhuie / Snapper Frame Donation)
Unfortunately Ian Keay is on leave and Nick is up North with Adam so the fisheries guys won;t be there to dissect your Dhuies and Snapper. I will however have a heap of specimen bags that I will bring along so if you wish to fillet your catch at the ramp (no facilities however) and give me your frames in the specimen bag I can freeze and get Nick to pick them up when he gets back. Otherwise you can take the specimen bag home and make arrangements to get the frames to the guys youreslves.
Photo Comp
We still have the photo comp to award ($100 cash between the two events) so make sure you have your fishwrecked beanie for a chance at the prize. Also I encourage everyone to take as many pics as you can as the site thrives on new content. Remember there is a separate gallery that the comp photo's can be put into so get snapping.
Prizes
The prize pool is still huge, with assorted vouchers, cleaning products, tackle vouchers and cash so everyone is in with a chance of winning something. Crikey if Tony H can win something anyone can.
(Sorry Tony, Pete D made me say that)
Safety
All skippers are reminded that this is an enter at your own risk event and so you decide if you want to launch and where you want to fish and you take all responsibility for your own actions. I strongly insist that everyone logs on with VJ6LQ which is the Ocean Reef Volunteer Sea Rescue station and also logs off when you return, we don;t want anyone left behind out there.
Fish Bag & Size Limits
Everyone must abide by bag and size limits, so if you aren't sure call in to your local tackle shop and make sure you have the latest size guide before the event.
Above all else have a great day on the water and have fun and be safe. We aren't playing for sheep stations so its all about having fun.

Andamon & Nicobar Islands
Submitted by dogsoldier on Wed, 2007-07-11 16:36Well my trip to the Burma banks has been changed to the Nicobar and Andamon Islands.Due to the fact that there has been a lot of dynamite being used by the locals so has anyone fished these Islands before going to be targeting sails, black marlin, wahoo, spanyards as well as the local bottom species have been told they even have barramundi there any tips would be great. Will be taking all my own gear as well as a few components that I pick up from from a four day stay in HK after all have to stop in a see the nieces and the sister who is funding the trip.
14 days fishing from a 38 foot powercat but staying on a 90 foot mothership. Will be the fishing trip of a lifetime.I leave December the 15.Taking the camera to get some memorable photo's 99% of the fish will be released but will have to sample a couple of the locals as well.
Any suggestions on terminal and locations would be great if you have known of somone who has fished these locations
So far its two trolling outfits
two spinning out fits
two bottom bouncing outfits

Re Squid
Submitted by dogsoldier on Mon, 2007-07-09 22:28Went down to the south mole this afternoon for a squid session caught 4 which were nice sizes the bad part was that when I got home and was cleaning them two of them were females with eggs which I was not too impressed about I know the squid population is not under threat at the moment but the amount of eggs that these two squid had in them would have produced a fair few squid for someone else to catch or to further the population with their breeding. Was wondering if there is anyway to tell have checked on the net for any information but came up with zip anyone know

bait collecting last night
Submitted by luke george on Sat, 2007-07-07 12:32Had a great time getting bait last night started just fishing the side of some jettys in the sound from the boat at about 4pm burleyed for herring and got plenty. As it started to get dark pulled in a horse of of leatherjacket at 38cm next cast an even bigger on at 45cm. Then dropped a squid jig in ended up with 13 squid in about 30 mins biggest was 1.2kg. Then and even bigger leatherjacket folowed a little squid up and bit onto the back of the squid and took a little chuck out of it. After all that the night fishing was useless didnt even get a bite but after the bait collecting didnt really care.
Btw did anyone do any good last night was pretty good weather for it

SINKER MOULD TO 1.5KG
Submitted by VAGABOND on Fri, 2007-07-06 19:32sinker moulds you could make one like this. I've used this style for many years
and it works a treat. Easy to use just fill to the size you want and knock it out.
Because it is on a handle no more burnt fingers?
I fill to the top to make winch sinkers about 1.5kg but you can fill about 3 quaters
to make your 32 ounce. I still use a 32 ounce snapper sinker mould for the rods
but you can just fill to what ever size you want.
You have to Drill hole for the line, I drill half way through then turn round and drill
through the other side to stop the drill bit binding up.
Easy to make out of scrap steel.
There is a photo on Fish Wrecked Photos, Couldn't work out how to attach to post.
Jason.

Needing a website to obtain fish type photos..
Submitted by Under the Hammer on Fri, 2007-07-06 04:19Hi All,
Next Wednesday I'm getting dressed up in my scuba gear for my three year old daughter's play group class and I was hoping to get some colour photos of what fish look like under water-trying to make the demo a little interesting and of course keeping 3 year olds entertained is another thing!! I'm hoping to pass them around the group whilst the demonstration is on..
Can anyone direct me to an appropriate site where I maybe able access these images and download them please?
Would be greatly appreciated & thanks in advance,
T.
