Shredding at Shore Catch this Saturday Morning
Submitted by Mick C on Thu, 2017-07-13 18:29Due to demand, and the fact that Saturday’s conditions look very ordinary for boating, Shore Catch will open and be available to shred member’s frozen fish waste this Saturday morning. This is a service that is becoming increasingly popular and is our way to minimise fish waste going to landfill whilst providing a service to site members.

We will operate from 8am till mid to late -morning. It usually takes 10-20 minutes to shred up to 20kg and we will operate on a “first in” basis over the morning. It would however be helpful if you let us know you are coming, and approximately what time, so we can plan for the day.
If you recall, shredding is generally governed by the set of rules outlined below but we are happy to discuss any specific requirements. Please feel free to come along if you are interested. Our address is 65 Buckingham Drive Wangara.
Mick
- We will not accept monetary payment for providing the service, however we would expect that you would patronise our shop as a customer.
- Available days are Monday and Tuesday mornings, but you would need to notify us that you are coming in at least 24 hours prior to attendance (some other times may be available subject to our workload).
- The weight limit on raw material is approximately 20kg per time – this is generally one tub, (we process 20kg in 10-20 minutes).
- The product is to be brought in frozen – we will not process thawed products. Raw material in an esky that can be then used for the shred is the best method.
- All plastic is to be removed prior to arrival – it wastes our time removing plastic, and worse still is that shredded plastic should not be placed in the ocean.
- We will not process undersized or protected fish – your load will be rejected and we reserve the right to notify Fishwatch (it is illegal to have them in your possession).
- You are to certify that your load contains no metal (hooks) as there may be liability for repair of equipment if it does – if in doubt don’t bring it in.
- You are to remain in attendance while your product is processed.
- You are not permitted to enter our work area; however, you may watch from behind a barrier.
- We will not receive and store raw material or product, and you are to take the product off-site as soon as it is produced.
- We will not accept your shredded product in exchange for any benefit whatsoever.

Have a budget of 15-23k
And in Perth currently looking at a few boats. Taking the link above for a sea trial on Friday. Has a bilge on it but wanted to know the best way to look for pinholes.
Being a older hull it had the inspection report for last year for insurance purposes and all checks out. Motor has done a few hours and doing a diagnostics on sat.
Any advice is appreciated

WTF Is this off Dawesville Cut?
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Tue, 2017-07-11 20:11Was checking some potential ground to checkout next time I'm down and came across this. They're about 20nm WSW of the mouth of the cut.
Dunno about the fishing but these banks look like they'd hold some monster, monster swell.
Has anyone been out there for a look?

EZI GUIDE boat trailer loading system info ?
Submitted by beeroclock on Tue, 2017-07-11 14:11Gday all just wondering if anyone on here uses these on their trailer. When retrieving i put the trailer in so the first keel roller on end of trailer is level with water so it doesnt float off trailer as im starting to winch which of course means when i winch her up all of the boat is out of the water and hard to winch up (have checked the rollers they all turn, even put thick grease on the two skids which helped a bit) When i put the boat in a bit deeper and the swells are up at two rocks marina boat keeps lifting off and out of alignment i want to be able to put the boat in deeper and just wondering if anybody uses these and finds they help with deeper launching to make winching quicker and easier cheers Dave.

Fisheries WA vs Rec Diving for Crays
Submitted by scotto on Tue, 2017-07-11 07:23for those of you on facebook, there is now a dedicated page to bringing more attention to the injustice being dealt to Bret Carter by Fisheries WA, and the fine he got resulting from him surfacing with more than 8 crays in his dive bag in 2014.
The creator of this page is trying to use it as an online petition, with "likes" being not only a direct vote of support for Bret, but also a vote for the need to change the legislation, so that divers get the same time as other recreational crayfish catchers, to correctly and safely inspect their catch in a controlled environment (the deck of their vessel).
For those in the dark ages and don't know what its all about, Bret successfully defeated the case in the magistrates court last year, but Dept of Fisheries took it to the supreme court to overturn the decision, and has now sent it back to the magistrates court for a retrial. No date has been set for the next hearing, but believe me when I say this, A LOT hangs in the balance of the final decision.
The facebook page has been up and running for just under a week now, and even in its short life is cruising towards 1000 likes already. It has raised awareness of this issue to a number of scuba and freediving clubs, crayfishing and recreational fishing fraternities and pages, and also a lot of the general public, who basically knew nothing of this whole ordeal.
If you haven't done already, jump on board the page, like it, and share it around. Support the bloke, and the need to change this shitty legislation so its not prejudice against the way you collect your crays.

good joke
Submitted by Travis p on Mon, 2017-07-10 09:08just seen this on another fishing forum and thought it was worth a laugh
A bloke's wife goes missing while diving off the West Australian Coast He reports the event, searches fruitlessly and spends a terrible night wondering what could have happened to her.
Next morning there's a knock at the door and he is confronted by a couple of policemen, the old Sarge and a younger Constable.
The Sarge says, 'Mate, we have some news for you, unfortunately some really bad news, but, some good news, and maybe some more good news'.'Well,' says the bloke, 'I guess I'd better have the bad news first?'
The Sarge says, 'I'm really sorry mate, but your wife is dead. Young Bill here found her lying at about five fathoms in a little cleft in the reef. He got a line around her and we pulled her up, but she was dead.'
The bloke is naturally distressed to hear of this and has a bit of a turn. But after a few minutes he pulls himself together and asks what the good news is.
The Sarge says, 'Well when we got your wife up there were quite a few really good sized lobsters and a swag of nice crabs attached to her, so we've brought you your share.'He hands the bloke a bag with a couple of nice lobsters and four or five crabs in it.' Geez thanks. They're bloody beauties. I guess it's an ill wind and all that...
So what's the other possible good news?' Well', the Sarge says, 'if you fancy a quick trip, me and young Bill here get off duty at around 11 o'clock and we're gonna shoot over there and pull her up again.![]()

Winter Hillarys Mackies
Submitted by Superfish on Mon, 2017-07-10 08:42Just watched the you tube video of FISH EAGLE wow he always gets on to the best fish and well done to Gail. We went out from Hillarys on Saturday and anchored up and berleyed in about 10 m of water caugt a small skippy and a nice Black Ass. Not long afterer we noticed some Mackies under the boat . Tried livies, Soft plastics, jigs, and fresh baited snelled hooks with no luck. Ended up hookling massive Ray on the live bait which resulted in much cursing from the skipper. The only thing we didnt try was pulling the anchor and trawling . Just wondering if any of you have hade the same happen and if you have any ideas what else i could do to hook a Mackie as i have never caught one.

Thumbs down Photobucket users held to ransom
Submitted by groverwa on Sun, 2017-07-09 19:26
To all Photobucket users.
Please be advised that Photobucket is holding its members to ransom and will/has stopped photos from being used on 3rd party sites. Because of this there could once again be a loss of pics on Woodwork Forums and Metalwork Forums.
This could mean the loss of around 14 years of photo's hosted on Photobucket. Like other losses of photos on the forums this out of our control and there is absolutely nothing we can do about the loss of any pics hosted on Photobucket and linked to from this site.
I urge all Photobucket users to have a look at the below and maybe get your photos off that site and on to a memory stick or hard-drive for storage as this could spell the end of Photobucket, not to mention play merry hell with pics on these forums and almost all other forums, blogs etc, etc around the world.
Below is a couple of extract from news.com.au < Click link for more.
Photobucket, a US-based image and video-hosting website founded in 2003, quietly changed its policy late last month to prevent users from hosting their content on third-party websites unless they pay a $US400 ($526) annual fee.
Members who used the previously free service to store their content for use on auction sites, blogs and internet forums have discovered their images replaced with a message asking them to “update your account”.
The move means more than a decade worth of images hosted all over the internet have suddenly turned into broken links unless members sign up for one of Photobucket’s “competitive subscription plans”.

lolly lures
Submitted by kknlk on Sun, 2017-07-09 10:54This morn there was a quick segment on how Allen's make their snake lollies. Some have had minor success on using lollies as bait. I can see the snakes & worm like as a substitute for sp. It's also very cheap in comparison and unlike other bait, you can eat what's left or as you're fishing. Let us know what you've used and what you caught.

Fish ID
Submitted by gruntre69 on Sun, 2017-07-09 10:08Is this a bright redfish or swallowtail? I think bright redfish.
Caught it yesterday after a very average day out ranging from 105 meters and back into the 3 mile off Oceanreef.
Also caught a nice queeny, a just size breaksea cod and a good skippy.
Lost 3 good fish that I suspect were sharks because all 3 cut through the 80 Lb leader at or just above the hooks on the dropper loops.
Might move up a size in leader...
PS: I can't figure out how to get the photos the right way up, they are correct on my PC...

Line looping around tip when casting
Submitted by selthy on Sat, 2017-07-08 18:59Tested out my new rod and reel today. Pflueger Crank Big Bait with Saragossa 10k spooled with 50lb braid and a wind on 80lb leader. Spooled and leader tied to line at Oceanside.
Nearly every cast resulted in the braid looping around the tip. It appeared to occur just after the braid to Leader knot (I think they used an FG) passed through the last guide.
I started casting a 4oz star sinker and Mulie. One cast flew perfectly, I was stoked with the distance and pulled in a herring. I then switched to a live bait rig with the herring and a small running ball sinker.
Apart from the cast when I caught the fish, all others resulted in the line looping around the tip and significantly reducing the distance of the cast.
I'm thinking this cuold be caused by poor technique, leader is too large in diameter, sinker too light, over spooled etc.
Please let me know your thoughts and any tips to narrow down the cause and find a solution.

Best Route Mandurah to Kalbarri tomorrow?
Submitted by linoc on Sat, 2017-07-08 11:28Hi Guys,
Heading straight up to Kalbarri at 2am tomorrow morning by car from Mandurah, no trailer or sightseeing.
I'm Guessing taking Roe, Great Northern & Brand would be my best option rather than IOD?
Wish to avoid as many critters and road works as possible (Nomads should be tucked in).
Cheers!
