A crying shame
Submitted by sunshine on Wed, 2017-08-23 09:01Was in Southlands yesterday and wandered past the so called fresh fish shop located in the centre. (Doesn't smell too fresh to me!)
Sitting there on ice was, astoundingly, a locally caught Black Bream......all 2.1kg of it ........for sale at $45. Whilst I am not an ardent bream fisho I was stunned to see such a majestic fish. I've caught them to a smudge under that size but have always considered the 2kg mark to be truly a specimen and have always carefully returned such fish as prime breeding stock to the waters from which they came and could not believe a pro would have netted and not returned such a fish.
How old would a fish of this size be, over 50 years surely?

Myalup Area Beach Fishing
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Wed, 2017-08-23 07:55Heading down to Myalup on the weekend for my boy's Karate camp and it would be remiss of me not to pack a rod for a cheeky flick. I'm just going to head down with some poppers and richter plugs and have a flick so can anyone point me in the right direction? I don't a 4WD.
I seem to remember from when we used to stay there as kids that Myalup is pretty beachy so is it worth heading a little bit further south to Binningup?
Cheers JF

Ammo jetty
Submitted by Boyce on Tue, 2017-08-22 21:23Hi guys
Have fished ammo jetty plenty of times during the day but never at night
Was doing some research and found lots of other old forums on how unsafe it is at night
Between car breakins and holdups at knife point for fishing gear the spot isnt sounding so great for a night fish
Was wondering if anyone has any more recent opinions or experiences in regards to the spots safety and just the general fishing quality
Thanks

Offshore wind forecast up to twice as strong as on land
Submitted by jgfisho on Tue, 2017-08-22 14:17
Hi,
This new video shows how the offshore wind forecast can be up to twice as strong as it is at the shoreline. Interesting watch for any fisho and the reason why the checking the forecast at the shore/boat ramp is not a good idea and the reason people get caught out sometimes. You should be checking the wind forecast offshore where you intend on fishing.

Replacement Reel -Calcutta 400B
Submitted by bsir on Mon, 2017-08-21 11:24I have a calcutta 400B that has survived many years, but I think the time has come for it to enter retirement.
I am going to replace this, but need to work out what reel to use. While the calcutta performed well, the slow retrieval speed was a pain in the ass at times, especially when in 40m of water.
What it will be used for:
- 6-10kg braid
- baitcaster (used occasionally to flick lures around)
- jigging (20-50m)
- Ligh bottom bouncing (KGW etc)
It spends most of its time on a demon blood, PE2-4, jig overhead 90-280g.
I know its a big ask, but any recommendation?

baby dhu on jig
Submitted by Dreamtime on Sun, 2017-08-20 20:19Got another surprise today in 8m of water with a 58cm dhu bang eating my "insurance policy"(octo jig) and two pinks around 80cm while squidding. First time I've chucked the jig out in that depth and won't be the last. How did everyone else do today?

Leeman
Submitted by gruntre69 on Sat, 2017-08-19 17:16Thinking about heading up to Durien Leeman tomorrow night for a Monday fish at Leeman. I know it's as long way but I don't mind a drive for a chance to get some good fish and get away for a mission.
I've looked at the search function on here but there is no recent information. Mostly a couple of years old..
I'm looking for info on the boat ramp. Is it a good one? The search function shows merntions of an upgrade so I'm thinking we shouldf be good to go.
Any other tips or pointers or current info on safe boating in and out and places to start looking for fish would be great. Looks like good weather on the way so not afraid to drive the boat out deep if necessary. I've only ever landed one Dhu on my boat and it wasn't huge. It would be great to get a couple of nice dhues between me and my mate...

Navionics 50% Off
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Sat, 2017-08-19 12:27I've been putting of paying to update my Navionics+ card and been getting reminders from Navionics but last week they perked my interest with an offer of 50% off. Just got me a new Platinum+ card (Beagle Bay to Cape Freycinet) delivered for $197. Bloody bargain. I'll keep my old card in case I head down to Augusta etc.
I don't know if it will work for anyone else but here's the link in any case and you have to use IE for the discount to work for some reason.

G'day strangers!
Submitted by bronzey92 on Thu, 2017-08-17 22:35Hey fellas,
It's been a while since I've been on here since I've been out of perth. I just am hoping for any tiny piece of advice for tomorrow afternoon for I've got a couple of people who are dying to go fishing. I've checked all the usual condition indicators but it's been a while since I've fished on-shore in Perth and just want to catch them something. Just trying to toss up a place that would be more protected or at least producing - even a herring they'd be stoked! Realise it's going to be Friday arvo so most places are going to be crowded and we wouldn't get there until about 4.30. Am based between Freo and City Beach but any advice would really be appricaited guys, these guys just want to experience that feeling of catching their first fish, and I'm sure we can all relate to that! So not expecting secret spots or anything silly, just any reccomendations would be great.
All the best fellas!
Matt
