Rottnest Hotel Jetty Pens - mooring arrangements

 Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone has had experience using the hotel jetty pens at Rotto. We have some accommodation booked in October and if the weather is good are looking at taking a 5.2m ally runabout over, and with kids on board it would be good to have a guaranteed pen near the hotel.

I have looked on the Rottnest website and understand how to book, location of pens etc but they are fairly vague as to mooring arrangements for the pens aside from noting that we would need to bring our own lines.

So, hoping that a fishwrecked member has used these before and has any tips, or even better some pics for over there.

Failing that the beach mooring system seems simple enough but a little bit further away for the guaranteed spots...

Many thanks in advance,

Vincent

Spring tides at montebello islands

 Gday guys

Well the plan is to head to the monties in a couple weeks weather permitting looking at launching on the 21st and head over for 5 days camping on one of the islands looks like it might be hard work to find a good Anchorage close to shore so we dont have to swim to far in.

Are we better off trying to sleep on the boat so we can anchor in deeper water.

Cheers

Old Humminbird died

 Hi Guys

The old trusted Humminbird has lost the plot! GPS I think shat itself.

I dont go out very deep and was thinking purely because I am so used to this by replacing it with a Humminbird Helix 5 or 7.

Maybe the deepest I would fish now would be 40m out from Mandurah and the odd trip up north.

Any comments on the Helix range would be appreciated. Dont look bad on the net but would prefer users comments.

Cheers

Exmouth in late September

 Gday guys

Im looking at taking a 6m boat and the family to Exmouth in late september. We have been down that way a few times but not at that time of year. Just wanted to see if anyone thinks it's worth towing a boat all the way there or is the weather not going to be too friendly for boating. Any feedback or advice would be great.

Cheers

New outboard recommendations/ advice 140-150HP

 Hi Guys,

I am currently doing a bit of research as I am thinking of re-powering my boat in the near future.

At this stage I am wanting a 140-150hp (Still tossing up brands) and just wondering what experiences you have had good/ bad.

I understand the boat show is coming up (if it goes ahead) and that there is often deals that vendors will have but I still want to get an idea of what others have paid etc. in the meantime.

If you are willing, can you drop me a PM and let me know things such as brand, price, warranty, fitting, finance, extras and who supplied.

Cheers.

Almost Exxy Trip

After the Eagles/Collingwood footy match on Sunday, a few of the Exxy 2000 boys got on the piss, which resulted in a spur of the moment Exxy trip being planned for Wednesday......2 days time......more of a wet dream...

Two boats, my 235 Whaler and Troys 235 Whaler  (aka "The Mule").....

Anyhow, we got as far as Jurien, and decided it Exxy was too far given the Exmouth forecast update not as good as we were hoping. So stopped and fished Jurien on Wednesday. It blew its arse off in the morning, but still got our bag of baldies but it was hard work in the slop.

After a few beers that night in Jurien, we reflected on being battered by the easterly and the forecast for Thursday was lookng similar, so we decied a sleep in and bacon and eggs breaky and head home early was better for us weak pricks.......a 3 days Exxy trip turned into a 1 day Jurien trip......getting old......

After seeing the ocean at 11 am, we ended up chucking the boats back in the water on the way home, did not even take the oversie signs off the boat... just in time for the southerly buster.....bugger. But man did we hit a hot dhuie bite!

After being busted off by 3 big fish that felt like serious dhuies, we upgraded rigs and Bodie landed a nice dhu whioch we dropped on the deck and we both dropped straigt back in, Bodie hooked up straight away and I loaded up on a nice double header. As we were busy sorting out the release weight for the healthiest 2 dhuies, Troy swung "The Mule" in on our drift and they both hooked up, landing another 2 nice dhuies. 10 minutes of madness.

Great end to a short "Exxy" trip!

4 dhuies on deck on my Whaler.....wheres the release weight!!!

Troy and Daz on "the Mule", Daz hooked up, Troy had already landed his.

bent sreet

I am trying to get the council to deliniate the footpath/cycle path at the bent street boat ramp. I hassled them for better lighttting and the y put up a couple of flood lights. I think the path needs some barrier put up as i beleive that it is a potential accident waiting to happen. It will only take someones young kid on a bike or running unsupervised to get in the path of a trailer being reveres down the ramp and it will be a serious accident. You cannot watch all areas as your reveresing your trailer. I know that there has been no accidents yet but there has been some close calls. get ono the council with enough pressure and it might get resolved. Send them an email. cheers

repower from stern drive to outboards

 Hi guys,

just wondering / chasing some advise from anyone who may have repowered their boats from inboards / stern drives to having a pod attached & new outboards.

I am working on a plan to purchase a 26 - 28ft boat & removing the engines & replacing them with twin outboards.

I would just like some in fo from those that have done it with regards to

-- approx costs of engine removal

-- cost of pods, including engineers reports - or are they included / done by the fabricator of the pods

-- any pitfalls to watchout for

thanks in advance, it would be much appreciated

regards Wez

Anyone setup temporary electric reel andersons?

After another trip in the books up north, we have been thinking about how we can better connect our reels.

Currently, we have 3 small motorcycle batteries which we sit in the side pockets and connect to each battery individualy, this has worked well for 5 years and we are simply thinking the process can be improved.

Mounting permanant andersons to the side of the boat is not an option, we do get some water spray over the side and having them sit out int he elements all year is not ideal and not something i want to do.

Have used anderson previously on one of the small betrries, but it built up resistance within the lead, i think due to water running over the connections perhaps.....as told to me by a reputable perth tackle shop which was on south street and sponsored this site before closing.

My thoughts were 1 full size battery in a box up the front, run a big lead down the side of the boat, and run my 3 reels off that lead, perhaps splice in 3 outlets so we can all connect and disconnect with ease.

It works in my head but would be keen to hear how others may have made this type of solution work.

Any tips woudl be handy.

Cheers
