dunsborough help
Submitted by choc on Mon, 2013-03-04 09:40Hi guys
I live in Busso and feel like a bit of a fishing location change.
Thinking of launching at Quindalup but have no idea where to go.Only launched there a couple of times but stayed in close just for squid and whiting.
Just wondering on a general direction to head and would I start looking in similar depths as Busso for Dhuies and kgs?
Have had a quick search and the 30m mark sounds like the go.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers Choc.

whats the best age to get kids into fishing??
Submitted by THERESONLYONEBIGRED on Sun, 2013-03-03 22:24hey guys,
fairly new to the site and just had a few quieries about when we should get our kids into fishing.
im fresh into parenthood and was absolutely stoked when we found out we had a little boy on the way.
we went away for a long weekend fishing/surfing trip and decided to take the little fella who at the time was 6months old. gave him a rod and reel and first hook up a a meesly trumpeter but the little man found it hillarious..
3 months down the track he cant keep his hands off my fishing gear. decided to spool my salina 2 16000 while mums at home and im at work just for shits and giggles, but evry time i move them and hide my gear he finds it all and just cant keep his hands off.
cut a long story short is 6 months to early?
he is absoluetly mesmorised by fishing rods and reels and will drop his toys anyday to get hold of the gear i leave lying around.

Fishing tips please
Submitted by joycey on Sun, 2013-03-03 22:16Heh guys,
Need some tips of possible.
Had a boat for over 6 months and fished the 30-40m mark out from Cockburn Sound several times, but as yet not managed to catch anything of note !
Fishing paternoster with occie and also tried jigging, but no joy.
Sounded around but not found much to get excited about
Struggling a bit so would value any advice
Also when I jigged the line was at an angle due to the affect of the drift, making it difficult, is there anyway to avoid this problem.
Cheers!

first mulloway
Submitted by alexangler on Sun, 2013-03-03 18:56hey guys
well after nearly 3 years of trying I finally landed my first mulla even though for once i was wasnt targeting one
It was caught in the middle of the day on a small piece of squid and measured 62 cms
was caught on a size 2 hook meant for whiting and skippy so the hook bent a fair bit but lucky we could pull it in, in time
the fish swam off strongly which was good to see
hopefully the next one isnt such a long wait
cheers alex

Fishing WA
Submitted by Cruise Control on Sun, 2013-03-03 16:59Think I am going to have to give up watching Fishing WA live.
The last few episodes I have noticed the high incidence of general ads and ads for the sale of extreme gear on the show itself. Today was no different. I think that it was pretty evenly split by my reckoning, about 50/50 fishing and ads on a show that runs for 29 minutes.
Understand everyone has to make a living but I dont think I will be putting myself out to watch another episode as it runs on TV. Record it, watch the little amount of fishing which is interesting enough and flick the rest.

The other unusual species making a show off the Duns Beaches is Giant Herring , with quite a few being landed in the past fortnight , mainly by people throwing light surface lures ....

Snelled hooks on a paternoster rig
Submitted by AlwaysFishin on Sun, 2013-03-03 03:02I'm keen to try snelling hooks on the dropper loops of a paternoster rig but unsure exactly how to go about it. I'm thinking of snelling two hooks together, then trimming the excess line off so I'm just left with one hook snelled to the other, then connect the snelled hooks to the paternoster dropper loop as you would normally. I'm just not sure if that's the right way of doing it. Does anyone else do this that can shed some light for me?

Salmon Fishing 2013
Submitted by Jac54 on Sat, 2013-03-02 00:22How is the Salmon Fishing season shaping up around Dunsborough way this year? The last 2 years have been very poor due to the Ocean currents being so warm.
Does anyone have any future predictions for the Ocean current temperature around April this year or is it going to be another fizzer?

Hillarys Marina Boat show
Submitted by diver on Fri, 2013-03-01 19:40Just to advise you all who may be going out from the Hillarys marina on the weekend of the 17th March,The BIA (boating industry Of Australia) are haveing their show, that is great ,except ,the car& trailer
Will be closed off By 40%,that means that of the 247 trailer bays there will be a lot less access for those who want to go out. Please contact the manager if you have any concernse, his details are as follows:
He said that we,the trailer boat users can park our cars/trailers in the oerflow park situated in the North eastern side of the launching ramps.Thois is ok but if you are a lone fisherman/boat user, you will have too,:launch you'r boat, make it fast to the end of the jetty, take you'r car & find a parking area,,possible some few minutes walk away, and mapart from annoying some people by not moving you'r boat quickly ,you could find someone has stollen a rod or two, lets face it,some people do take what is not theirs, while you are gone, not just when you go out,but also when you return. If,as I suspect, many of you are to appathetick to do anything or just do not care,Fine, but other wise phone Chriss up and voice you'r concerns, after all,Hillarys was built for the trailer boat person and apart from Ocean Reef & Quinns is all we have in the Northern suburbs, but down the other side of the Swan river, there is Cockbourn,A lovely ramp, the Two at Rockingham, basic but usable, then another at point Peron, another lovely ramp.I think the only reason we have just the one good one with all of 247 bays that we must share with the cars that the people go to the commercial shops from,is that the goverment treat us with the contempt we seem to diserve> just my views but I hope othrs will read this and add thier own. After all,its not that we are not paying a lot of money for our weekend of pleasure.:Boat Rego,Trailer rego,Fuel tax,(meant for roads) then the fees for launching & parking, the serviceing of motors, the bait, safety gear,Oh shit,I think some of you must earn far to much money and simply do not give a stuff.Diver.

Macks and tuna
Submitted by Justo82 on Fri, 2013-03-01 15:56Hi folks,
ive just had my first shot at rigging up my own lures. I've got some richter jelly babes that I rigged up with 50lb line and some good 3/0 hooks. Double crimped so should hold well.
Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone has some pointers. I've never specifically targeted Tuna before, and I'm hoping to get my 1st this weekend. I will be launching from hillarys and generally head to the NE side of rotto. I don't intend to head out further than that (this is where I do my shark fishing and bottom bouncing).
Question is, am I best off trolling around the 3 mile, or heading towards rotto? Should I be looking for working birds or bottom structure? Perhaps both? I will also chuck out a mackie lure or 2 in the spread, will they work together, or are the trolling speeds for both types of lure too different.
i don't want anyone's specific spots (but if you're feeling generous I may as well), but any help or guidance is greatly appreciated.
