need help
Submitted by flash as on Fri, 2009-05-29 11:23hi guys,
it is my close friends anniversary of his 3 year olds sons death tomoro. Every anniversary he goes fishing. This year he is unemployed and my boats starter motor has died AND the coil snapped for the pull start. Is there any one going out tomoro on their boat that has room for one more. He struggles with life on this day and it would mean the world to the people that love him if he could go out and perform his little ritual of fishing on the day . Please guys put yourself in his shoes. At 24 years old he lost his only son. pm me or call on 0449627760
Thanks heaps
Jo

Dangers of Boating at Night
Submitted by Fozz on Thu, 2009-05-28 21:47On nightshift at the moment and just heard over the VHF that 6mtr quintrex has just run a ground on Conflict reef (Hampton Harbour, Dampier). All 5 onboard taken off to hospital with injuries and the boat high and dry until the AM high tide. Just goes to show you can never be too careful and one would think a boat this size would a have a sounder & gps onboard too.

Saturday
Submitted by fishing fanatic on Wed, 2009-05-27 19:55Hey me and some mates going fishing one Saturday. our choices are a night for sharks or anything like that of woodman point or going out on his boat during the day. what are ur recommendations? if it is out on the boat then we wont really be able to go out to far because it is only 4.2m. what sorta bigish or good fish are out there and were do we get em?and don't worry we don't eat any of the fish it just mainly for the fun and photos. so dont have to worry about us getting undersized or anything we don't care as long as it is fun that's y we want more bigger fish

Auction
Submitted by 7739ian on Wed, 2009-05-27 11:07Up for auction is the reel of Trilene i posted about yesterday. This was not what i ordered and i have bought braid to load my reels since purchasing this. This is a 2100m reel of 16.40kg Berkley Trilene Ultra Sensitive clear mono. Seems to be excellent line from the replys to my post and the online reviews. No point in me keeping it even given the number of bust offs from hooking Australia i seem to get. All proceeds to Fishwrecked and i will cover the postage - winner to preferably pay Fishwrecked direct or they can DD to me and i will pay or send Adam a cheque. Oops- closes when i fire up my computer on Tuesday morning June 2nd.

SWAN RIVER PRAWNS
Submitted by slothwan on Tue, 2009-05-26 19:50Hi all,
A story and £££questions about prawning
We where in our way back to the east freo "rip off" ramp after a Sunday arvo squiding session and saw a heap of people set up for prawning in Rocky bay.
Next night (Monday 25/05/2009) we thought we'd give it a go with scoop nets. I was amazed at how many boats where out.
(1) If anyone was there that night, is that a normal amount of boats?
Anyway, my mate got called into work :( so after an hour and a half we had caught 150 between us. a great feed and averge size was 15cm with a few biggies in there too.
It promted me to find out more about swan iver prawns and the best info after a short google search found this http://www.fish.wa.gov.au/docs/media/index.php?0000&mr=402
I'm assuming the prawns we caught where the king prawns. (2) is this true?
(3)Does anyone have more info on the life cycle of these prawns?
(4) What is the best time to catch them? Our effort last night where mearly a fuke
(5) how has the history been on th swan river prawns? good years/bad years etc?
Any info would be greatly appreciated

exmouth advice!!
Submitted by DhuieJ on Tue, 2009-05-26 16:26
Hi all, New to the site, however been a regular guest for bit of time now, I fish out of point peron so will probably bump into a few of you hopefully in the coming future.
I am chasing a little advice heading up to exmouth shortly and looking at trying to get onto some reds, and trout. Headed up last year without much success, seemed every local we spoke to had a different idea of where to head.
I understand no one will give you exact locations thats fair enough, however a general idea would be much appreciated.
Kind Regards
jay

Is this the best job in the Territory?
Submitted by Colin Hay on Tue, 2009-05-26 12:23It could possibly be the dream job of every fisherman around the Top End…
The Territory Government has appointed a new barramundi scientist to research and monitor this important fishery.
The Minister for Primary Industry and Fisheries, Kon Vatskalis, today welcomed Dr Thor Saunders to his role as senior research scientist at Berrimah Research Farm.
“Fishing is more popular in the Territory than anywhere else in Australia and it’s no secret the mighty barramundi is highly valued by all Territorians and has cultural significance for many Indigenous groups,” said Mr Vatskalis.
“Dr Saunders has been given the job to research this iconic fish to determine the numbers and age structure of barramundi across different waterways in the Northern Territory.
“He is also attempting to determine the environmental factors that are important in influencing the growth and reproduction of barramundi – which ultimately means big barra and more of them!”
Mr Vatskalis said the reputation of the iconic sportfish draws thousands of visitors and locals to the NT’s rivers each year in the hope of catching a barramundi over the magical one metre mark.
“The commercial fishery is worth more than $5 million to our economy every year while supplying fresh Territory barramundi to some of Australia’s top restaurants.
“We need to ensure that we have sound scientific information on barramundi stocks, so we can make informed decisions regarding the sustainable management of the fishery.”
