Preston Beach / Whitehills

Hey guys,
It's been flat out at work and was thinking of heading to Preston beach on Friday for a bit of a fish off the beach , might even consider doing White Hills ....

Its been a long time since I've been to preston ... anyone be there latley? The weather is looing good on seebreeze.com except the wind is onshore for most of the day turning to S SE in the arvo.....

Maye we may tangle with some salmon if we are lucky .. but going on most reports they are a few weeks away still.......

Sea Snake

Returning from a trip over to Koks island, mate called out"we've run over a big sea snake".Had a quick look ,saw nothing, felt nothing and no vibration we kept on our merry way. Arriving back in Carnarvon we pulled the boat out, dropped a pinkie off to and old couple and were taking photos at his caravan when his missus said "what's that?".Now we know where it got to or whats left of it.Never felt any vibration for the 20nm after we ran over it at 22knots

The Travelling Lure - a bit of fun

hey guys

i saw this idea on another forum and i thought it would be alot of fun and also very intersting.

the idea is, i will buy a lure (lure to be decided) and take it out for a fish, catch one (only one) fish and take a photo of it and post it up here (along with a little story). i will then pass the lure on to someone else, who will do the same thing, then they will pass it on etc..

if the lure is lost, snagged or damaged beyond reapir, the last happy fisherman must replace the lure with another equivalent and forward to the next fisherman.

this should be very interesting seeing how many fish we can get on the lure, and it can be posted all around the state (so the boys up north can show us up hahaha)and it will be a travelling lure, catching everythink from salmon down south to queenies up north.

What does everyone think?? sounds like fun yeah??

Hi guys i would like to know if anyone has any advice using lures land based and what type. I have read on here that poppers are good for taylor.

I want to try something different this comong weekend (going to try and find loonies)  i have some soft plastics but no lead heads will be getting some before the weekend. This will be the first time i will be using them. do i use a portenoster rig on the soft plastics or single hook rig?

Thanks

Nitro Rod Warranty

RST

G'day fellas, Where would be the cheapest place to do my RST?

75hp 2 stroke Suziki problem?

Hi Guys,

Went out on Sunday and my Suzuki just stopped around Point Peron. I was only running it at about half throttle and it just died?

Checked all the obvious - petrol, vents, lines, wires, plugs, but could not get it started, spark looked weak, but I was in midday sun.

Rescued by sea rescue after an older chap came and gave us a tow towards the ramp.

Pissed off about the days fishing, I sulked off home and when I tried the motor, it started first time??

I checked for loose wires, connections etc.. but nothing - tried to simulate the fault, but no way - just runs..

Anyone ever have a similar problem with the 85ish model suzuki?

Now I will always doubt the motor - anyone know a good suzuki mechanic that can take a look?

Rotto

Anyone happen to know if there have been many Macks and Tuna just around the back of rotto being caught at all??

Been pretty quiet on these fish!!

Cheers

Easter full moon - fish biting or not?

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts and predictions are for the full moon over Easter, do you think the fish will be biting or not?  Would be very interested to hear what you guys think before and after the event.

Cheers,

Adam

Rotto or the bank....

g'day fellas,

Have bit of a dilemma:) Planning on going out deep with a mate on Wednesday.  However, as I haven't done a lot of deep sea fishing (by deep I mean out to the bank or past rottnest) I don't have a lot of marks and we are indecisive on whether to try our luck out past rotto or going out and do some more exploring around the direction bank and beyond.

We are heading out from Mindarie Keys (if going to the bank) or Hillarys Marina if going to rotto.  We want to get into some decent bottom fish (dhuies, baldies, pinks) so the fads etc aren't a priority at the mo.

I guess the question I'm asking is do you think the ground out NW of mindarie would be a little more untouched than the ground behind rotto? (Just in general - rather than spot specific)

Hopefully this makes sense!

Cheers

Wobbegong Pot

Thought this pots was a little heavier then usual.  Are there different types of Wobbegong or are they all the same?  This appears not as light or spotted as others I have seen.  Are they any good to eat?

Gambusia Hunting

Gday all, probably a strange topic, but was wondering has anyone ever gone netting for Gambusia also called Mosquito Fish and Gambezi (obnoxious little freshwater guppy looking things that eat everything native)? Or anyone know of any little creek/drain systems where they might be found.

Why i ask is i have some bigger predatory aquarium fish that i like to feed them too. I have usually just caught them by hand net when fishing in the murray, blackwood and warren rivers when fishing for redfin.

Was trying to find a metro location to catch a couple. Though i know of a few likely locations, they are not the best for netting the little buggers. Becasue either
1: they are lakes, which make it hard to get them as they just swim out deeper. So prefer creeks of little water holes.
2: are in highly populated residential areas which makes me seem like a weirdo going in and netting for the buggers which would probably prompt someone to call the local ranger thinking i am chasing ducks or something, so prefer the sight to be out of the way.

Any locations or general areas i should check out would be greatly appreciated as i do love watching my fish hunt and i am not willing to pay the ridiculous price aquariums ask for them.

Cheers.

Buz.

New Penn 850's good as old Penn 850's?

I see around the place some pretty reasonable prices on Penn 850's. Are they the same reel as the one I bought 15 years ago because that has been an absolute pearler.

knife jaw ( oplegnathus woodwardi )

the kifejaw ( oplegnathus woodwardi ) is found in waters between 50m - 400m deep in the southern half of austrailia, it grows to 48cm in length. knifejaws are most commonly found in the great australian bight.

Fish id

Ziggy caught this fish off Hamlin bay. Pls dont say it was good eating as it was released..

More good salmon news

I have been reading and hearing some good reports of large salmon schools haunting the beaches in the Busselton to Margarent River area. Sounds like those heading south for Easter might be in luck.

Opinion on Penn Spinfisher Big Game Surf Rods.

I am looking at buying an 11 foot Penn Spinfisher Big Game Surf Rod. Has anyone had experience with these rods and jow do you rate them?

Great learning experience

Many thanks to Damo6230 for a great day out on the Blackwood yesterday teaching me a lot about bream fishing, the river and boat handling. Whilst i have fished the Blackwood years ago it was apparent i was lacking in several areas - that is just about everything. Damo was a very patient and helpful and a mine of information - if i retain 20% i will be 100% better fisherman. It is this sort of generosity that makes Fishwrecked members such as Damo an asset to the sport. Cheers mate.

Moorings in Dunsborough Eagle Bay and Bunkers Bay

Looking at spending a few days over easter in Dunsborough and looking to moor the boat. What is the ruling on moorings at Eagle bay and Bunkers bay . Are they all private moorings as I have observed some with identification numbers on and some with just floats unmarked.

Does anybody have the answer as i would hate to upset some Chardonay sipping family when  hooked up to there mooring.SmileCry

Living the dream- few month stay in Exmouth

Hey fellas
Well after a bit of driving with the boat and then returning for the caravan we've finally made it to Exmouth and parked up for a few months. If anyone's up here for a holiday in the next few months or lives here and is chasing a decky (fish or spear) let me know- always keen to head out with others. I've got my boat but being 15' it does limit on the iffy weahter days. Gonna be chasing the billies mainly until I cross one off the "to do" list then it's onto other challenges. Stay tuned for hopefully some good pics and weather. Been lucky so far with the weather and arvo glass offs, heading out to Tanta's this arvo for the first real marlin crack. We're staying in the Ningaloo Caravan Park in town if anyone's staying here. Flick me a PM if you want to catch up.
Tim
