2 rocks weather reports?

Hey just wondering where you guys get your weather reports for two rocks from?

Is it ok to take the weather report off sea breeze for Lancilin? or better for Perth?

Looking at heading out tomorrow morning, but the weather report for Perth isnt the best, but the Lancilin one is pretty good!!

Any info would be great!

Cheers

Record funding announced for boating facilities scheme

Media Release
The Liberal-National Government has set aside a record $1.7million and significantly increased the maximum amount that can be allocated as part of the Recreational Boating Facilities Scheme (RBFS).

Transport Minister Simon O’Brien said local government and other authorities could now apply for a maximum grant of $500,000, an increase of $200,000 on the scheme's previous limit.

Mr O'Brien said the increase was in response to the escalation in costs related to building maritime infrastructure.

In addition, local authorities would now be able to apply for up to 75 per cent of the total cost of minor works and planning studies and there would be an extended application period for these two categories. Funding for major works projects must still be matched dollar for dollar.

“We are also encouraging community members to approach their local authority if they have a proposal to improve or create a boating facility,” he said.

“The RBFS provides funding for new or improved facilities benefiting Western Australia’s growing recreational boating sector.

“Boat owners make a direct contribution to the ongoing improvement of facilities because the scheme is funded from boat registration fees.

“The RBFS gives recreational boat owners access to upgraded ramps, jetties and other facilities in key locations along the coast and on WA’s many inland waterways.

“Each project is monitored by the Department for Planning and Infrastructure to ensure the funds provide new and improved facilities of the highest standard, allowing improved access and increased safety for the boating community.”

The Minister said in the ten years since its introduction, the RBFS has seen $7.53million allocated to 189 projects throughout WA.

Recreational boaters in their community are encouraged to discuss proposals with the local government. Individuals can not apply for funds; applications can only be made by eligible authorities.

A brochure with information about round 14, application forms or more information about the RBFS can email the department contact them by phone on 9216 8917 or log on to the website at http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/rbfs

Applications close on April 2, 2009.

LB windy tactics

Ok, so a mate is in town and wanting to fish tomorrow night.  It's been blowing like mad every evening and tomorrow doesn't look any different.

So besides enjoying a few cold ones and watching the sunset, I'd like to catch a few.

In my limited experience, I haven't caught anything in windy conditions.

So what do you reckon?  I'm leaning towards hitting Hillary's north wall with southerlies on the go.  But what tactics do you use to catch fish in windy conditions?

cheers!

making own lead weights

lost a few paternoster rigs this week and the lead weights are a couple of bucks a throw. Does anybody make their own as I see you can buy the moulds to DIY, is it worth it and where do you buy the scap lead

Norman Moore announces success of methods to reduce demersal catch

Norman Moore, the Fisheries Minister for Western Australia, announced today that he was pleased with the results of his plan to reduce demersal fish catches over the last six weeks. Under the minister, fisheries have implemented a new method of reducing the demersal fish catches.  This new method involves modifying weather patterns to ensure that the vast majority of days are unfishable for offshore boaters due to strong government-implemented winds. Increased winds during the trial period have meant that only a few fishable days were experienced in the last six weeks.
"This new method is working really well" said the minister, "We have reduced the number of fishable days since the trial started to only a handful. Of course, even a few days over a month is completely unacceptable, so we will endeavour to reduce the number of days to zero over the remaining summer months. However, we are on track to have strong winds all next week".
When asked what the fisheries minister thought about boat users with larger boats and larger balls able to brave the conditions, he responded with "I dont have much concern about that as those boaters will be able to show everyone else what is out there, aggravating them further. We have also solicited the services of a few northern fishermen to supply photos of barramundi and other northern fish to further increase the envy quotient of southern fishermen".
In recent weeks, many fishermen have been forced to fish in inshore areas raising some concern that the V516 could be even further threatened. The minister was confident that there would not be too much concern as the goverment was ramping up its blowfish breeding program.

When a local fisherman was asked what he thought of all this he said "Well, hes better than that old minister who thought bottom bouncing was something that you did in rough seas. At least when he promised to review the V5 ban, he ended up not ratifying it. Its unusual for a politician to do such a thing, so we werent all that surprised to hear that the minister was responsible for this abnormal weather we have been having. Wait, wait, i'm on.... yes! Oh, its a blowie. *F&%!"

Ripped off

Something not fishing related. How ripped off are fathers at xmas time?We work 12+hours a day 6/7 days a week on the lead up to the so called break, then we get the old honey i bought the kids a present today.I could not pick it up can you take the trailer and get it.At this point you know you are screwed. It is one of two things 1.Too heavy to lift on your own or worse2. FLAT PACK.So here starts the fun you get home from work on xmas eve just to know that you need to put it together while the kids are asleep. Then you start to assemble it to find that the tight arse company that made it save money on screws so when you use a cordless drill it strips ,bends or snaps. Then when you finally get it together the little bastard at the Flat Pack co has thought i F@*k with this guy and throws in 3 or 4 screws to many. All finished go to bed get dragged out of bed in the morning by the kids and wife,go out to watch the kids open their pressies to get told to take pics of the kids faces .Then the kids get told that SANTA bought them the gift you slaved to put together(THE FAT LAZY RED SUITED BAST#@D DID SQUAT)Then you finally sit down to lunch to get told not to eat all the prawns that you worked overtime to catch or buy because the freeloaders that came over to eat all your food and trash your house might want more. Then they all go home and leave you the mess to clean up.Go to bed with the thought of going for a fish on boxing day or watch the cricket ,a smile creeps on to your dial just to get wiped off by the statement  I THINK WE WILL GO TO THE XMAS SALES TOMORROW I will need a hand with the kids.OOOHHHHH SH@T im screwed again. Then next year it will happen all over again GOD BLESS THE KIDS         You guys all have a GREAT XMAS and I will see you next year Have a safe holiday .Laughing

Who has the final say!

I'm taLking weather and "Who has the final say" on a Fishing Charter boat. So, i'd like your thoughts re this;

* Do you get told the "night before" your charter that the weathers average and its up to you, do you want to cancel or do you get told "its canceled"?

(2) Do you get told that morning "just before" your charter that the weathers average and its up to you, do you want to cancel or do you get told "its canceled"?

(3) Despite you being keen and the Charter company knows its going to be shit weather/bugger all fish will be caught would you be happy for them to make the "final decission" despite you not liking it?

My take, I used to work on Fishing charter boats and one thing that i used to see and still see at the present is disturbing. Knowing the winds are average, the chances of catching fish are low and the rate of sea-sickness will increase i dont beleive leaving that decission to them is right. Especially when they dont "work" on the water or have a full understanding so leaving it up to them re to "go or stay" doesnt sit well!

JMO, whats yours?

406MHz EPIRB deadline!

The 406 EPIRB deadline is very close with the 1st February 2009 being the cutoff to the old 121.5/243 MHz

All recreational vessels proceeding more than two nautical miles from the mainland shore (except in the metropolitan EPIRB exempt area) will be required to carry the 406 MHz Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB)

It’s recommended beacon owners and users take steps to replace 121.5/243 MHz EPIRBs with 406 MHz EPIRBs as soon as possible. The International Cospas-Sarsat system will cease satellite processing of 121.5/243 MHz beacons from 1 February 2009.

With one of the main EPIRB wholesalers being out of stock until after the cutoff date, i've then sourced the ACR 406 EPIRB from another main company . This model has another very important feature like being water activated which is great in a crisis situation where you just grab the EPIRB at it activates automatically on water impact but can still be triggered manually!

Normally selling for $679 but we've got them at $599 for a limited time. So, if you havnt upgraded then nows the time to do so and save some $$$. I purchased all what the supplier had and stocks are selling quickly, PM me for more info if required;

Some info & a picture to view;

Working hard bodies for bream

Hey Crew,

I've never really had much success when fishing for bream with hard bodies and I'd definately like to get one this trip.  Has anyone got any tips for how to work them, slow retrieve, bit of a twitch, combo twitches etc?  I have picked up a few different depth lures and different colours and sizes, but when it comes down to it will the bream still take shallower divers if the action is right?  I will be in Walpole and bream country so there will be plenty about, its just refining the technique as soon as I can to start racking up the numbers.  Any tips will be appreciated.

Cheers,

Adam

Kalbarri in March

I am thinking of heading up to Kalbarri in March to try some landbased fishing.

Has anyone had any experience fishing there at that time of the year?

I am wondering what the winds are like and whether there are still big tailor and mulloway around then.

Many thanks, Colin Hay

New Fishwrecked shirts

I picked up a couple of the new Fishwrecked long sleeved shirts the other day (that was my Christmas present to myself).
Really great shirts. Cut the wind right out, have lots of pockets - and most importantly - stops my arms and neck getting sunburned.

PS I was asked to model them - but with a body like mine I thought it best not to.

All the best, Colin Hay

I am dreaming of a fishing gear Christmas

WHO out there in Fishwrecked land is hoping to get some new fishing or boating gear for Christmas - and what are you hoping for?

I know Brett (Albee Mangles) got an early Xmas present when he picked up a new Twinpower recently.

If you had a generous wife, husband, girlfriend or boyfriend, what would you like them to get you for Xmas?

All the best for Christmas everyone and may 2009 be a great year for you all,
Colin Hay

Crays

We have been checking our pots as usual. Each time we pull them, we guess if it is a keeper, or a cacka.

Last week, we pulled a pot with a large cray in it. One bloke pulled the cray out of the pot while the other bloke said "Don't bother measuring him", so the bloke holding the cray immediately threw it back into the water!!!!!!!!!!

I suppose it was obvious to us, but we were pissed and amazed.

We now make sure that our instructions are abundantly clear

Regards

Willy

Christmas Closing Times

Hey guys,

Thought i'd let everyone know that for the 22nd, 23rd and 24th of December we will be open until 8pm each night.

So come down after work and get your last minute christmas presents, or grab some bait for the next day.

Doug
