Living it up in the sand hills north of Perth

Who says you have to rough it when you head off the beaten track for an early morning fishing session.

I am sure our South African members' mouths will be watering over this offering.

Sherbs' tailor doesn't look too bad either - well Choco on the right was pretty interested.

And here are the trusty steeds that took us on another fishing adventure.

Ok, so theres been little talk so far.

Since there was a similar thread last year, wondering what everyones plans are during the upcoming ban?

Hot topics from memory from last year were, Tailor, KG's sambos.   Anything different for anyone else?

Personally, think im gonna leave the boat out of the water for a while and give her some tlc.  Some much needed work required (like fitting a new tranny to read deep water:) ).   Also might give the fresh water stuff a bit of a play.  Probably the only boating stuff i may chase is Tailor on the reefs (Hlokk this is you :) ) and possibly some KG's on the back on the 5.

Everyone else??  Do the tuna start to heat up during this period?

23 kg pb dhu

State of Wedge beaches?

Hi all,

Possibly doing a quick run up there early next week for an overnight fish. Has anyone been up there in the last couple of weeks? Is there a lot of weed in the water at the moment?

Cheers,

Reels for the North West

Hey,

I am hoping to get a few ideas on what is the best reels, o/head and spin for bottom bashing around Exmouth. What does everyone else use? Is it a Saltiga, Stella, Twinpower, Avet, Certate etc. Just need a bit of direction.

New rod- Samurai NV8

Got my first custom built rod recently. You may have seen the recent report on how it went. It's a Samurai NV8 blank rated 8-10 kilos and 7 foot long. It's perfectly suited to 30lb braid which is what I got it for. It's mated up to a Shimano Stella 5000 SW with 30lb Whiplash.
I wanted a good spinning set up for chasing Tuna along with the other types of fishing I do. I just couldn't find a factory rod that suited what I wanted. This one is 100% Carbon. The rod builder was Paul Herron.

By the way I really like the Alps VX guides I got for this. The frame is marine grade (SS316) Stainless and the ring is Titanium Nitride coated Zirconia. It's harder than Alconite so it's not just for looks.

Here are some pics.

First trip to Gnaraloo

We are heading up to Gnaraloo Station this weekend for 6 nights, camping at 3 Mile Camp. Will have the yaks, as well as a 3.8m tinny. I'll be looking to head out wide and troll, say 1-3km out, as well as work plastics, lures and jigs around the inshore structure, what's around up there at the moment, and what do i need to know about the place? Any info would be great, i realise it will probably be breezy a lot of the time, blowing SSE mostly, so i'm expecting that. What's the 3 Mile Camp like? Is it rocky or sandy for the tent pegs!?

Any info or experiences would be great!!

Palau fishing

I am going to Palau [micronesia] in November for 2 weeks diving and holidaying.I intend to go on a fishing charter while I am there.

Has anyone been there or know anything about the fishing there.Ideally I would like to find a local amateur fisherman and pay them to take me out.

If anyone knows anything about the fishing there let me know.

Coral Bay - Land Based?

G'day folks!

I am finally heading up to Coral Bay for the first time next April.  I will only be there for 7 nights and leave on the Monday morning of the Fishwrecked comp, so hope to get up to Exy during that weekend and have a squizz at what's happening!  The reason for only a short stay is the missus isn't too keen to hang about too long with a 2 and 4 year old!  Hopefully it works out to be a bit of a recon mission for a 2012 trip to Exmouth!

Anyway - I am just after any tips, hints on where to go and what to use to catch me some fishies.  We will have a couple of 4x4 between us (Northseaa is heading up as well).  What are the best lures, SPs etc to use?  I want to start stocking up now!  As it's the first time up there, any sort of advise is appreciated!  Also any kid friendly spots to fish!

Cheers

Lancelin-Cervantes Stage 2 set to open next Sunday (September 19, 2010)

Portfolio: Transport

Transport Minister Simon O’Brien today announced Stage 2 of the Lancelin-Cervantes project, the final section of Indian Ocean Drive, would be officially opened by Premier Colin Barnett on Sunday, September 19, just in time for the school holidays.

“I am extremely pleased to say that not only has this project been delivered under budget, but also nine months ahead of schedule,” Mr O’Brien said.

“The new road between Lancelin and Cervantes will mean that, for the first time, an uninterrupted sealed coastal route exists all the way from Perth to Dongara and the coastal communities further north.”

The State Government fully funded the $95million project, which included the construction of 56km of new sealed road between Lancelin and Cervantes; 20km of side roads and improvement works on 9km of Pinnacles Drive; six stopping places at prominent tourist locations; and a viewing platform in the Nilgen Nature Reserve.

This is the first major project to be built under Main Roads direct management in the last 10 years.

The Minister said the project would have lasting economic and environmental benefits.

“At its peak, the project involved more than 150 people working on site. Main Roads also called on the assistance of local subcontractors. All of which brings great economic benefits to the region,” he said.

“As a result of our commitment to conservation, more than 20,000 new seedlings are being planted, while the utmost care was taken in designing a road that took environmental concerns into account. “

Mr O’Brien said the new coastal route, which overlooked the Indian Ocean, would be great for tourists and other light vehicles, as it separated them from the heavy freight traffic on Brand Highway.

“I wish all members of the Western Australian community who travel on this road a safe and enjoyable journey,” he said.

The new road link will officially open to traffic from 3pm on Sunday (September 19).

Exmouth in November

Evening All,

Shawcatch and I are planning a 5 night fishing trip from the 7th of November onwards, We will be land based only so looking for a good spot to hit.

Have done a bit of research and thus far Exmouth looks the goods, with plenty of options within 4x4 range.

But you'll never be able to beat local knowledge. So to everyone that lives in or has fished Exmouth in November, any feedback for us? We're both very green on the Exmouth area so have no idea on winds will be like that time of year, and i figure they are going to be our main issue.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.....

Cheers Simmo

Soft plastic fishing action tips

Hi all,

being a hard core bait fisherman, I am going to try to use some SP for demersals.
Have had a small amount of success using Lucanus jigs for demersals.

What action do you have to employ with the rod?
How do you keep a light 1-1.5 oz SP on the bottom when you are drifting?

Thanks in advance

Chris

Advice for planned trip to Exmouth

Hi all,

I've just bought a 3.8m roll-up type inflatable (with aluminium deck) and a second hand Tohatsu 25hp 2st outboard and I am thinking of a trip up to Exmouth in 2 weeks time to pop it's cherry (but hopefully not pop the boatYell). I've been to Exmouth before in April/May but that was just camping and LB fishing in Cape Range NP.So i'm looking for a bit of advice on what I could expect in terms of weather and fishing at this time of year.

I'd be looking to camp in the NP again (hopefully Pilgrammuna so we can throw the inflatable in) and then just probably heading to inside or just outside the reef, as the outboard is 2nd hand and don't want to take it too wide until I've assessed it properly.

Probably easier if I just sum up what I'm asking in a few points:-

1. What is the weather (esp. wind) like in Exmouth at the end of Sept?

2. What is the fishing like and any advice on some fairly easy stuff close in. Was thinking i'd prob just be doing some trolling and bottom bashing.

3. How likely am I to get a decent spot at Cape Range NP, especially given that I will be there over the school holidays (although will be leaving on Friday and hopefully arriving early Sat. - 25th)

4. How easy will it be to launch and retrieve the inflatable at Pilgramunna given that I haven't yet invested in a folding trailer or dolly wheels?

I realise this is a bit of a broad question - I guess i'm just looking for anything, even just some general advice esp. from some Exxy locals so I can decide if this trip is a good idea.

Cheers in advance for any advice

kids kite fishing

Just had a laugh wit a guy i use to be friends wit as a lil kid, i seen at the shops. Doesnt have anything to do wit fishin but as 12 year olds we use to get his dads beach rod wit probs about 300 metres of line plus and tie our big w bought kites onto it. If ya wanted it higher just let the line out if you wanted it in just reel, very smart way of flyin a kite. One day we let all the line out and it just came right off the reel and over powerlines south st and north lake road.  haha any of use do this as kids or we the only silly ones?

First trip to Greenhead by tinny .... Any tips for a novice angler

Hi everyone

I have just joined up to the forum and recently bought my first tub a 4.1 allyraft with 30hp yamaha. I have taken it out from woodys point about 7 or so trips so far for not that much success. One dui fair few skippy whiting and flathead but no elusive snapper yet. I have been fishing stragglers and once at five fathom.

I am goint to Greenhead for work for a couple of weeks and i would much appreciate any advice on fishing the area. Also does anyone know where to get laminated charts in perth. eg.. cockburn sound.

cheers bakes
