plans have changed due to cost and look like im going to shark bay next july instead of maritius..

i will suss out a charter but i wanna get into the landbased fishing up there aswell

an expierences and help on what to chase, rigs, spots and any info would be great!

I quite like making videos of my trips and try to incorporate some sort of music most of the time but the music i listen to doesn't really suit the fishing style. Soo this is the question.

What does everyone like listening to when either fishing or watching fishing? Am going to build up a library for future trips.

Also does everyone prefer commentary only, music only or a bit of both?

Just wondering what everyone's Christmas/New Years fishing plans are?  I'm heading to Denmark/Walpole to do lots of river fishing and maybe the spot of offshore if the weather permits.  Can't wait for the changeup of game gear to light tackle black bream from the snags.  Hopefully will get some good snaps.

Im stopping over in Kalbarri for a few days while on the way to Coral Bay. Ive been checking the forecast and it looks bad for boating, so I thought I would try some land based.  Anyone got any reports on whats happening there?

It was decided we could bash out to Rotto and grab the cray pots after work.... almost the most insane thing Ive ever done!
So down at freo sailing club we met and went out...

By the way we went out in a centre console.........

I can now say i have a new appreciation for the waters around rotto.

60km winds are NOT fun.... Airborne off more waves than i count...drank about 40,000 litres of salt water...

Cant say Ive been in chop that bad before... with the waves standing upright near rotto atleast 3 metres....massive!!!

After Scano piked on me on 1 trip, and i can atleast say he has hardened up a little now.

Lucky we were in a big boat with plenty of grunt....or we would not have bothered getting the pots!! managed to travel at 23 knots over and 23 knots back.

and only 8 crays in the 2 pots we pulled......and had been in for 5 days.

Well today arrived my new Panasonic Lumix TZ5 digital camera. Just wondering if anyone else has this camera or any of it's predecessors and could give me some feedback? pros, cons? things to be wary of? it looks awesome! can't wait to get out and get some good pics. Hoping it will take some great shots.

Hope the weather holds up and the sea is flat .I think I will make an effort tomorrow and find me some fish. ,as christmas is near ,and the frezer is empty. Anyone else heading out.

hey guys i'm thinking about goin 2 carnavon ova christmas never been their b4 so i wil b takin my 15ft boat so i'm just lookin 4 places 2 go n fish and best places 4 accomodation what i can expect 2 catch ?weather conditons and anything i need 2 know thanxs

Just a heads up, went to Trigg point this morning and fished from 11am to 12.30 and caught and release 4 salmon all around the 2kg mark, And hooked one hooter which I think was a tailor but jumped and threw the hooks.

No pics unfortunately as it was a solo mission.

Added: all the fish came from one area, and if you cast just out of the spot you get zilch.

a mate n i were fishing just behind the break at coventrys reef a few days ago and there were heaps of king fish comin round for our burley we tryed everything -mulies slices poppers minnows plastics but they wernt interested. we only managed to get 1

was wonderin if anyone has a fav lure or technique for kingys expecially at covs...

What are the best lures for tuna between 10-20kg and the occasional bigger one when either casting or trolling? I've heard small metal lures when chasing bait schools and small skirts when trolling have had some good success. Anyone got anything to add?

Don't know what the rest of you guys think, but the first 30 days of Cray season would have to be one of the best in the last 5 years.

The size and quantity of Crays has been outstanding.

After catching so many good size crays, any cray under 80mm carapace size looks undersize.

We have had no pro's working off White Hills so maybe thats why the stocks are a lot better this year?

Just went to Augusta (WA) a few days ago looking for greenlip abalone. This was my first time, but my dad, who was a second timer :P managed to find the place that he went his first time (15 years ago lol...so prolly not the right place). Anyway, 50 minutes in, i still hadn't found anything...i was looking at the places where the rock was bare (and was about 50-100 m swim out) and water about 3 m deep. I managed to snag one...just over size. I was just wondering if i was looking in the right spots (like...not in the grassy areas) and its just the wrong time of the season....or if i was looking in the wrong spots. Are abalone actually that hard to find these days. Apparently, 15 years ago, when my dad first went, he was looking in a similar spot, but you could see loads. What happened???

The greenlip was good for dinner though :P :) :)

and which of these types have worked best for them?

starting to target tailor more without bait now so would love to know everyones personal preferences

Just picked 18.5 footer on the weekend and started out on the river over the w/e having a bit of fun an getting used to the boat itself.

Havent had to much experience boat fishing on the ocean and am wondering where to start and what to chase. I will be using the hillarys boat ramp mostly when i head out to sea so any help for areas around there will be great. I have a furuno sounder and GPS on board but not sure how to use them 100% yet so i guess ill be learning as i go!

Any direction and help would be greatly appreciated.

Just wondering what everones methods are when using wire for macks, either for casting or trolling. Most importantly what lb, what length and what type? Would also be interesting to hear who out their isn't using wire.

just wanted to know how anyone did on crays on sunday?

i went out saturday with a mate, in 16 metres, got 10 rippers on one tank, in awesome vis, and called it a day.

went out on sunday with 2 mates, 2 tanks each ( 6 dives ), same area but different lump, and struggled to get 4 sized.

does it have anything to do with the moon? have they started walking? howd you all go?

The Liberal-National Government has fulfilled yet another election commitment and officially opened Logue Brook Dam for recreational use.

Premier Colin Barnett, Water Minister Dr Graham Jacobs and Murray-Wellington MLA Murray Cowper today reopened the dam for recreational use after it was closed by the previous government.

“The reopening will enable local residents and people throughout the State to again enjoy swimming, fishing and waterskiing at Logue Brook Dam,” Dr Jacobs said.

“Unlike the previous government which made decisions based on political convenience or emotional grounds, we have based our decision for the future of Logue Brook Dam after reviewing and assessing all the relevant facts.”

The dam is currently registering higher than average levels due to recent rains and has been assessed as safe for waterskiing and other activities.

About 30,000 people a year are expected to visit Logue Brook Dam.

With Sunday (yesterday) looking pretty good weather wise, I was stoked to get an invite to head out of Point Peron with the Faulkner Family.
With an easterly blowing we headed out in pretty flat seas to the 90's to try some of Russ and Sandy' spots and it was looking real good when Nathan hooked into a nice little pinky within minutes. The bite went a bit quiet after that the wind and te currents were mucking around with the drift, but Russ managed a very nice Queenie.
Sandy and I had the prime spots on the boat but were struggling to get a bite until the tip of my xzoga rod finally started bouncing. Unbelievably it turned out to be a Skippy. It was a nice size, but I tell you those things follow me everywhere.
We decided to head out deeper to the Derwent and arrived to find Bluejuice with a jigging charter on board and and another smaller boat in the area.
A few drifts saw Sandy score a very nice pinky and then Russ and I were onto a double header. There was a little bit of weight to these fish, but not much fight. 200 metres of winding later and the result was a pair of gummy sharks.
After few more bites and being buzzed by the Bluejuice a few times we decided to head in a bit closer to try some KG ground.
We had seen quite a few birds working during tyhe day, but the fish had been a bit shy under them.
I spotted a bigger flock working on the way to the KG grounds and we decided to investigate after seeing some big splashes underneath them. It turned out to be a sizeable school of dolphins wroking to round up a school of fish and we spent a memorable half an hour watching something you would normally see on a nature show.
Sandy and Russ got some great shots with their camera, particularly when the doplhins decided to see what we were up to and come right up to the boat. Russ even manaded to get some great underwater bvideo action of some of the dolphins. It was fantastic.
After that amazing event, we dediced to continue to the KG grounds, but were soon chasing another flock of working birds that Sandy had spotted. This time it was tuna and a big school and we were soon into the action. We had some exciting trolling action with the Southern Blue Fins hitting the lures hard.
After catching out fill and having a "Bloody" great time we moved on to the KG grounds for a short visit before deciding it was time to head home. Interestingly we had a visit from the Water Police who came alonsgide to check to see if we had all the safety gear, skippers tickets and rego. They were friendly enough and we were soon back at the Point Peron ramp.

Russ, Sandy and Nathan, thanks for a fantastic day. The weather was good, the fishing was great, the company was even better and we saw some amazing things. What more could you ask for.

i'm looking at getting my diving ticket through divingfrontiers.com.au.  Has anyone done the mindarie dive course they offer? If so would u recommend them?

Like to hear what oil/ grease you use to lubricate your reels with?

Would regular stuff do the trick just as well? 

How often would you oil them to keep them in tip top shape?

had a look there today and bought around 85 bucks worth of stuff including a new sp rod. got home about an hour ago and i dropped the rod on the pavement getting it out of the car and it snapped in half?!?!?!?!?!?. it was a SHAKESPEARE SYNERGY 7' sp rod and it cpst me 30 bucks reduced from 90. theyve got a few live fibre rods reduced from 160 to $60

with the coming of summer the fishing at hilarys is starting to pick up (finally!)

after months of nothing we finally got some tailor this morning just next to spinnakers and saw them chasing baitfish etc

none were caught on bait

all caught on chromies and minnows

I only managed 1 tailor on chromie

but the guy next to me caught afew tailor and salmon on a r2s minnow.

Is the spool of the reel ment to come loos and move from side to side when in freespool.

Because mine does and the larger sizes dont do what mine does, and this makes me lean the reel to one side to have the ratchet working.

If this wind decides to drop this week going to take the boat out wide so probably looking for a deckie or two if you have your sea legs and gear.

find some spots,set the drift and get some fish.On 3 weeks holiday so planning on doing some fishing.
