Topwater action Mackerel Islands mini clip

More Mackerel Islands action, fishing Rosily Cay for the big GTs we've heard to much about. Absolutely stunning spot to cast a stickbait and fishy as hell.
While we had glimpses of big Gs we never pinned one, but we did get onto a couple of metre plus Queenies which defintely get you pumped.

Is there anything better in fishing than watching pelagics hit surface lures right at the boat? If so, I'd like to try it haha.

Mackerel Islands GT on popper mini clip.

Have just started sorting through footage from my latest Mackerel Islands trip.
Can not speak more highly of the place, absolutely loved it.

Instead of making the token edit of the trip I'm just going to make small easy to digust mini clips for those of us with short attention spans (me inlcuded)

We threw poppers and stickbaits a couple of times during the week having a little success, on the last day we really set out to nail a decent GT. Casting just behind the swell line on one of the small islands we pretty much drove straight into a school and scattered it. I'd like to say that I finally ticked off the big G I've been after for years but it wasn't to be. Chris my mate was blooping big cup faced poppers on PE8 and I was throwing stickbaits on PE4. The fish were all over the poppers and were not interested in the stickbaits at all. Alas another time.

Here's the clip.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vew6Ejhsjgs

Filmed on a Gopro 4 in 2.7K which is absolutely awesome, but I mainly edited this for Instagram (kwillo89 is my name)so it was output in 720P to get the zoom on the strike. The next clips will be in full 1080P and it looks unreal.

Topwater Tuna action in Costa Rica

Months ago I took a trip to Costa Rica and wrote a little report here  http://fishwrecked.com/forum/costa-rica-tuna-sailfish-trip-photos-video

Now I've finally finished my little edit of the fishing.
Short of it is, chasing Spinner Dolphins around for Yellowfin Tuna, once located start throwing stickbaits and plastics at busting fish and then shout with excitement at the awesome surface strikes..
Pay close attention to 1.22
Pretty damn good

https://youtu.be/vK6p_82b4Eg

Filmed mostly with a Gopro Session 1080P at 60FPS Protune on (not entirely stoked with the picture quality, alot of noise and bad shading)
Watch in HD and it still looks great though.
Cheers,
Kurt

PB KG Warnbro Sound

My son and I had planned to head out towards the Sisters chasing KG's on Wednesday morning but with morning temps hovering around zero it was the very gentlemenly time of 10.30am before we finally got the boat in the water and headed out across the bay from Bent St. with a building Northerly behind us.

With a fairly decent chop and murky water it was difficult to pick a spot between the weed patches so we just played it safe and stuck fairly close to the islands for our first drop, confident that we were on a sandy bottom and wouldn't be continually hooking up on weed.

It was only a couple of minutes before the chicken laying pellets were doing their thing and we started to bring in a few nice Sand whiting - not huge, but nice and fat - perfect size for a few fillets - but not the KG's we were hoping for.

The wind had calmed down a bit so we decided to head North East towards the Markers and look for our preferred ground of sand and weed patches.

As we were pretty close to the Sisters we decided to motor over just for a look see along the reef before we relocated to our new spot. To our surprise a school of maybe 50 -  100 Salmon passed under the boat but before we could scramble to get a lure on the one and only rod on the boat up to the challenge they were long gone - but things were looking up.

We headed back over towards the markers and managed to find a nice spot of ground. After a couple of minutes on anchor we had our first KG on board - not a huge one at around 32cm but it was a good start.

Rio started to bring in a few nice size Herring - Awesome! We had an order for a minumum of twelve from the wife for Thai Fish cakes so we knew we would be in for a warm welcome when we got home.

Next up I had a mighty hit on my high tech $19.95 Compleat Angler kids combo and I could hardly believe my eyes when a snake of a KG hit the surface. Rio swooped in with the net and I was wrapped to crack a personal and boat best KG that just managed 40 cm on the ruler.

With my mouth drooling at the the thought of big KG fillets deep fried in virgin olive oil and beadcrumbs we fished on and managed a few more nice KG's and our target of twelve Herring before the crap fish moved in and we decided to up stumps and call it a day.

Very simple rigs - just a sliding ball sinker running up to a wide gap hook and fresh frozen Safety Bay squid for bait.

A great day out and you could eaily reach this spot in a small boat (weather permiting of course) - heck you could kayak it from Port Kennedy if you're keen but there's quality fish out there - I wouldn't have believed you could get KG's that big in the Sound if I hadn't seen it for myself.

We'll be back...

Swimming with a Humpback Whale and sharks everywhere

A stupid nerve/hand injury is keeping me from working and leaving me bored at home so I've been editing up a fair bit of fishing footage.
A few years ago while camping at Steep Point we awoke to a Humpback lazily sunning itself a few hundred metres off the beach. We could not resist a look and a hello in the water. I only recently found my original footage of this (filmed with an old gopro and leaky UW housing) and thought it deserved a quick edit and defintely some slo-mo to give you idea of how close we got and how big these beautiful animals are.
Something I'll never forget is that big giant eye looking straight at me, experience of a lifetime.

cast baits and sliding for sharks

On our last trip up north the gutters were very quiet but after putting some decent cast baits and slides out back we soon found out the men in the grey suits were still lurking and weren’t messing around breaking our backs and pulling some serious string! enjoy

Bunker bay Salmon session, filmed with DSLR

After a 6 week stint of work and constantly hearing about the salmon action I was keen as mustard to get down south and throw some lures. Was taking my Dad and girlfriend out and the main goal was to try and get some fish and have a play filming with my DSLR. Awesome day out, caught a heap of fish, had decent schools everyone and even a pod of dolphins helping to round up fish. Pretty happy with the footage compared to the usual gopro stuff.

Enjoy.
