Yes very jealous! There seems to be plenty of reports of fish in Albany area but very little talk of any between capes. Looks like we might have to detour via Albany if we want to have some fun this year.

Few Fish
A few fish have been spotted this side of the Cape but have been hard to tempt , swimming past live herring ,hard body lures , softies . Some Salmon have been caught from boats around Bunkers , but overall not much action. Plenty of bait ( herring , Gardies , hardyheads etc ) so plenty to keep them here when/if they do arrive , I personally recon 2-3 weeks...

Bunbury
Had a school of around 30-40 fish all around 2-3 kgs swim past the boat of bunbury today. Could not tempt them with a metal slice

Fished Elephant Rock this
Fished Elephant Rock this morning. No Salmon. Heaps of herring. Checked out Deepdene, Cosy Corner beach, Foul Bay, Hamelin and Boranup and didnt see a single Salmon or school of them. So maybe the 'firing' is more people picking up individuals passing through?

Was a small school at Bunkers
Was a small school at Bunkers today near the Farm. Not many in it though and no one got any out of the school i saw despite many casts landing infront of them. Dropped in at Castle Rock on the way home and saw a group of guys with 6 or 7 fish. Again no big schools but very small groups going through apparently.

No salmon
around Hamelin/Foul bay this morning. But Zillions of Herring
Had a quick chat to the pros there and it doesn't look like the 'run' will pass Cape Leeuwin anytime soon.
I'd say for sure that any fish that are seen/caught in the capes region are residents schooling up waiting for the 'run' to arrive.
Another 2-3 weeks would be my guess before we see any decent numbers.

No Salmon at Injidup either. Again there were loads of herring and I landed 2 nice sized tailor which was a bonus.
My daughter caught loads of sand whiting too.

Got onto some Salmon today at
Got onto some Salmon today at Deepdene finally! I landed two and the missus landed two from one school of about 50 fish. The school then moved further offshore and out of casting distance. They were big fat fish up around the 6-7kg size. Had one other school go through of about 50 fish also but they stayed out of casting range the whole time. Also managed to get a heap of big bull Herring. We also had a few schools of big mullet go through that got me a bit excited each time thinking they were small Salmon. The two Salmon schools were heading south towards Augusta though.

Injidup
OK so I thought I'd try Injidup again today. Thought I'd at least get some more Tailor.
After about a half hour of nothing I was hit by a 6.5kg Salmon which I promptly landed to a round of applause from a group of onlookers on the beach!
There were plenty of people fishing but it was the only Salmon of the day, it must have been a loner lol.
Suffice to say I came away a very happy fellow.

Plenty of salmon around the capes now. Caught 3 yesterday and 8 today. Seen some very big schools heading south today. Seems like they are really starting to fire up between the capes. Another week and they should be thick.

Salmon update
Just got back after a week of salmon hunting. We managed to find fish every day. Hamlins was a bit slow however I spoke to some fishos who managed to get into some. Cosy corner produced a handful of fish but the standout spot for us this week was Contos. Had some massive schools swim passed with triple hookups not uncommon for the 3 of us fishing. Had the rocks to ourselves pretty much all week. From what I seen I would say the next month is gonna be very productive for fishos between the capes. Good luck to all.

Lots of Fish
Good numbers of Salmon over the whole weekend , big (ish) swell on the West Coast kept most Fisho's in the Bay , most were able to get onto them , with some periods of Mayhem with Birds , Dolphins , Bonito and Salmon going off , Crowd Factor generally was not to Bad , will hit em again at lunch time today...

Manners??
Got 7 today between Castle rock and Eagle bay dropped a few also. Got them from the boat outside of shore based casting range.
Saying that there were heaps of small schools close enough in to keep the rock hoppers entertained.
A few whinges though!!!
Bloody inconsiderate people in boats getting too close into the shore where people were fishing from. All this did was annoy the lads ashore and then scare the school of fish off.
Also clowns again in boats driving over the top of schools and forcing them down. I had one bugger do it to me three times on one patch. We ended up packing it in a finding another school away from the bloke. Why can't people sit back and cast into the fish? If we all did this we could share the wealth.
Please remember your manners during the madness that can be Salmon season down this way. Hopefully there is more than enough for everyone to get into them over the coming days/weeks.

I was there all day managed 0
I was there all day managed 0 salmon but got 1 bust off from a monster that almost pulled me clean off the rock. They wern't playing the game for most of the day there sitting further out with most anglers giving up in frustration and moving on to somewhere else. I also couldn't get the cordination right with the long casts since I am a jett rat and am unfamiluar with any rod over 7ft, kept dropping the lure behind or in the middle of the school rather than infront of it ( was useing my new Starlo 9ft ).
How did those chaps on the corner near the sticking out rock fair up ? They were there all day too but didn't see them land any.
I left at 4pm Doh !

The fellas on the big rock
The fellas on the big rock were hooking up but i only saw them land the 1.They are certainly big salmon, you will have to do a bit of casting practice mate the guys fishing with me couldnt reach either. I use a Penn 4500 liveliner with 15pnd line with an old school 10ft ugly stick proven salmon slayer. Was using mulies and bait casting but will try lures next trip, the other guys were catching heaps of bull herring which also went great in the smoker with a few beers last night.heres a tip for those using mulies, cast at the school let the mulie sink to bottom(use a small sinker on your trace that runs down to the hooks) then give it a twitch fish cant resist.seems to work when fish are running south an old timer put me onto this technique years ago and works 99% of the time.
Cheers

Smilin Jacks were working the best yesterday both trawled and flicked in amongst them. Had no luck with poppers or slices though.
They were fairly deep at Pt Piquet one lot we saw were right down on the bottom (9 meterish from memory) and well out of shore based range.

Plenty around the top of the cape on both sides. They are all up and down between the capes. Heaps of people go to the dunno side because it is easy to fish since there is little swell and the rocks are not too bad. Smiths beach is the way to go if you want a easy fish on the other side.
