Above the 26th Parallel - August 2011
Submitted by Albee Mangles on Thu, 2011-07-07 18:41
During my time yakking, i've got an immense amount of pleasure through the many short movies i've made on Youtube, and people have often said to me, "you should make a movie!"
Well, i have!!!!!
Above the 26th Parallel is my first full length feature movie, well semi-full length at just under 40 minutes! Its based around the Western Angler/Yakfishwest Wilderness Island Yak Safari of 2011, and you may see a few familiar faces. It has footage from what would be the best days yakking i've ever had, with some cracking Queenies and Golden Trevally, as well as some ripper fish caught by Matt Checksfield during his week at the Island. There is also, shock horror, some great footage from Jims boat, and even some hot landbased action from the island itself. I've got some great bands onboard who have contributed their music in John Butler Trio and aussie hip hoppers Bliss n Eso, so huge thanks to those guys! Also massive thanks to Western Angler for making the trip a reality, and of course Jim Alstom at Wilderness Island, for providing an amazing week of fishing!!
The video below is the Teaser for the full length vid, which will be available for purchase from mid August for a measley $10!! Also in Mid August, i will be having a release screening of the movie at the FTI Cinema in Fremantle on August 16th, followed by drinks at Clancys Pub, i hope all of you will be able to come along. This DVD Release is fully self funded, and not a money making enterprise!!
So please, enjoy the teaser, let it wet the appetite for the full movie, ive been keeping this hush hush for long enough!!!
As always, watch in HD, and crank it up!!

Awesome night!!
Huge thankyou to all who came along last night, we were 10 seats short of a sell out with over a hundred people cramming Fremantles FTI Cinema!! Was a real buzz to see my work on the big screen, really inspiring, and the support from the Yakfishwest community, with around 30-40 forum members along for the show was amazing, as well as the local fishing folks, guys i truly appreciate the support!!

Reels
My son and i both enjoyed the movie, the rods certainly get a caning, and due to your proximety to the water and the close in fighting i was surprised by no breakages. What size range of reels were you using Brett? i will be heading up that way shortly and plan on using a certate 3000, i have a 2000 also but fear it to be too small, cheers for any info, John.

Glad you guys enjoyed it!
Think i spoke to you guys on the night?
The main rod seen is the Nitro Viper with a Sol4000, 15lb Braid 20lb Leader. Its pretty much the lightest id use for the big Goldens and Queenies in that area as keeping them of the rocks can be tough. You do get a few random bite offs up there to on light leaders as well. A certate 3000 will probably be okay.
On the flats areas the lighter outfits should be fine tho, as theres lots of room for them to run, theres lots of smaller fish up there, but every now and then the big boys come along and it willget interesting. For most yak work, i used a 15lb and 20lb outfit, and it covered all bases, in the creeks i dropped to a 12lb rig for smaller HB's for big bream, Javelin fish and jacks.
I'm biased, but one reason i love the Nitro's is they are tough as nails, and can handle the inevitable hi-sticking that occurs when kayak fishing!
