I think Freo will finish top 4 Frosty, with the Cats sliding a little. Hopefully the Eagles will do a bit better but ongoing injuries are a concern. I take nothing out of the pre-season games.

Freo will certainly not make the 8 based on what I saw in a coupe of quarters watching them yesterday. I'd usually say it is too early to tell but their method of ball movement will not win games of football against any of the teams in the top half/2 3rds of the comp. Didn't see the west coast game, but would suggest they are going to struggle again from what I heard of it on the radio.

AFL defends non-free kick decision with fake video
It appears that the AFL, in their attempt to take some attention off the umpires for not paying the Free Kick at the end of the Freo vs Norths game, have doctored the audio to make it seem like the siren went earlier than it actually did.
On Sunday morning, the AFL tweeted a video they said had been released from ARC Vision which showed the siren had sounded before the Norths kick out of defence had gone across the boundary line. But the audio was about 1 second advanced compared to the actual broadcasted video (available on the AFL website).
When this became a point of issue, the AFL then came out with another narrative that the broadcast video was actually 1 second delayed. The ARC Vision video was accurate.
But if you watch the AFL ARC vision, the audio does not match up to some of the video footage. For example, when the North's player kicks the ball out of defence in the dying seconds, the umpire calls "yours" as the ball is hitting the players foot (a second too early). In the actual broadcast footage, the umpire correctly and as expected calls "yours" as the ball is in flight a second after the kick out of defence. You can also see the North players celebrate immediately when the siren sounds in the actual broadcast video, while in the (doctored) AFL ARC footage, the players take that extra second to react to the sound of the siren.
If the AFL had have just said the umpires believed the ball was out when the siren went, it would have been less of an issue than what they have now gone and made it with their attempts to cover it up.

Blue Kaiser you are wrong. I
Blue Kaiser you are wrong. I don't support either team but was there to enjoy a game of footy. I was sitting not far from where the ball went out and could clearly see the ball when the siren went. It was without a doubt still in play. If you want to imagine some sort of AFL conspiracy then that is up to you, but it won't change the fact that the ball had NOT crossed the boundry line.

Watch the two replays
Anybody can still go and watch the two different replays of the siren going.
There is the doctored 1 second advanced version put out the day after by the AFL (the ARC vision which can be found in the AFL's twitter history) in which even the umpire calling the actual kick (saying "yours" to the downfield umpire) by the North's player is also advanced 1 second ... showing the audio has definitely been stuffed about with.
And then there are numerous versions of the actual real footage still available on the AFL website, the full match replay, the last 2 minutes and other snippets of the event where you can hear the siren go when the ball has crossed the line.
Anybody disputing this simply has not bothered to look at the information available. You can clearly see the players reactions and umpires calling siren aligns with the ball being over the boundary line.
But again, I never had much of an issue with the umpire or anybody else judging this wrongly, it was the AFL's attempt to go the cover up for the umpires that was most concerning ... that is, to those who find Fake News and misinformation from authoritative powers to be an issue.

I was there, the siren went
I was there, the siren went BEFORE the ball was completely over the line, there is no AFL coverup.
There was no free kick to be paid and no need for the AFL to doctor anything.

Ever played footy? The game
Ever played footy? The game is played to the umpire's whistle. The siren went before the ump blew his whistle so no free kick. Simple as that.
If the siren goes and the full back flattens a forward on the way off he doesn't get a free kick and shot on goal.

Exactly, Jackfrost.
The siren had sounded prior to the ball crossing the line, the umpy is not going to blow his whistle to award a free kick, the game was over.

Read the laws
If you had read the Laws of AFL and understood them, you would not have made that comment.
10.5(b) clearly states the umpire is to call end of play when he hears the siren but can still pay a Free Kick if it happened in the umpires opinion immediately prior to the siren.
Likewise, an umpire can still pay Free Kicks after the siren for such things as a 50m penalty or another infringement downfield when a player is having a set shot at goal after the siren.

Not Hard
It isn't hard to coach against a team that never tries to gain any territory..... They had a chance to respond after the first round and the criticism of their ball movement, and playing the basketcase of the AFL from the last 5 years, they come out and dish up the same shit, constantly kicking laterally in their back half and giving the opposition as much time as they want to set up behind the ball. If you're not willing to take any risks, you'll never get any reward unfortunately. While North were still very sloppy with their ball use, they at least tried to move it with some pace and break the lines and did so eaisly on occasions. The confidence will come with time and they'll get destroyed by better opposition but they are at least having a crack.
The only time Freo looked remotely dangerous in the whole game was with 4 minutes to play when the game essentilly looked to be out of reach.... Low and behold due to the circumstances of the game, they had to take some risks and all of a sudden the defence were under pressure and they looked like they had the potential to score.
The game has evolved in the last 2-3 years and it seems like the rest of the competition have taken another step forward while Freo (I know its still early days) look to have reverted to a popular game plan from 5-10 years ago. I want Freo to do well for once but F@*# me, they certainly make for tough viewing and I couldn't imagine how it would feel to be a supporter!!

Agree, I keep hearing of
Agree, I keep hearing of there strong defense model which has served them well...but there attack has stalled which has always struggled. Real mix up with players finding there groove with the new changes in the side.
But as you say the model seems to be based on the lateral Hawthorn (Clarkson) then West Coast (Simpson) model which done well years gone...
If they pull that same shit again this week I recon West Coast will pull an upset sending TV purchases up in the Fremantle area.

Yep!
Absolutely. And while individual talent also isn't the be all and end all in a team sport, I also think their list is mediocre at best with very limited high end talent. I think it's going to be very tough to try and change their game plan now with the players that they have, and be competitive through the season.
Teams like Bulldogs on the other hand appear to be playing a similar brand but probably have the talent to change the way that they play with some level of success.... Mind you I've thought Bulldogs would have been a much more competitive team over the last 2-3 years on talent alone but have failed to deliver.
Anyways.... I'll continue to be an armchair expert :)

Was thinking they would jump back into the 8 for sure, with Lobb joining the forward line its a tough ask for any back line.
Could be a struggle with injury and getting the season up and running.
Had Saints to make the 8 also...if not close but looks like injury is hitting them also.

Were were looking pretty good
Were were looking pretty good and it was an entertaining free flowing game but we just ran out of legs and the pace of Frederick and co simply chopped us up. Turnovers by foot continue to kill us and Barrass get found out everytime on the breakout lead.
A few postives though was Chesser's best game but he definitely lacks polish. Ginbey continues to impress but still seems a bit hesitant to throw his weight around into the contest when the ball’s on the ground. Hewitt is one of those players you love that just attacks the footy but again lacks polish but would love to see of him rather than coming on as sub. Noah Long has a very high footy IQ and can find the ball and make great decisions under pressure, seems to be a good find at pick 50 something. Something seems to have finally clicked for SPS as he’s playing with a bit of dare and dash. Looks like Darling and Oscar have a bit more synergy in the forward 50 rather than the last two rounds where they were regularly going for the same ball. The old boy Hurn racked up a lazy 27 possessions at 81% efficiency, could easily go another season at 36 years old! I love Hunt's run but his disposal always has been and continues to be average. No gaining 70m only for it to rebound 120m onto an opposition leading forward's chest

Jack..... Why would Nic
Jack.....
Why would Nic retire?
He's on 800k just kicking back eating 10kgs of KFC a day...
3 years ago WC had the most players over 800k in the league, not much meat on the bone for others...
I hear WC supporters like yourself above speak of the youngsters coming through, every team has them, Collingwood, Bris, Melb, Syd have better youngsters coming through than WC and they are all in the PS window...
I would go so far as to say that WC have the least talent coming through of any club and they are already down the bottom...
I'm not trying ( too hard ) to knock your optimism but WC will be at the bottom end of the ladder for a lengthy stint this time around IMO....
Keeping in mimd Tassie is coming in so draft picks will be going there...
I'm very happy my club, the Hawks had a clear out ( and when they did ), knowing what is around the corner....
There is no point finishing middle of the road like so many do year in year out...
WC have 1 A grader ( debatable ) player under 25 in Allen who so far probably doesn't even deserve the A grade tag as he didn't play all last year so what has he really done but we'll give you the benefit of the doubt...
Shuey has always bugged me, as did Selwood, they changed the game for the worse, unfortunately for Ginnivan - now seems to be his fault in regard to head ducking knee dropping raising the arm free kicks which that pair building a career on ( even heard an umpire on SEN speak of the final in 2017 when Shuey won the game after encouraging a players arm to go high and dropping the knees ).... Anyway, Why would he play this season as captain knowing how the past few have gone for him?
Chesser out indef now also to add to the woes....

NicNat took a huge paycut
NicNat took a huge paycut after his last deal and is no where near $800k. If he retires it'll be due to not getting his body right.
Tassie are coming into the comp in 2027 so the 2026 draft will be compromised and we'll be well and truely back in the fold by then.
Fuck me dead, teams who spent long periods down the bottom or had access to a very generous academy have better youngsters coming through... whodathunk.
The retirements of Shuey, NicNat, Hurn and Gaff and Gov coming out of big contracts will allow us to go pretty hard at 1-2 free agents in the next 2-3 years whilst still drafting in young talent.

For anyone listening to the footy on the ABC today you might have also heard a stat that backs up what I'm saying....
Until last week it had been 68 weeks since WC had a rising star nomination, 68 weeks!! Previously the record was held by the Giants at 25 weeks...
Look at Melbourne, they've got some ripper youngsters coming through, as do Rich as do Geel.....
Yep you'll free up a shitload of cap space when you get rid of the blokes you mentioned but then you've got to find players that are willing to come...
Anyway we'll see what happens...

History has shown that we
History has shown that we bounce back very quickly and win flags after bottoming out. Did they mention that on ABC?

They mentioned the last time
They mentioned the last time you were on the bottom you bounced quickly, I guess it needs to happen more than once to claim it is an historical trait.
It's nice to be optimistic mate which clearly you are.
It could be Eagles and Hawks vying for 18th and picking up Reid with no 1....

Always glass half full Boon. After last week's carnage we'll be vying for the spoon this year and probably 12-18 next year.

Fuck Sicily is a
Fuck Sicily is a seagull,
Plays such unaccountable footy and rightly deserves the second worst captain tag in the league behind Shuey......
I hope Sicily fucks off to Freo where he belongs and can play bruise free footy and not get yelled at by his coach.....
Fuck the Cats, Fuckin Fuckers....
Jack my counter to your claim above is.... I think the comp is much tighter nowadays, look at even a shit team like the Saints this year, they get inspired with the Dali Lama Rosss the Big Bad Boy Lyon and anything can happen....
WC and its strong home ground advantage can certainly help with a few umpiring decisions and perhaps even a few wins but I think this rebuild could be a little longer....

Not being a betting man but with odds like that one would nearly be tempted.
