without doubt
Every other day of the week that was a 50m penalty. Marked, whistle blown, not one by 2 players run across the mark. There's not even any room to debate that. But they can't blame losing on that when they were 54 points ahead.

Geeeezus, 18 Mil 4 10 yrs @ the bombers, that was quite a headline to read this morning for Harley Reid.
WC will need deep pockets to keep this young fella beyond 26', as it looks like WC's need to be the No.1 team in WA at all costs and the WA media have elevated this kid to immortal status and pushed his price tag to the top echelon of today's standards.
Good luck building a good team around that % of salary cap investment.

I don't think we'll see Simpson coaching in 2025 but I don't think the club will sack him... it'll be a Woosha style retirement I think. Completely outcoached by Mitchell and player development for players like Ginbey has stagnated significanly.

Agreed
Agree he likely may not be there next year, but I doubt he'll go without a very public and humiliating sacking. He is clearly comfortab;le earning his $750K a year and losing. A shot of the coaches box in the last quarter yesterday when we had 1 inside 50 mark and 3 goals on the board and he's sittig there with a big smile on his face. The player clearly know they can put in any sort of rubbish performance and it doesn't metter, they still get paid and still play next week. The man clearly has zero self respect and even less for the supporters.
Strongest team we've had in a long time and that's what we see? not good enough. Witherden needs to be shown the door and replaced by switching Culley to a running defender, Duggan replaced by Clay Hall, or anyone really who doesn't kick 90% of the time directly to the oppostion and FFS can we stop playing 2 below average rucks, two shit players doesn't make a decent one. Just pick one and be done with it, the forward line has too many talls anyway so one of them can back up ruck. Only thing to look forward to this year is Hewitt comoing back and getting a few games under the belt. Best young player on the list IMO.

I was of the opinion that we didn't want to bring in a new coach just to have them in this position that Simmo is in now and that if we do keep Simmo it should be to see out rock bottom and allow a new coach to come in on an upward trajectory (not hard from the bottom) .... I thought he'd done that but not after what I've seen the past few weeks.

I tend to agree and disagree
I tend to agree and disagree with you and Carnarvonite. To pay out 2 seasons plus the soft cap penalties etc. is a lot of money despite how much cash the club has got (which I agree is a lot). If it was only money they would have done it but they key is getting through what was going to be a very tough season no matter who was coaching, plus you need to get someone better. A mate within the club is of the opinion that Simmo was hoping to get paid out last year, but that's only an opinion and he's no fan of the guy.
If they can get a good coach form 2025 onwards I think there's a big chance it'll happen. As a premiership coach Simmo deserves respect and dignity, but then again why be a coach?

100% agree
Look Simpson had to go, no 2 ways about it, but there are plenty of players who are no where near the mark. Darling, Witherden, Jones, Rotham, Gaff, Sheed, all need to not play again and bye bye at end of season. Brockman, Chesser worth goving the rest of the season to decide if they stay or go. Got to get games into Culley, who is dominating the WAFL most weeks in a losing side, Hewit once he's fit and Hall. Don;t rate Trew so don;t waste AFL exposure on him, had years now and shown nothingever. Rhett Basso once he's fit too as he looks a player of the future as does Jack Williams. Jury is out on Maric and Hutchison for me, Maric could become a good high half forwrd but both look more depth talent I think. Need to sort the ruck as it's woeful. Also need to consider selling one of Barrass, Allen or Waterman for some high end picks. Would be a hard call but we need a hell of a lot more young talent. Not sure what Duggan would bring in trade value but he's another I'd be happy to let go.
I'd preference Ash Hansen over Cox, but either would be good. Whoever ends up in charge, it's still a long way back to the top and some hard calls are going to be needed.

As I understand it, he was
As I understand it, he was told he wouldnt be coaching next year so opted to give them the bird (pun intended).
In saying that, i did think that after the melbourne game he would pull the pin. Someone needs to go and shout at the players, perticularly that flog JJ who just stood on the mark, without lifting his arms, as a Melbourne player kicked a goal.
I am certain that Simmo is a good guy and a very calm and collected leader which mutually minded people thrive with and others take advantage of.
I dont think that 2020, 21 or 22 were the coaches fault and 2023 was a result of bad list management and poor fitness. This year, I think the players just got too relaxed and ended up unhappy with with constantly failing without looking directly at themselves in the mirror. They also knew that there wasnt enough else in the squad to bump them out of the way so could just hop on the ride if they showed up and performed slightly better than the WAFL players.
I hope Simmo is somewhat involved in the game this week because I am sure he is well liked by the fans, regardless of the results.
Lastly, how shit is The West.
Imagine what they would do to an opposing person if they had a person on their books trying to get into politics...

Agree with you, I'd be asking what he's up to. I'd also be asking how much coin it would take to shoe horn Chris Scott out of Geelong. Very long shot but worth a phone call.
I also think a fair ampunt of the coaching issues sit below the head coach, so will be interesting to see what sort of a refresh they undertake at the Asst coach level.

I think they might stick
I think they might stick with the assistants at first. I'm pretty sure (but could easily be wrong) that getting rid of any by paying them out and then bringing in new ones will cost a lot in the luxury tax to the AFL for breaching the soft cap. Having said that the club has plenty of cash and I reckon they'd happily part with some to get a more competitive team.

The end of football
the 3 week suspensions to Charlie Cameron and Toby Bedford this week are the end of football as we've known it. In the same week a deliberate elbow to the head off the ball (albeit a soft one) only gets a week.
The match review panel needs to be replaced entirely.

Agreed!
While I personally didn't see anything wrong with the Cameron tackle, under the tribunal guidelines for what constitues a dangerous tackle in order for it to be a reportable offence for "rough conduct", I thought it was going to be hard for him to get off.
Beford on the other hand..... I really thought his appeal would be succesful. It was a rundown tackle from behind and a single motion where he essentially just dragged the player to ground. Jeff Gleesons comment that "a reasonable player in bedfords circumstances would have realised that by leaping at Taranto in the way he did from behind was likely to drive him into the ground" is absolutely ridiculous IMO!
I'd definitley be taking the Bedford tackle to the appeals board!

Bit far fetched but imagine it's the Prelim, you've been in and out of the side and in the dying moments you need to make a lunging tackle to stop a running shot on goal. Do you tackle and hope you don't get suspended for the GF or just try put a hand on him and hope he misses?
Either way you risk getting suspended, missing the GF because he kicked it or risk getting dropped.
