barrel knot
the barrel knot is good for joining same size braid or nylon,Turns depends on line thickness.I join nylon to braid with a figure 8 in the nylon then feed the braid in the figure 8 and do half a barrel knot in the braid .Is small and goes through the guides easy and has never let me down the nylon knot on the terminal tackle will give first
just do it.

Bimini to bimini
I cats paw the two ends via Bimini twists.
Never had one fail.

Stitching the two lines
Stitching the two lines together also works well. Leave a long tag end on main line and stitch the end of the additional line through the main line towards the reel, then stitch the tag end of main line up through the additional line. Don't skimp on the stitches, at least 50 each direction. Not something I'd do on a boat, but it provides the smoothest possible join, and sacrifices little if any line strength.
