Bunbury Fishing
G'day Razor back - we've been having a particularly lean time fishing offshore at the moment, of course some of it comes down to luck - but some of it doesn't - the Demersal Gillnetters have been smashing the fish stocks around Bunbury in the last month - you only need to go down to the service jetty and have a look at what comes off their boats - fish don't get a choice with nets full stop. You only have to look at how good the fishing has become from south of Mandurah through to Lancelin over the last 5 years since gillnets were banned by Jon Ford in 2007 & thats with MORE recfishers than ever fishing - it's about time Norman Moore stepped up to the plate and extend that zone further south than 33deg. at least for a reasonable distance offshore lets say 20nm. then we may have something to report about to help you with.

As Perry stated
the fishing off Bunbury is hit and miss due to the hammernig the Demersal Gillnetters give the area from Cape Naturaliste Nth to the latitude 33.00.000 put in place by Jon Ford.
This has been a bonus for the guys in the metro area and good luck to them for having such great fishing, but the big question is "What about us".
Suggestion, BAN Gill Netting altogether from the latitude 33.00.000 on a line at longitude 115.00.00 sth to Cape Naturaliste and then watch the mecca that is in the metro area spread down sth.
Flinders Bay must be closed to Gill netting as well.

Check your charts mate,and
Check your charts mate, and prospect the 30 mtr line, both north and south. Having said that we picked up a couple of hooter Dhu last week in 37mtrs. Have to agree with the other 2 comments tho, the sooner they piss the gill nets of the better, fish taste better when caught on hooks rather than left to hang dead in a net until retrieved. Mark out a prospect area before you head out and spend the day searching that area and sound on your way there , take a diff track home whilst sounding. I have found some great spots doing it that way in so called barren ground. They arent huge ledges or drop offs but maybe a mtr rise etc, i think a lot of the ground out from Bunno is caves with the rise only showing around a mtr on the sounder. Hope that helps.
