Not bloody wrong there Brucesta

Mon, 2011-05-16 14:48

And the whoppers I have caught and seen. Biggest so far up north is 1.1kg at learmonth jetty. No way was that coming up, had to drag it to the sand area.

That spot between Enderby and West Lewis was very productive, and I dont mind sharing squidding spots, because they are not a territorial creature. They just keep coming.

Easily caught our feed and baits worth last time, and could have easily done the limit, but then what for. About 10 big ones is enough for bait and a great feed, then excuse to go again.

Agree it is very under-rated here.

Karratha ?? You might have trouble getting to the weighin site by 11.30 am tho,lol

Dampier,Busselton and Albany have been mentioned by one of the organisers as future locations,,it would be nice to get a squid tournament scene going in W.A with three state wide locations and the Grand final in Perth,,if the big tackle stores combine to get something happening or major sponsors it could be a goer,,

I wish the weighin was closer to 12,,11.30 can be pushing it if you have to travel a bit to get the bigguns like in a kayak or travelling landbased,,

video conference the results in? the squidding up here is underrated for sure. biggest we got last year was 1.2kgs and i dropped one at a easy 1.5kgs due to no net onboard. obviously visitors are too interested in red fish and macks

An online comp section could be the go,,i am in two squids comps this weekend from two other forums,,the idea is to get a code the night before and put the code next to your brag mat and take a photo ,,measuring the squids tube lenght etc,,would be an idea for our country squidders state wide.

It's judged by weight.

Total weight of a bag of 5 for land based and kayak, 10 for boat. Also seperate prize for biggest single squid in each category.

For boat fishos keep an eye

Mon, 2011-05-16 11:59

For boat fishos keep an eye out for the rules, i think last year you were required to have a kill switch fitted and before that there was a thing about having your boat insured, i can't recall exactly what last times rules are but its to cover liabilty problems etc, so keep an eye on this thread,,

Good luck everyone,

You're going to need it - most of the sound is absolute SOUP! Murphys law having a one in 10 year storm just before a comp. I don't think the LB guys will fare too well tomorrow, as pretty much the whole coast between south mole, to past the ship yards are dirty as. It took 2 seconds for a 3 gram jig to disappear completely out of view, and I didn't get a sniff at any of my usual haunts.

The harbours all looked ok though, and I saw some LB guy pull in a goodun near free yacht club. I pulled a few good arrow squid from GI today too, which was a first for me in the sound.

Arrow squid is interesting,,i saw it mentioned before but i thought he was way out no way would we get Arrows in the comp zone,,might be some big bags weighin, i think the rules are squid no cuttlefish so arrows might be fine,,

For those that are not aware the Breaden guys from Japan beat all comers (50 or so other boats) rumours that they won useing handlines and kmart jigs would be incorrect

Was a good comp again, and it just gets bigger and better each year. We came 4th in the boating division, which wasn't a bad effort considering everyone above us were pros. Might look at doing LB next year to change it up a bit.

Didnt really like how it was regulated to be honest, awesome event but too easy to cheat especially landbased getting passed squid from people who failed boat session but my mate did win top prize so was good to see at least i know he was 100% landbased not passed squid.

Mon, 2011-06-27 08:14

And 2nd place was won by a mate of mine and i know he is 100% legit , actually squids twice a day a few times a week when he is not bream fishing.

If theres any proof the boat and landbased persons involved need to get a life ban from the Classic, its important to keep it as honest as we possibly can.

Mon, 2011-06-27 12:16

It was good fun, but we had to dash off with a crook deckie, but not seasick it turned out. We only got half a dozen in the couple hours we fished, but dealing with someone vomiting next to you while trying to fish is not my strong suit.

When I heard some boats picked up 40's and 50's I couldn't believe it, but it was my very first time fishing in the sound. I am pretty sure I saw the "most inked" winner at the ramp, he was absolutley covered.

Thu, 2011-06-30 11:53

Dannos in Bali ,Flangies got called into work etc, all the kayakers found it tough going trying to raise some decent squid, winner got near 3kgs for his 5 tho,,Landbased winners were 1.8 kg for 5

I would like to see some official results posted up if possible, everyone likes to see where they came in the comp,,we always got the results the next day usually but last time we had to wait 3 months before i saw them,,

I have put some photos up on Squidfish.net if anybodys interested.

I find its the bream tournament guys that can do well in this event,,WAFM Ian Sewell and Dror got 1st last year in the boats and 2nd this year,W.A Bream angler of the year 3 times is Szarn Tink,,he came 2nd this time,3rd before that and 1st before that(landbased) and theres a host of other bream fishers that get top results, just a snippet i thought was interesting.
