Cockburn boat tow on saturday

Had to tow some very lucky guys into CPBA on Saturday afternoon.

Their transom had given way out the back of garden island and the outboard had fallen into the water about halfway up the cover.

We picked them up about 200m from the CPBA rockwall and towed them to the ramps. Have to give them credit on their rigging skills to hold the outboard to the boat for that distance.

If you read this then i hope you managed to get it out of the water without loosing the motor because it didnt look promosing at the time.

Heard on the radio there were quite a few calls for assistance over the weekend, including running out of fuel. Now surely most boat owners / users can calculate how much fuel they have v how much they are using. Well done on playing your part.

Yep -alot of dickheads not following the rules at

Mindarie ramps on the weekend as well - don't seem to be able to read a sign. Ive decided that if a boat comes in to retrieve in the "LAUNCH ONLY" lane - im launching anyway - I got threatened with violence once (me on my own versus 3 dickheads on one boat)in the past for following the rules and I just dont give a shit how big and bad you are anymore theres CCTV coverage down there from memory if anything happens anyway

Whitfords Sea Rescue

Although it was busy on the water we only had 3 rescues. The main one was the capsize of Hillarys boat harbour. We had 3 confirmed flare sightings at about 8.15am. When we got out there found avessel capsized with 2 people in the water. We retreived both and one was suffering severe hypothermia. Was rushed back to HBH for an ambulance. All ok in the end.

I believe Fremantle were busy with at least a dozen rescues over the weekend.

Sea rescue

Tue, 2016-10-25 14:13

These guys said they didnt call sea rescue because they didnt want to pay the $1000 call out fee? I thought that if you required sea rescue then all you had to do was make a donation to them?

Regardless, $1000 is not worth risking loosing your motor and drifiting until someone finds you.

Correct. Sea Rescue groups do not have any type of fee for a rescue. They will though ask you to concider a donation to help their group to continue they service they provide.

distinction

True, no charge, however its also important to note the difference between a "rescue" and "salvage/tow".
In fact loosely speaking, it is illegal for someone to charge a fee to save your life, especially before actually saving you

Everyone including Sea Rescue etc is OBLIGED to help rescue you in trouble if in a position to do so, if it doesnt endanger them, however no-one is obliged to tow or save your boat if they dont want to.

And VMR wont either if they have somewhere else important to go

 Thanks for clarifying that

Thanks for clarifying that Rob, I had a debate with a mate about exactly that. I was right, sea rescue is only obliged if it doesn't endanger them.
