Yep, both sounds are closed 1-10-13 till 2-1-14 open

But this is for pinks only, you can still try for a dhu in the sound if you like

No, no catch and release

No, no catch and release unless you are part of the tagging program and have approval from fisheries.

Here is a link to the limits on both sounds

until the demersal ban kicks

Tue, 2013-09-17 11:05

until the demersal ban kicks in a couple of weeks later...

so many bans but i think its a good thing on the whole as it allows me to get some brownie points back with the mrs and kids. and to a lesser extent is probably better for the fish as well

I suppose the ban gives

I suppose the ban gives people the opportunity to Service the boat and undertake projects like respraying and fitting out

Would be interested to know if marine places increase or decrease in business during those two months

During the ban

Tue, 2013-09-17 11:23

During the ban we usualy Troll around and mark new ground to try later on. Also target Sand and KG Whiting along with the big Flatties that hang in the same areas. There is still plenty of options other than Demersals .

Sambos are Pelagic and not

Tue, 2013-09-17 11:35

Sambos are Pelagic and not included in the ban
You can catch, release or keep them

But if you sit on a place like the D9 don't be surprised by frequent visits from fisheries ;)

 you can expect visits

Tue, 2013-09-17 12:22

you can expect visits anywhere in the sound if you're anchored up and look like youre fishing with anything heavier than 15lb gear

Yeah I've had a few visits

Yeah I've had a few visits now
They're fairly polite though and don't try to jump in the boat.

Just open the eski, show the RBFL & RST and they're on their way

thanks

exactly what i was after gents, clearly no sportfishing allowed.

poses the question. why wouldnt they get more people on board the tag and release program? surely enough anglers these days are aware of how important the fishery is and would love to participate in supporting research for our own benefit
