Cuttlefish

I hooked three cuttle fish today & let them all go. I've never bothered with them as they always seem like too much trouble, spraying water & ink everywhere. However I'm interesteed in others opinions. Are they good to eat or to use as bait. If for eating - do you prepare same as squid?

good bait, got quite a few good fish on one last week. , one looked me in the eye i swear and sprayed me in the face! , chopped him up after that.
Ive eaten a few and they are good but have a distinct cuttlefish taste (FUNNY THAT!) still prefer squid

I think they're delicious
I think they're delicious and would definitely have a feed if I caught another one. As above, they make excellent bait. Eat the hood and use the legs for bait.

Yum, lovely flavoured flesh.
Yum, lovely flavoured flesh. It's just a bit hard to knife them sometimes when their looking back at you saying " come on man, do you really have to do that"

Lots better
They are lots better to eat than squid, easier to clean plus one of the better baits around for the head and tentacles.
If you have a mincer then run the tentacles through it and make patties with them.
Do not over cook or it will turn to rubber like squid does.

As people have said, they are great eating and really good bait as well. I usually just chuck them in the slurry to knock them off. To clean them, I usaully just slice open the back to start and remove the shell. From there, the rest is easy like squid. Cut the hard nodules out of the steak and slice the rest into strips. Great crumbed and in stir fries. You can also create a pocket in the meat as the steak is quite thick, and stuff with your favourite filling (minced garlic prawn and herbs or crushed pistachios and honey etc.) and fry in the pan.

Shit that sounds delicious.
Shit that sounds delicious. I wouldn't have ever thought of creating a pocket and stuffing it but i'll definitely be trying that. Top idea :)
