For discussion - not fishing but footy
This is in addition to the regular footy thread this week.
And i like to think this will be kept respectful.
Pav is one game away from his 350th game and not much further awsy from his last.
Until a couple of years ago i considered Glen Jackovich to be the greatest WA based player to have pulled on the boots in the VFL / AFL.
Now Pav has played about 60 - 70 more games than Jacko, but he retires without one, let alone the two premierships that Jacko has.
Pav has 6 All Australian jumpers, as a defender, midfielder and foward and kicked nearly 700 goals (despite playing his early days in defence and midfield).
Interested to hear everyone's respectful thoughts on who they believe to be the greatest WA based player, or indeed the greatest WA player (not necessarily based in WA).
Go.

Pavlich is rightfully so
Pavlich is rightfully so going to go into the history books as a legend of the game and proof that Western Australian based players can pass 300 games.
Had he not turned into a dickhead I would say Benny Cousins though think Matera was a legend.

I think Pav is a more complete player
than Jacko was. I would also put Ross Glendinning right up there as one of the best players to come out of WA imho

You know I despise all things
You know I despise all things Freo Randall but the big Pav is one player I just cannot dislike and he will retire a champion of the game and will achieve legend status no worries. The only knock on the big Pav was his ability to kick clutch goals and he just couldn't get away from that goal post. I am still in awe of the the he tore West Coast apart 2 or 3 seasons ago in one of the best single player performances I have seen with my own two eyes.
Now in regard to the best WA based player I can only comment on who I've seen and as a mid I am biased towards them but you will never see a player with as much impact as Chris Judd in WCE colours closely followed by Pater Matera off a wing but Juddy in his prime at West Coast (which started when he was still very young) was pure jaw dropping. Nat Fyfe is a pure freak and in a season or two will rightly take his place on the mantle with those two players if his body holds up.
If you ask my Dad he's say Billy Walker (4 Sandovers and 5 B&F at the Mighty Black Ducks) and my Pop would tell you that if John Todd didn't go down with his knee then we'd not only be talking about the greatest in WA but also the best player that's ever played the game.
My answer is Chris Judd even if he did break my heart and leave me in a sobbing mess that fateful day.

Judd was awesome. Never
Judd was awesome. Never looked at him the same way after the chicken wing tackle on the north player though.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Stephen Michael, simply the best footballer produced in this state who didn't go anywhere else, I also had the pleasure to play alongside this great footballer.

Benny despite his errant
Benny despite his errant ways was the best player in my books . Should’ve held off and become a docker we would’ve managed him better . Judd would be the best imported WA player though .

Spot on Chris - my thoughts exactly
except the part about benny being a Docker . I dont think the comps seen a better CHF than Carey in the modern game, so speaks volumes about Jacko. It's been said many times before - but i think Pav has been a bit underated at times (on the east coast) - he has proven himsef many times.
And - lets not forget Tom Swift

Injury sure has robbed us of
Injury sure has robbed us of seeing some of the best footballers in history. Imagine they could have fixed John Todd's knee or helped Tom 'Swift' with his torn heart muscles.
