Dive Computers

Im looking at buying a wrist mounted dive computer. I have had a look at a few suunto computers but dont know alot about them. What does everyone use and can anyone recomend anything. Not to bothered about metal bands and it looking flash as i dont want to wear it as a watch.

G'day Andy I’ve been

G'day Andy

I’ve been diving with a Suunto wrist computer for a several years now.  This allows the freedom of tank diving and also hookah diving for me.  The Gekko is probably todays equivalent model and under $500.

If only doing tank diving, I'd probably stick with a console type - out of the way and not as easy to leave behind or loose.

You can also change your own batteries (which probably applies to most brands these days anyway)

Cheers Pete

If you really want a wrist

If you really want a wrist mount they are good. Suunto is a go and then you can download your info after your dives.
I use a uwatec smartcom console, but you can get it in a wristmount.console easy disconnects to dowmload info too. I got the console for other features and to point to when instructing students and alot of people forget there wrist mounts but just attatch it to your mask if you take it off, thats what I always taught and it works.

Look for the features you want to know after your dive.
things like, dive start and end time, duration. If there linked tou tour tank they have remaining air time depending on depth and breathing pattern, features go on for ever, the last one is excellent, but it all comes down to money.

suunto

Go the watch is all I can say mate.

I have the suunto stinger and it is great. Wrist mount computers are too big and bulky for my liking and a pain as they get in the way and catch on things.

Have used all types of computers both gauge mounted, wrist mounted and they both annoyed me. However with the watch it doesnt matter where you are or what gear you are using you will always have a computer on you.

Hope this helps
Cheers

I've got a Uwatec Aladin Prime, $649 rrp Wrist watch (rubberband) and its great. The Uwatec technology is very modern and advanced with some other models today being older technology but still good no doubt.

Lee from Perth Scuba sold me mine, he'll do a better price also (Ph 08 9455 4448)

After having a look at a few I think I think i will go for watch, not too keen on having something big. I had a look at the suunto stinger it looks good also a citizen promaster for around the same dollars. Have yous ever used or heard any reports on citizen. They both have the PC interphase.

Ive also got a promaster, wear it aswell . good dive logger. and the interface is good aswell. but mainly tells basic info start finish time, max + ave depth and temps.

The suunto 's work as a computer in the way of deco time aswell and in watch ish size, I have had a stinger before at the same time. just someone decided they needed it more than me at the time. depends on how much diving you do i suppose.
