I haven’t read the proposal yet do they say how they intend to bring in the gps Epirb such as when your current epirb expires you get the gps epirb or is your non gps fitted epirb no longer acceptable

Suggestion that it is no
Suggestion that it is no longer mandatory rather a recommendation based on the skippers opinion to carry an anchor is an odd one.
Having seen people anchored in the entrance to Woodman's Point due to engine failure makes me know that they are a good idea.
Cheaper than rubbing against the rock wall waiting for a tow.
still trying

Imagine not having an anchor
Imagine not having an anchor and fishing inside the 3 Mile either side of Little island with a stiff easterly blowing and your engine won't start. Goodnight Irene.

I've literally seen that, first time I ever fished out there. 3 young clowns not far from us couldn't start their 1940's Chrysler lol had to tow em in. They were shitting bricks when they realsied the deep shit they were about to find themselves in.

Flares
Happy they’re looking at changing the requirement for expensive 3yr flares to include the option of an E-Flare/beacon. Makes more sense with new tech available. Safer to use, last longer in an emergency and similar price for 10yr battery life. Less chance of sea rescue starting bush fires during flare demonstrations as well!

Double post sorry.
You’d hope most skippers would carry an anchor even if not required.

Dot are pretty much putting
Dot are pretty much putting the responsability back on the skipper and covering their own arses from getting sued due to grey areas that a lawyer will find. A couple of obvious good changes but thats about all.

Yep pure arse covering, just like JSA's and WMS's in the work place. My main client asked me to sign a waver of subrogation, which literally relieves them of blame if some tard in their yard runs me over with a forklift. I refused to sign it.

Warning
Be careful for what you wish for !
It will affect all of us .
Think before you start checking boxes.
Their not asking ,their giving you a choice.
There is no safety/rescue equipment on the planet that will prevent stupidity/dumb decision making.
Look at all the accidents that have occurred in the past, speeding at night, over loading a boat, alcohol.
Tread lightly it will COST YOU !
NO ANCHOR ! WHAT!!
