Exmouth - 6July

Greetings friends,

I've been referred to this site by till, who suggested that I let folks know that I'm not far from heading up to Exmouth for a break, and a spot of fishing (It'd be silly to post this up here if I was just up there for something else, right?).

I thought if anyone happened to be up that way, it may be fun to meet up - I'll be staying at the Lighthouse Caravan Park, and will have the dear wife and three kids in tow.

As I'm boatless, I'm planning a bit of beach fishing action.  I'm no pro fisherman by any measure, but am always happy to learn new things, and don't mind a yarn over an ale.

I look forward to hearing from you if any of the above sparks an interest.

Cheers,

DaveO.

As you're staying at

As you're staying at lighthouse, if you go out the front and straight to the beach and look South, you can see another carpark and some rails. I think people get baldies and bluebone down there on fresh crabs.

If you have a bit of a fish through the site you can probably turn up some other land-based tips, like yardie and learmonth jetty.

Anyone else from the site going to be up there then?

I think Till is talking about the point at the top of these pics.

familiar hat

Yes, that hat does look familiar!  Till sent me a bunch of 'jealous making' pics - him and some fishies.  I hope to do the same when I return!

Ahh that hat is no longer with us sadly. I'll have to find another one without the branding.

I'll be thirty nautical mile away at Long Island with room for a crewy but I'm not sure if DaveO could swim that far Till.

Yeah Jay, Uncle and I are hoping for a fortnight of glass, but we'll have to see what the weather gods say about such matters.

Probably worth the swim for a trout like the one in your avatar.

Glad I've been training

Thu, 2009-07-02 11:37

Though I've been in the pool training, I'm still stuck at the 40 laps mark, so 30 miles may be a stretch for the old lungs.  Thanks for the thought though big john!

As I've recently shaved my head, I'll give the carpark a whirl - a baldie for a baldie?

Wilco re the site trawl.

40 laps? Only if the wind and current were running that way for me.

had a great time

Wed, 2009-07-22 12:58

Have safely returned from the holiday, and all was well up there, except that the day I'd booked my charter was the windiest day we'd been there, so it was cancelled Cry  It serves me right for waiting so long I guess (and yes, the morning we left was a perfect day...).

I'm planning to quit work so I can move up there permanently.  I'll need to improve my tactics though, as the only thing I caught were Charlie Courts, and them only early in the piece(and before I learnt that they were an eating fish).

From the looks of other posts, other good folks did well.

Oh well, at least you got a holiday in there =)

I think thats a good warning though about the charter, go as early as you can, in case you have to reschedule.
