Furuno service next to none

Had some dramas the other morning with the furuno sounder gps. Got six mile out and sounder wouldn't work so I gave Rhys a call from tailor marine. Over the next few hours and six phone calls  from Rhys the problem was solved. Now I didn't buy this sounder through Tailor marine but got it second hand off family, but  there was no questions asked. He went out of his way, [as Im sure he is very busy] and talked me through a few things with the sounder.

Now in my mind buying local and paying the bit extra is well worth it. With back up, friendly service, I was back out fishing that arvo and sounder was working at its best.

I had a lowrance before the furuno and got it from the states. When it stopped working I was told by our local dealer they would not look at it and to send it back to the states. So for all you guys trying to save the pennies and getting stuff from the states or cheap web sites, there is no one to get you back on the water if things stop working. THANKS Rhys awesome service mate..

you were back out that arvo. How did you go?

We did it tough that morning after seeing you at the ramp with the wind and the fish were shut down on a lot of our ground. We managed to get a couple of snapper and a big 58cm kg.

Mon, 2011-08-22 16:17

Rhys for all his dodgy earrngs and high heeled shoes,  he is a top bloke and second to none on sounder set up.

Yip Paul, he is always helpful and full of wisdom when it comes to fishy things

Can't wait for my "new toy" to be installed by them in the week.

ps for all those that thought it's worth saving $200 buying overseas, you lost out on the million dollar service our local boys give you...

cheers

Me too Paul

It all sounds good getting everything on the cheap from O/S.

But soon the bigger picture might catch up to the land of milk and honey.

We have been in a good state with the help of China etc keeping the economy nicely ticking over when compared to the rest of the world.

But sending our hard earned $$$ O/S might soon burst the bubble.

Retail stores are doing it tough with the competition from Netsales and it worries me a little about what it might lead to. I certainly would be happier paying a little extra buying Australian or from an Australian to avoid the eventual possible problem. As soon as things go to sh!!te its always Taxes that go up.

Now I am no economist etc (far from it) and certainly also have bought O/S. (Cant see why I should pay $250 for a pair of Timberland deck shoes when I can get 4 from the States for the same all shipped etc).

This and there must be others is just a blatant Rip Off, and double or triple cost mean even the treasurer would buy O/S.

But all this talk off getting fishing gear/sounders/boats etc O/S at a reduced $$$ makes me feel for Ros, RyanThip, Dave (Xtreme) etc that just have to battle on.

I do worry about the long term impact, and would hate to have to eventually hang on the line for hrs, speaking to a Indian voice, trying to get a problem with my O/S bought "X" fixed.

I would rather walk into a shop, say Hi to the chaps, pay a little extra and keep it in Oz. Now if it was 4 pairs of shoes or 1, it a no brainer.

The only thing you seem to forget is I have paid tax on every dollar i have earnt how I spend that dollar is my choice I don't feel that I nead to justify how I spend it you guys are talking a few hundred dollars and I go along with that but when it 2000$ it a different story and I get just as good a service from overseas

All I want to do

Tue, 2011-08-23 21:23

is look after OUR backdoor.

Not some Yank getting the profits etc.

I have nothing against them, but I came to this country and I WILL defend it.

I am just worried that all our hard earned cash seem to be disappearing OS, because we are all trying to save a few $$ here and there.

IMO we have to somehow support the local dude who is trying to help us.

As I said JMHO.

In the interests of transparency: I paid $300 for a new Lowrance GPS/DF Sounder combo (LMS335C if I remember correctly). Bloody BCF too.

Can the fishing clergy absolve me of this transgression ?

PS: In hindsight it might have saved me a bit of time to have gone to a decent company/someone show me how to use the frigging thing. Definately worth another 50-100 bucks, maybe more. However when I looked at this unit elsewhere, at the time, folks where trying to charge $900-$1000. Couldn't justify it even installed for that price.

Putting a $2-3K sounder/plotter on my $10K boat was never an option.

And all you have to do is ask how to use the thing. People on here try to help. And if I had one of them I would.

Just a point i was told the other day that customs is cracking down on under priced goods entering the country. If they find them to be invoiced under a reasonable price they can apparently make you pay the extra customs and taxes or seize your goods.

Not sure how true just reporting. 'The person also coudn't tell me if the value was a local or overseas value.

Its invoice price for the goods and shipping, otherwise how much would they charge you for goods the first time a certain good was imported and it had now previous local value ;)

When I used to import containers of stuff, the customs brokers took the currence down to like 4 decimal points at the exchange rate for the day the order was placed.

i do enjoy readying these debates from the sidelines.  keep the dollars here v's getting a better deal.

compelled to point out that most of the goods your are discussing are manufactured outside of australia.  a  % of the $$$'s you all argue about do land overseas despite where they are purchased from.

BTW bought some timberland shoes from Rays outdoors last year for $17 reduced from $180
